USA coach resigned so he's someone they would target. He was assistant before so this could be a gig he fancies.

100%.

I would not be against Tony G moving across the pacific.

We need one of our own if we want to make strides at the Olympics and next WC.

As a player manager and defensive coach Tony G has been good for Aus.

However, in terms of moving the national team forwards, he has taken us backwards in terms of establishing a Matildas team that plays in a  national style similar to the last three Socceroo coaches, Ange, Bert and Arnie - and - his Matildas' predecessors, the female Dutch coach (De Rues?), Stajcic and Milicivic.

Tony's counter attacking game plan fell apart against better teams in the WC.

I'd be delighted for the Americans to have Tony as their coach, and keep them confined to the football dark ages. The US are being for dead by  Spain, England, France, and probably Sweden and Japan, in women's football.

i'd prefer to keep Tony he clearly understands the women's game better then most - he has been 'good' for Australia but they will probably offer him 2-3x what we can pay him in the end of the day that is the nature of the beast

if i was in his shoes i'd take the job if it was offered to me as well assuming they doubled or tripled my current renumeration - i have always said 'Money talks'

They can have him. Hopefully FA can replace him with a coach who understands that they can make up to 5 subs in first 90 to help win tough games

I read a comment online that said 'they played well “despite” him'.

I'm in 2 minds about whether I agree or not.

I mean I'm glad we made the semis but I feel with a bit of squad rotation we could've given England more of a run.

It was clear they were gassed out wide from the start. It was individual brilliance of Kerr, not his tactics. I'd even say Carpenter was a liability leading up to her mistakes and should've been swapped earlier.

He seems to be a good people person, but his tactics and strategy are lacking, and arguably cost us that game. He got us to the semi, but out the group was minimum,

Agree, he is clearly a good people person, and obviously relates well to the squad. Tactically though, he seems only to be able to set up for one game plan at the start of the match, and seemingly isn't capable of changing things mid-game when needed, apart from throw a centre back forward and hoist it long when chasing the game, or go to 5 at the back (and lose control of the midfield) when trying to close up shop. And he doesn't appear to be capable of utilising his whole squad, including appropriate substitutions, which has become a major issue the longer this tournament went on.

I wouldn't be upset if USA poached him, although I would think they would be able to see his limitations and wouldn't want him anyway.

Who knew that dud decisions made by a coach could be subjected to fair and valid criticism.

That’s just an opinion, it doesn’t make it fair or valid.

Would much rather a Montemurro or even a Jeff Hopkins, Especially if Tony's currency has gone up? His game plan seems hardly inspiring, sit in a mid to low block and hit on the break but it's his lack of substitutions that I can not fathom.

Exactly this, defend and counter, rinse and repeat. Least amount of subs and lineup change in the comp

Montemurro - technically we would be better
Hopkins- more open and attacking minded

I’ve never seen a more indecisive international coach. Did you hear him trying to explain why he failed to sub Kiya Simon in for the France penalty shootout … after having her in the squad only for that one scenario. Some rubbish about how it was too risky given the state of the game. So he’d only be comfortable putting her on for a penalty shootout if we were 3-0 up in extra time?
Like listening to a child explain why they haven’t cleaned their bedroom after promising they would.

Some harsh comments about a coach who got the team to the semis of the WC.Yes late subs and lack of rotation did seem  poor but as a coach  he saw  how players performed on the training pitch so he made his selections accordingly. If the Socceroos had made the quarters or semis of the last WC we  would have been raving about Arnie despite many people on this forum having reservations and criticisms of the style of football he employed.

I don't think any of Tony G''s decisions or non decisions made any  difference to the result against England.Technically and physically they outmatched our girls.

As far as the USA goes I think that Sarah Wiegman would have pole position for their next coaching appointment.

True that most of us would have been delighted with a semi berth before the WC. Were we better than Colombia, Nigeria and Japan?

The  total reliance in counter  attacking  football, was a problem.

He should have based more  of a structured possession game around Fowler as a number ten ( who has the capability to play this role). Too many straight balls were played quickly  down the flanks.

There needed to be  less distance between the defensive screening line, Gorry and CC - and - Fowler. There was often a disconnect.  There was far too much reliance on early ball, accelerated attacks.
