deadset feels like watching the roos in the 07-09 period where you just expected to win against decent opposition. Equador were better at retaining possession but they didn't even look like scoring, yet we looked like we could have had half a dozen goals
how have we suddenly gotten decent at finishing?
kind of amazing how well we are doing when you think that these players play a much more modest leagues than 07. You just have to think that some of these young guys are going to have great club careers
What do people think of Robertson?

When you think of the players out and some not chosen the squad is coming together

Robbo seems to be more attacking with an eye for goal. Baccus was horrible. O’Neill is serviceable but nothing special. Mooy is so crucial to this team.

Robertson looked very good, even this was a friendly game he set up the 3rd goal with that composure to create that overload on the left was class. Looks like a good advanced playmaker similar to the mould of KDB in that respect I get the comparison. He needs a loan out if he's not going to get game time at Man City, because I think we can use him for the Asian cup squad with he's quality he brings.

Geez its refreshing to watch a Socceroos game and get excited with the amount of young on display and what's coming through as well, its been a long time coming.
Even the older players look inspired and played great out there, you can see what competition can do to a team when there is younger talent pushing you on and this is a great thing to have going forward.
The combinations were great as well as the pressing, the 3rd goal was fantastic football.
Great fun, looking forward to see the others who didnt play get more action on Tuesday too. (Well he's hoping anyway!)

Also with Aiden O'Neill and how he played I think we found our answer to the next No.6 for the national team, he was excellent not only on the ball but he was great defensively.
This was eye opening to see that he could slot straight into the team and play that well at this level.

Hope he gets some good games in europe....or even better stays here so we can watch him at home every week

Indeed, Craig Goodwin had an excellent World Cup, he’s an exciting player to watch, he had an excellent game against Ecuador tonight. What I can’t understand is how some big European club hasn’t signed him up.
And Duke was also very good tonight.

Just got back from Commbank stadium from the Socceroos V Ecuador game, good result against a decent South American team.
My only criticism of the Socceroos performance, was that there still too many silly turnovers in possession, but the counter attacks were very good.

We revenged Ecuador for Qatar. Qatar has been outplayed and beaten easily by this Ecuador side in the world cup.

+xSome pretty harsh comments on Mabil in here. He was fantastic for a player that hasn't been a regular starter for 3+ years. He needs consistent club football. I have no doubt if he played week in week out at club level he'd be one of our best players. I made comments about Mabil in the 20' something minute and honestly he was shit to that point. Tentative, poor runs, no urgency. He got a great opportunists goal, got confidence, then was really good. It was hardly a faultless performance though.

Really pleased with that performance. Couldn't watch live so watched replay. My ratings
Ryan 7: Not too much to do but had 4 significant moments when challenged. Degenek 6.5: Defensively sound in the second half. Still a band aid solution so Strain needs a go Souttar: 8 Immense in the air and on the ground. Great use from free kick on 73. Rowles: 7 Not too much to do. Lost man on set play on 39 that could've been vital. Great final 30. Behich: 6 Incredibly average until he finally got the assist for Kuol.
O'Neil: 9 An excellent debut. Was everywhere. Bossed and districted and didn't look fazed at all. Baccus: 8 He was so industrious. The ground he covered kept moving the opponent around. On the floor numerous times due to commitment. Irvine: 9 Very clever display. Looks much more at home in an advanced role. Led from the front today.
Mabil: 7.5 Concerning ball losses at start but finally clicked after goal and then made the wing his own. Duke 7.5: Excellent link up play and ran back into midfield to receive the ball and distribute numerous times. Goodwin 7: Pretty easy day at office. Great vision and set plays.
Robertson looked lost but then finally got more involved. Borrello looks a great addition up top when the opponent is tiring. So happy for Kuol. We've got such a good production line now.

Thought I read an article about how he's resisted a move to Europe because he wants to keep his family in Adelaide. Makes sense, otherwise there's no way he'd stay in our league.

We're basically a team with outstanding timing and coordination in our off the ball work, and one which is really quite mediocre when we have time on it. We finish like a team of Gerd Mullers though.

Watching a replay for the first tie instead of live I was able to view it with a lot of pausing and rewinding. Took a lot of notes. O'Neill was just immense. He won so many duels, distributed smartly and quickly and often went forward instead of the constant back passing. The way he went around his territory prevented Ecuador from ever breaking on the ball in the middle.
What is it with solid debuts? Thwaite vs Jamaica, Dellbridge vs NZ, Jurman, Rowles in the playoffs, O'Neill tonight.
We turned it over here and there as did Ecuador. I think we played a very good line to catch them offside numerous times. The early stages saw a few annoying rushed transitions up top. The early press was great with a front 4 preventing Ecuador from doing much. Also the first half saw Irvine and Baccus up top a lot making their defence have to shuffle around which created space.
Degenek was generally fine. Not useful for attack. Strain should get a go in the next one. Behich had a very ordinary game.

I find it interesting we do well against better teams. Why? because the don't park the bus and allow us to have more space and move with the ball. These static Asia away days are painful and although we and the big nations normally end up winning, you might get 5 or 6 chances all game due to the lack of space.
I watched Kazakhstan Slovenia last night and it was spitting image of Asia away. Slovenia won 2:1 but Kazakhstan were so dogged and deep. It's actually ways the case when the Europeans go East.

both are great I think Goodwin had a few J-league and European offers but he said he was happy to stay at Adelaide United for the rest of his career honestly speaking i reckon Goodwin is probably good enough to play anywhere in the world - but he isnt young and he probably has roots set up at home - tbh it is a good thing he stays in the AL [good for the AL] i dont really know where this has all come from we all of a sudden look 'decent-to-good' again Ecuador are no bums they are a solid side - i think Harry Souter has made out defend a lot more stable I think credit needs to be given to the AL it is now at a level where the top players are as good as most other places we just need to continue to produce talent - for the AL itself if it can prove the level is good enough for the top leagues consistently, it then needs to do is capitalise on big transfers but the FA needs to get the league structure better before that happens. players like Kuol could be going to Europe for 20-30m opposed to 1m it could essentially financially become a way more viable league then NRL or the AFL if that happens investors will want to jump on the AL wagon and it would mean more clubs and more media etc

+xCredit to Arnie. He had built an incredible vibe within that team. For sure.Players like Duke,Goodwin and Irvine have flourished under his tutelage and he is slowly introducing the youngsters into the squad so that they get the vibe. Also it was great to see Big Harry come over and protect Robertson when he became involved in some argy bargy with the Ecuadorians. It shows that team mates care for each other.

My partner is South American so I know lots of South Americans both here and abroad. Tbh they are always super respectful about Australia football wise and I reckon a little bit in awe that a country that hardly plays football can give their countries a run for their money who live and breath it, especially in those big big matches - Argentina 94, Uruguay, Peru and argies in final etc
Last night was one game but if we play like that consistently and do it on the big stage - the future is bright as hell.
