Damn I'm gonna be a busy lad 4 Sydney Clubs and 3 of my favs, my wife gonna divorce me lol...... Wonder what APIA now will do re grandstand - its now or never coming up finally. Hope it gets to 12 through '24 but 10 it'll do its a start. How good - finalmente - some real Club football to really get behind going Pro. Im expecting a certain paisano to be coming down to Melbourne in 2025????

+x18 or 22 matches is just not enough for serious development of players. Hate that this is where we are starting. Guess I gotta take a longer term view rather than expect a long season from the start... I hear you but we got to start somewhere and obviously many are not viable yet....as it shows. At least regards development this will be 3nights better training,18player squads for eg x 8 clubs thats 144 more players @ full time compared to part time. Better than what we got currently, scope to grow.

+x+x+xNow some will pull out Others will complain that they would've applied Then it'll be Champions League format Then there'll be another excuse....... Everyone who applied knew it was for 2024 Everyone who applied is already going to have a team and a ground ready for 2024 Why not name the teams today ? unless there's something going on There's more of this story to come oh FFS ,the NSD is being packaged in with the next FA national teams/Australia Cup broadcast rights whose's current deal ends at the end of 24 no need to conspirial twat They didn't say that, they said other things for some reason and there's nothing to stop them doing it in 2025 either way Again If they know the Format why not say it ? If they know the Teams why not tell us ? What's 2 weeks silence for 2 weeks extra to then announce an 8-team League. Again, this doesn't add up

All disappointment aside I just want to congratulate all 8 x clubs for having the courage and ambition to take this step... It could wipe a few of them (us) out financially but at least 8 brave souls will kick this thing a little further down the road........ Many (Reddit is exploding) see 7 effnik clubs and Wollongong... I see 8 Australian clubs forging a new exciting era for football in this country... good luck to all involved.

Is it moneys up front the FA set too high ? Or is that X Clubs are too ambitious ? Whats going on in Qld ? Why couldn't a SA Club make the grade ? From a list of 32 down to 20 for eg now 8 definates with possible 2/4 more before end of 24 ? The 2/4 are obviously on the edge of the FA cut and give them the time I suspect.

Whilst adding new teams to the NST, progress can be made in realigning the seasons so that by the end of the decade pro/rel can be a real possibility.

so I also heard that there will be a champions league model for a third division?
If so that's pretty big news as a champions league model could grow into a conference style 2nd division. To get the full benefits of promotion relegation you want an arms race all throughout the npl which means you want at least one promotion spot per npl. Then you can have 4 spots per conference league in danger of relegation and 2 spots up for promotion. It makes a realistic path to the top

I'd say that's likely the case. Previous administrations would have just postponed the whole thing via a press release on their website and announced nothing. It would seem that the FA have taken a more positive approach and actually announced what they can. Based on their initial criteria, they could have very easily chosen to go for a cup format as they only managed to finalise 8 clubs. The others would be very close. We know Sunshine Coast would be in the running, as would be Melbourne Knights. It would be a massive shame if they couldn't line up at least two more clubs from other states. A VIC/NSW only comp will get boring quickly.

The ABC understands that clubs that have a demonstrated commitment to youth development will be looked upon favourably, with a potential "loan" option for young A-League players to the NSD part of the broader calendar and Australian Professional Leagues (APL) co-operation strategy. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-11-20/sydney-united-included-in-national-second-division-to-launch-in-/103126088

It reads like someone has written a fairly general article about the NST announcement, and then an editor has come in, changed the headline/photo and added a paragraph at the start and end to shift the contention elsewhere.

Hope all the ANTIFA warriors on Reddit are placated with: All founding clubs will sign the CPA, which means they must abide by strict requirements set by FA for on and off-field conduct leading up to the competition's start in 2025. If a club violates that agreement between now and the opening game, there is the possibility it could be removed from the new league altogether before it begins.

So from next year across the top two tiers of Australian football we have: NSW = 10 teams Victoria = 6 teams New Zealand = 2 teams The rest of Australia (4 states and 2 territories) manages 4 teams in total between them. Surely it would be simpler just to combine NSW and Vic federations and say job done.
