Ryan to AZ Alkmaar official. Deal until June 2024

He's got the number 1 jersey. Doesn't always mean he'll be the starter, but a good sign nonetheless?

Fabrizio Romano reporting Kuol to Hearts is done with fill agreement in place. No announcement yet.

Way to many similarities with Arzani for my liking.

He's got the number 1 jersey. Doesn't always mean he'll be the starter, but a good sign nonetheless?

This from an Oranje site:
"Hobie Verhulst is currently the number-one goalkeeper at AZ, but his competition Peter Vindahl Jensen departed for FC Nurnberg. AZ needed a new goalkeeper and they now have that with the arrival of Ryan."
As usual Ryan will be on the bench.
He needs an Agent that gets him a number 1 position.

I've watched plenty of SPFL since Ange moved to Celtic and I have to say it's probably one of the worst leagues in Europe.

Celtic & Rangers had their asses handed to them in the UCL and they are lightyears ahead of the entire domestic league.

It's a shame that so many of our players are going there these days.

However, it is a shop window of sorts, and if they can get 1 season of regular football there and GTFO as quickly as possible, then I guess it isn't terrible. Stay there for too long though and you become stale bread.

I'm disappointed Kuol didn't go to the continent.

Agree with this. Baccus could be on the right track if he gets out of the SPFL this TW. if his playing slips or he gets an injury then he will be trapped in a league that is not viewed highly enough. I recall Boyle smashing the SPFL 12- 15 months ago and there were no suitors for his skill - which is considerable - from EU or UK. So he ended up, sure on good $, but in the Middle East.

The young Australians currently in the SPFL should not be getting too caught in the hype and be looking for a leap to a higher league in a strong European continent comp so they can really test themselves. IMO they should do this sooner rather than later. Kuol is lucky in that he is just on a loan, and is at least 5 years younger than the other Aussies. The other older 'young' guys are not 'young' by EU standards and if they are not careful, they will not reach their ceiling limit as layers simply by not staking themselves against higher competition levels soon. Some are turning 25 this year.

As mentioned above the chance of a UCL spot is there but most of the guys i am referring to above would be playing in the Europa League. This is the time they face higher level teams. I guess what i am saying is that these games are small in number whereas if they were already in a strong European League, they would have that level of competition weekly.

So, on that note - does anyone have any update on the Baccus situation?

The last I heard was he is being courted by Rangers which is a big shame because they are a shambles and Michael Beale is one coach you wouldn't really want to learn anything of value from (a complete nobody in football terms).

Regarding Kuol, even if he couldn't find a home at a decent continental league and team, The Championship would be far better home than the SPFL.

He certainly has moved around alot in the past few seasons.  It's actually quite telling that he either can't get a number one keeper spot nor hold onto it.

Thought he would be no 1. If he isn't its a poor move, especially if he goes up against a younger keeper.

Might be time to take it on the chin and realise he's not a no 1 anymore it happens to keepers all the time.

He could of went to United instead of Butland... Maty is good with his feet and Ten Haag would of liked that.

Rangers made the Europa final last year after beating Dortmund, RB Leipzig and only lost to Frankfurt on penalties ... but ok...

I don't think the aussie kids do well in foreign language countries unless they have a euro background... the kid was living with his mum a week ago and now you want him out alone, in a foreign country with no understanding of the local language or culture? and people wonder why our kids struggle to adapt? jesus christ.

Seems like his direct competition will be Mckay who hasnt been tht productive.

Kuol is 18yo, away from family and his support network for the first time. I think a club with 3 other Aussies including ex-teammates is ideal while he adjusts. It's also close to Newcastle and that support. It's important to think about that human element beyond just the football argument if you want him to succeed. I think it's a fantastic move.

Kruse was seeking and 18 month deal with the Roar after training with them but he turned it down. Insurance issues was one matter cited.

Be mad to sign him for that long. Insurance premium is probably too high, he's consistently injured.

Was a complete fluke. Means absolutely nothing. I have watched every derby since Ange arrived at Celtic and The 'Gers absolutely stink. Rangers also broke the record for the worst team in Champions League history less than 6 months after making the Europa League final.

Every kid has to leave Mum at a young age if he wants to make it in Europe. Fact.

Or don't care. The efforts put in by the clubs, on basically all matters, has been really pathetic.

That was the attitude in the EPL 25 years ago. The thinking was they're professionals on big money so get on with it. It wasn't recognised that these are people that needed to find houses, schools for kids, settle wives in, may not speak the language or not well, or in Kuols case his first time away from home. There were a lot of flops. Sir Alex and Manchester United recognised the need for support, gave the support and got better outcomes. It was one of the (many) reasons for their success. This is the same with Kuol and I think it's smart.

Facial expression from Atkinson in this photo says a lot IMO!

Not sure that Hearts would let him leave TBH. He is still on the bench so coach probably thinks he can do a job for Hearts but is just not first choice anymore. His contract is until 2025 and TM has 1 million price tag. Hearts would want a good price given his WC22 and socceroos status but his form is down ATM. i think he should stick it out and work his way back into form throughout the season.

Atkinson should move to a club where he is likely to be played in his best position I.e. not rb or rwb.

How many Japanese teenagers are making the move to Europe though? I could be wrong...but seems like the Japanse players making moves are well established in the J League and their national team first.

With Garang being so young i think its best to take the view of where he will be in 2026 when he'll be 22.
Going to hearts for a 6month loan is a sensible first step and hopefully gets some good minutes and adjusts on and off the pitch.
Next step hopefully will be championship or similar and continue to improve.
When 2026 comes around we want him playing each week at a good level.
After that the following WC 2030 he'll be going into his prime so plenty of time.

I understand the operative word is "teenagers" but is there really a load of difference between an 18 and 20 year old?
- Kubo (Barcelona at 20)
- Minamino (Salzburg at 20)
