Boyle basically playing a RWB style and he's all alone out there. He's great with the one two or wandering to the middle.

Christ Irvine is poor. Using Jones as the go to station... Not his fault. Are the players trying to show Arnold they hate the system? Arguably this would work against bigger teams or other systems and likely has created good chances. Here, we're just too slow and allow India to pack their defence. Big nations have more confidence in fewer defenders which allow us that bit more space to do something.

One or two moments of variety (more conventional play) is what has created something of a chance. This is on everyone. Where the hell is the initiative by the experienced players? Why are Behich and Irvine just trotting along? Why does Arnold want Metcalfe to hug their defence and not hang in space? Why are we isolating Boyle? Corners have been shocking.

Much better there given the low base but quick passing and movement with the space has won us a corner.

Boyles corner deliveries have been terrible

Don't think a half of football has left me this frustrated in a long time. Uninspired. Insipid. I wish we just played the Olyroos.

I hate HT interviews but I would love a mic in Arnold's face now asking wtf the plan is and then to a few of the players. That's the worst half in ages. The body language of some of the players too. Something of a mix between entitlement and arrogance with nothing to back it up. They've gone in thinking it's won.

I'm telling you for a fact, the Olyroos would do a better job.

It's really concerning how much better we look against such better opposition.

Arnie seriously needs to add more strings to his bow than Aussie DNA and counter attack. It won't cut it against any teams other than Japan and maybe South Korea in Asia.

This has been the Socceroos reality for the past 15 years, it's harsh but we really need to start just thinking that the older players because they have experience deserve to start. Nobody deserves to start, there needs to be more accountability after years of bad performances. 

Boyle is horrible, runs around like a headless chook. And his corners and crosses have been abysmal. I'm not sure how he gets picked, he did well in his first lot of games with the Socceroos but I can't recall much from him since.

Well given the team we have and the way we play, set up to upset strong opponentz, comes at the cost of struggling to break down weak teams

That's the interesting part. We played Ecuador, Mexico and England and had moments where it was amazing play. I think it's mental. We don't do well being the favourite or in control. It leads to paralysis. 

You see it a lot in UEFA when teams go far East or play in Moldova too. 

Our players can play well like they do at their clubs. Each half chance today has come from quick passing on the floor and good movement. This slow, confused build up against packed defences can't work. Against superior opponents we go fast forward, why not here and use fullbacks to get through them? 

No one can cross the ball so corner means nothing

The midfield three clearly lack in technical quality in those tight spaces which is making it easier for India to block the passing lanes.

And we really only look threatening in set pieces, to be honest the u23 generation and below have better touch and control to play in those tight spaces than this lot.

Not good enough, more composure needed in the second half.

I would be bringing in McGree and maybe Silvera if they cant score early in the second half.

Makes me really question the omission of Robertson, especially with the recent retirements of Luongo, Mooy and Rogic. Truly bizarre call and now we're seeing it play out.

India's deep defensive line and compact defence is really showing Irvine, and to a lesser extent, Metcalfe's lack of technique receiving and turning in tight paces - and- playing pass and move football in neat 1/2s.

Irvine needs to receive with through balls for him to run onto - he can't receive to feet in tight spaces. Metcalfe isn't a lot better.

Arnie needs to change Irvine for McGree. Then  maybe change Metcalfe for Silvera. Metcalfe ruined a good chance, by taking an extra touch, then fluffing his shot.

Also, with McGree and Silvera, as  Attacking Mids, they can vary the point of attack by playing in the central attacking third - not so many balls from wide. India is defending them quite  well.

Hrustic technical qualities as attacking mid would be handy too, but he isn't in the squad. Bos could replace Goodwin. Tilio on for Boyle. That gives Aus more attacking 1v1 exponents on the deck.

Arnie has chosen a team that is strongest in Ball Possession Opposition.  He needs more players on the pitch stronger in Ball Possession.

I dont mind the structure with the 2-3-5 in possession but need better spacing in between the lines which is why the midfield 3 is very important has the right attributes also our wingers are not capable of beating a player 1v1 as well which doesnt help break lines.
These things are needed when breaking down deep block defences, now I get why we did well at the World Cup when we didnt need the ball to create chances.

O'Neill as a 6 then McGree and Metcalfe with instructions to play it on the floor and not do silly flicks would go a long way. 

See Irvine try and prod it towards goal late in the half? The shot went backwards. 

Honestly a midfield three of Olyroos players would do better out there, Robertson would have been handy as well as someone like Luongo.

I would bring on McGree for one of Irvine or Metcalfe.

Our midfield is absolutely stuffed for a tournament. Only O'Neill and Metcalfe possess a football brain. Arnold went on about how vital the workhorse 6 is. That's what got Stensness in. Why does he obsess over work vs skill? Irvine and Baccus are shocking with the ball. Then the inverted fullbacks are some cheap compensation to add more misery to the middle? 

Yazbek is there but will be considered too raw. 

Daniel Arzani, Massimo Luongo, Irankunda  will be useful in a game like this
