I won't be watching any games live during the day as I'm working. So only night games as there's only 1 hour time difference from where I am.

Yep, just the first two weeks. After that it gets less intense so catching on sleep isn't too bad while working.

I have been working too much during covid so I have 3.5 months of annual leave to use up!

Hell yes!
Enjoy brother - I am a very jealous man aha

I took two weeks of leave (as I normally do), so I'll hopefully watch every game for the tournament (except the game three double up's).

Barca, SBS yes showing all games :)
https://www.sbs.com.au/sport/fifa-world-cup-2022/article/how-to-watch-fifa-world-cup-2022-live-and-free-on-sbs/ytb92jxke
Optus had that prob and corrected very well compared to a recent US network we're having to deal with.
LUV Optus Sport ! and I'll be using it heaps coming up with all their good updates, minis and interviews etcetc.....
We have a huge positive SBS will have Mr Football Martin Tyler (obviously will focus alot on the 3Lions games but nonetheless great commentry BUT we also have to contend with Basheer :(  he'll be hosting our 3 games +
SBS have signed up a number of past players to provide insight throughout the tournament.

The following names have been locked in as talent:

  • Harry Kewell
  • John Aloisi
  • Craig Foster
  • Mark Bosnich
  • Sarah Walsh
  • Robbie Cornthwaite
  • Thomas Sorensen
  • Kyah Simon

Is every game on SBS this time around? I remember Optus Sport had the rights at the last World Cup in 2018 but we know they had problems broadcasting with their app.

As many as I can live but with likely a decent chunk of mini matches over breakfast/lunch for the "less interesting" games

+1 from me ...... Some of those 3am games will be brutal but eh this new mini match format on Optus will be a Godsend for some of the "others"

I will likely watch bit sand pieces of the 9pm games in the first week as well as the Australia games.

In week 2 it will be the second half of some of the 6am games, except for the night/morning of the Australia game.

I most likely won't watch much of the Round 16, barring any Australia games of course, then will try to watch as much as I can from the QF onwards.

yep, like I said earlier, the cream will bubble to the top, heat or not.
There will be some surprise's as always but the usual suspects and those close will prevail most.
Some unlikely may get through to the R16 that will be great to see but the Qrtrs most of the expected suspects will be there.

You would think so but looking it up Germany's average July temp is only 23 whilst August is 24.

In terms of a hot world cup, yes USA was pretty hot as was Japan/Korea. Funnily enough Brazil won both world cups.

Interesting. Hadn't clocked that re brazil as well!

I was hoping the same thing but if that is the general temperature prediction maybe that's not the case.

Wouldn't a fair few European world cups have weather that warm being played in July?

From memory USA 94 was a super hot world cup

Hey, no doubt there will be some boil overs, pardon the pun, what Cup doesn't.
In saying that they are fit/pampered rested up, been there a number of times, sure its humid outside but they'll be in the pools mostly or in the shade.
Game time sure some of the white euros (if I can say that) might, might run out of gas - 5subs will help.

look re the heat in aircon stadiums - has there been any info what temps will be set to ?
Obviously everyone needs to adjust to the diff time zone and overall climate but lets not forget many tour or played there over sometime.
Also how many Euro leagues start whilst they still have some higher than normal temps going into early autumn.
EPL first few games are warm as for them watching them as I do.
The other factor is - the cream always rise's to the top no matter the temp.
By the way having looked up some stadium temp info :
In a late September evening in Qatar a persistent 35 degree Celsius heat hung outside the 2022 World Cup host’s newly-built Al Janoub stadium, but down on the pitch the temperature was a cool 21 degrees.
“You’re living inside a micro, climate-controlled bubble,” said Saud Abdul-Ghani, a Qatar University mechanical engineering professor who led the design, as he waved a bright orange thermometer to demonstrate the roughly 14-degree drop.
Along the pitch dozens of soccer ball-sized nozzles blow out chilled air, while tiny angular ducts beneath the seats keep the stands at 24-26 degrees. Sensors around the stadium keep track of different zones and adjust the flow from a control room.

The problem players will have is not at the stadiums or their hotels. It will be when they aren't in air conditioning. While the temperature will not be excessive in the next month the humidity will still be high. So really if you are exposed to even early 30s temperatures with high humidity while you are training or even just moving around the city what effect is that having? I'm still expecting quite a few upsets.

I’m not sure how I’ll do it. If I watch the 9 pm match dunno if I’ll get up for the 6 am match. I’ll be relying on the mini matches a lot.

the teams I have interest in Australia/wales/England/Senegal

then I want Canada and a few of the underdogs to do well.

I'm mostly interested in seeing how the other AFC nations go. I actually have high hopes for Iran and I think they'll get out of their group. I also think Japan will be able to cause some trouble in their group.

Based on rankings it's the group of death but I don't think the US or Wales are as good as their ranking suggests.

I'm also one of those people that thinks that the middle east conditions are going to play a major role in the success of teams. Even if it's technically autumn the weather is still averaging around 30 and lows in the mid to high 20s. It won't properly cool down until December.  The AFC teams are going to have a major advantage.

I'll watch as many I can depending how sleep dependant I'll get.......9pm games are a given to watch, just depends which fixture I'm into re the midnight,3am6am ones.
johnszasz don't know how you think Mondays openning game is at all juicy.
Tuesday I'm keen on the Oranje Senegalese game.
See how the Argies look and play SA - same goes for the English vs Iran, looking forward to see how these NTs go compared to us playing them over the years.

6am Wednesday - I suppose I'll be watching :)

Ah wrong time zone. I don't mean the tournament opener. Qatar might surprise or get smashed. It'll be an interesting one.

Which games are you particularly interested in?

The opening Monday and Tuesday are juicy as hell. Japan Germany will be good.

I find the final two groups incredibly tight. Uruguay Portugal should be exciting.
