The reason this team attracts many foreign stars is the rise of international football, with tournaments slope such as the World Cup and Champions League gaining increasing interest around the world.

agreed butler99 but the problem is just that in the big picture, what if our system was as it should be like rest of the world and more clubs playing at the higher level instead of just 12 say 16 with a distant NPL for so so long and no connect........
Hey all power to Stoko jumping the system having contacts is what its all about after all but this example is so so few and far between as we know.
Yes its not the systems fault here BUT its blatantly obvious we do have alot of holes in ours and restraints just as all night Dwight quoted the other day.

Booney correct, its a global game with manymany mixed nationalities especially here, what goes around comes around instead of being an alarmist like roosty and abusing other posters.
Dead set - doesn't it spell how much better we need to be, one spotting, developing and finding places for these kids to play regularly who could end up good players for us instead of allowing the easy choice going elsewhere abroad.

Maybe Arnie isnt looking locally?

"Josip, his father and former Socceroo great, simply packed up the family and headed for Croatia. Within 3 weeks, Noa was selected for the Croatian U/17 National Team – and we all know the quality of players coming through this system - arguably the best and most concentrated talent pool in the world.. Now playing for the Hajduk Split U/19 team - who beat Manchester City in the Champions League – he is a player who is probably now lost to Australia."

Rusty you should read this one cobber ..... make sure your sitting down first :P

Yeah.
I get the gist of the article.

But this has more to do with Josip Skoko and his links to Hajduk Split, than something wrong with the Aussie system.
For the record Josip bypassed the NSL as well and went directly overseas. He wasn't one of the Geelong boys that played for Melbourne Knights.
Did his AIS stint, few games for North Geelong and then overseas.

I'm all for criticising the Aussie system when it deserves it, but I don't think this is that occasion.

All the more reason why we shouldn't allow Croatian FA to spy on and poach our players. All the  more reason...

It basically just confirm what I said in the previous thread, that Croatian FA don't come here to "expand foreign relations", "engage in culture footballing exchange" and other such platitudes, they are here to steal our young players.

As for young Noa, he was chosen for A league academies but declined because it would have been an awful 1h drive, and so made the far more logical choice of travelling 24 hours by plan to relocate to another country. Makes sense..

So the fact that we now have an Australian born, produced players who was identified and poached by Croatian FA validates EVERYTHING I said in the previous post, especially to that idiot who denied that Croatian diaspora talent ID camps would have no impact on Australian football. What a bunch of fools you all are.

Despite your abrasive language I applaud your zeal..

The point (I) was making though regarding the SON OF A FORMER SOCCEROO is.the kid bossed it at regionals, was playing senior NPL at a very young age, is the son of a former well known player who would (just by his name alone) ordinarily mean at least 3 or 4 more pairs of eyes would be on him from the federation and he doesn't get picked for U17s representation, seemingly because he didn't want to join an Aleague academy.....
We are FARKED in the head here... whether you want to beleive it or not.
If you put a massive sign out the front of your house saying "I dont have an alarm and the door is unlocked .... Ive got jewellery in the safe and money under the mattress"  then you shouldn't be upset if you get burgled.

We have done the same to Scotland-Souttar,Boyle and Cummings. It is a global game and if players with roots in other countries want to go there and are good enough to be picked for their NTs so be it.

The Socceroos performed above expectation( including mine) at the recent WC so those homegrown players who opted to play for them showed that the talent is here. Our identification of young talent however is flawed to some extent but maybe with Arnold staying at the helm he can get good talent spotters to go around to the various areas including regional ones picking up promising players.I am sure looking at indigenous players and encouraging them to take up our code would produce a real talent pipeline.

You don't know much about team dynamics or man management do you dopey?
Let them come, let them poach, like any football team the players that I want are the ones that really want to play for my team.
But hey let's force players not to go anywhere else in this globalised world ( global game, get the correlation dopey ? ) because some racist little fucking wanker is still terrified of the "effnic" boogeyman.
Again, did you watch the World Cup recently? Would any of those guys who were "poached" made any difference against France & Argentina?  Somehow I don't think so and yet the Socceroos still did amazingly well even with those naughty foreigners "stealing"  our true blue Strayan youth.
God you're a dumb fuck however please don't stop, making a fool out of yourself is hilarious for the rest of us.

Ah that's right, it was you who was the idiot I was referring too.

Yeah, having Simunic, Gulum, Volpato, Dorigo, Seric etc etc in the team probably would've made a difference. Would Didulica have made the same error v Argentina?

Doing "amazingly well" is great and all but as a Socceroo fan I want to see us in the quarters, semis and maybe win it one day. Obviously, in order to achieve that dream, we need to assemble the best squad possible, and that won't happen if we keep losing players to foreign federations like Italy and Croatia. Clearly from Croatia's perspective, even though they also did "amazing well" at the world cup, mostly with local players,  they have identified a need to improve the team by setting up scouting networks in foreign countries. Nothing the matter with wanting to achieve your absolute best, rather than settling for "amazingly well", a losers mentality.

Your comment that "players that I want are the ones that really want to play for my team" is disingenuous. It's not just semantics that go into international representation, its travel logistics, club influence, player value are all factors as well. Noa Skoko national team players for HNS will be higher value than Noa Skoko national players for Australia. If we have this losers mentality of "players that I want are the ones that really want to play for my team" while just sitting back and letting foreign FA's march in and take our players, then the national team stocks , and inevitably results will suffer.

Come, don't come. We didn't need em for the WC, we don't need them now.

If Arnold didn't make the attempt he would be criticized. Poor bugger can't win.
