The league has been in rapid decline for several reasons, not least its inability to handle the pressures of COVID-19. TV numbers last season were abysmal.

Mostly, it can be attributed to the smothering of active supporter groups in the past few years. While the behaviour from some active fans was disgraceful, the measures sanitised the sport and killed the best thing going for it: the diverse, vibrant, loud, colourful and passionate fans who follow the game.

Mums and Dads won’t save the A-League but their TIFO-carrying, flare-wielding sons bouncing up and down on seats alongside other young men of similar disposition just might

100%.

The A-league survives because of males aged 16-26. This is what Gallop never understood.

the    Damage    was    done   following   the    australia    cup    final ,   which    received     widespread    Negative    media .

Little     articles   like     this    aren' t   changing    anyone's   mind .

It   will    be   business   as   usual   when   the   next  "incident "   occurs ... (just   like  the   news    report   after   the    derby )

A step in the right direction from the media should been considered a win for A league 👍 that game - even on tv - was just awesome to watch with the presence of large enthusiastic crowd

That doesn't sound like a very inclusive environment. I thought the whole premise behind the franchise league was to attract ALL of mainstream Australia???

It  is    interesting    how   the   article   still   refers   to   the  "ethnicity "   of    soccer    fans , " flare- wielding  sons " (and   no   mention   of   females) ,  broken    seats   etc

It   does    seem   that    the   goings on   at   the   australia   cup   final    have    really    set   the   image  of   the   game    back...  very   Disappointing

I dont think the "Bulls" PTY LTD are playing in the image used in the article Paulie.

Try again.
This is actually a good image for the struggling A-League.

I know a hell of a lot of codgers who go regularly. Also many families, although possibly the Central Coast demographic is a little different.

All true. Plenty of families go to games and make up a significant percentage of crowds.

I do feel though the enthusiasm and energy that large active support groups have can attract others to games as it forms part of the action along with what is happening on their field. It feels slightly dangerous at times and that is clearly exciting to many.
