If jj somehow gets a h amd a happening when this is the darkness in the soul of the code i think that deserves a lot of credit. Criticism if it all blows up, sure but that should cut both ways.
Do u think healing can still happen if an nst comes through? Would love the code to unite

If JJ gets the NST league over the line for next year then he'll be anointed St James! Would be a miracle.

Yeah if the NST goes ahead next year then I think it will be a huge step towards the healing. If it's a success and something to really look up to then that would go a long way, and we'll be closer to a fully connected pyramid where old soccer and new football can earn respect on and off the pitch on the same terms. Respect for and from both sides might be the biggest thing missing IMO. How can the public respect any of us if we don't respect ourselves?

The connected pyramid... every player and supporter in most participated sport in this country will have a connection all the way to the top of the domestic pyramid. Endless storylines. Can you tell I'm a romantic haha?

There definitely needs to be respect on both sides, but ive always felt that if one side is more priveledged and powerful than the other, they have more responsibility to be magnanimous

Like us a league fans could tune out and ignore nst people if they annoyed us and we get to watch  our teams compete at the highest level with no cap on our ambition. Would it kill other a league fans to be magnanimous and say "man that sucks, i really hope the nst gets off the ground and hope nothing silly is standing in its way, if not i feel for you mate"

Yep, well put, it's disheartening.
Man that NovelStructure redditor won't let up, like they have some sort of personal vendetta against the NST. I'm still reading all the comments whilst watching big Ange.

I hate that I am the eternal doom and gloom poster mate but you really ARE a romantic if you believe that will ever happen. There is too much water under the bridge for a new dam to ever really hold all the leaks. Respect is a two way street and unfortunately the "haves" will ALWAYS fight to ensure they dont become the "have nots" .. Old Lowy really knew what he was doing when he set up a franchise system...

The APL (and yes I know I come across as a conspiracy theory nut but I really hope the more logical forumites out there can clearly see what is going on now, more than ever) will NEVER allow their franchise licenses to be devalued more than they are now with the threat of relegation ... They dont even want to "allow" the other 1000+ clubs around the country to properly unite under one pyramid in case it becomes too successful and devalues their closed off league even more ( if there is another logical reaosn for them fighting so hard against it I am open to hearing what that is btw) ...

In a way I understand the foreign ownership groups fighting so hard to protect their marketplace, what I really dont understand is how hard some of their customers fight to make sure their way is the ONLY product on the market... How would it harm the average Aleague fan if there where another 10, 20,30 teams in Australia pushing to be professional? Are they scared of losing what little fan support they have left? Surely the shitty Monoethnic Social Clubs aren't that much of a threat? Why all the bile?

So was the meeting the fa saying my way or the highway?

"The discussions were highly constructive, with all clubs expressing a shared vision and dedication to creating an NST that serves the interests of all stakeholders."

Hmmm it sounds more like "the highway" ..

As the saying goes...
"Actions prove who someone is; words just prove who they want to be."

Its all so damn disheartening... I would like to believe it was well intentioned by JJ and the FA to begin with (I know alot of people out there are convinced this was all just a false flag exercise to solidfy the ponzi scheme and maybe they are right) but clearly they have been hamstrung.... we all knew it was going to happen just hoped that it wouldnt this time...  Just so sad, a NST would have been one of things Soccer in Australia could have used as a springboard to finally gain some traction.

absolute sweet fuck all press release again virtually came out til then no point mention til such time.

My read of it is

FA
At the bar we've set we've got 8.
But it won't work with 8
We need 10, we don't have 10, we might get 10 if we hang on another month
We're offering Champions League as a Plan B, we've always got to have a Plan B

Foundation 8
Champions League format, Fuck off, there'll be no-one entering
You've got a month, otherwise Plan B is "lower the bar"

40 years ago I got sacked by a Chartered Accountancy firm in a mid sized rural town. I (thought I) had mates at another firm and chatted to them about employment but the word had been spread not to employ me. So no job offers and moved on.

The lesson is, the insecurity of the mob at the top of the pile will always trump the abilities of those underneath them so they do everything they can to minimize any threats.

Why can't they just keep the current npl and just do a finals thing with all the top teams in the country?

Yeah geez, I've only just started reading that Reddit thread and it's already descended into Greeks vs Greeks. I'm about 10% through it and wondering if I should bother with the rest of it.

Goddamn football in Australia needs to do some healing and I thought NST was going to be a large part of that. Dropouts, delays and paranoia are just rising tensions and people are taking it out on each other.

I'm genuinely disappointed in the people who don't even want to try for the NST. I understand the financial concerns, but the intangible cost and damage to the code if this NST league doesn't get going might be irreparable. I don't want to be dramatic, but I've seen out there some trauma from the past creeping back to the surface.

I hope those with the power for change know what they need to do for the healing to commence and the game to move forward. For all the good times over the past decades, there has been a darkness lurking in the soul of the code.

Its similar arguments here in the past by those opposing the old clubs, carrying on what happenned 20/30yrs ago yaddayadda.
Been sick and tired of it for years, its 2024, no club of the past is a mirror from way back then nor could they afford to be.
They have moved on, survived, their support base has changed in gens so on and so on.....sure the DNA is there but thats the "soul" we treasure about Clubs.
Anyway they are not the stumbling block in the end but close minded sideline whingers, TBH I'm more annoyed at this late stage with the FA.
If your organisation knows and reported full well a huge change needs to happen after all this time having just 1 Pro league and the massive base below stay as is WTF are they on.
Stomp on the heads, put your neck out, nothing ventured nothing gained.
To have these fits and starts - investigation after investigation, survey this survey that, tread lightly, wait till Paris is done, wait for the Feds to kiss our feet ?!, the PFA.
Its obvious just like Fed and State Gov/Councils/ we are so top heavy its not funny anymore.
As Sutho mentioned in another thread, too many have their say re the vote split, there should be 1 Football ruler for the country, the FA plain and simple but we don't want plain and simple obviously.
Then we had our ol rich jew mate having spit his dummy out of the pram set up a league that alienated and increased the divide of the game far beyond repair it seems.
I always had/have HOPE for the game here to finally get somewhere with a system that brings everyone on similar known pathways but it just doesn't seem to be sadly.

Its possible JJ is the best politician our game has ever had ? promise alot to the game below but what is he delivering ?
Sure the main directive is his/our 2 main cash cows keep giving BUT the game can't keep being in the dark ages, are we near on the only country in the world with an utter misfit and unco football system forever.

Just listened to this.

Kossie is right about the state feds but we all know that but then there's 'we should advertise the fuck out of the league'.

Next minute ' I don't watch any ads, I switch off' and 'I'll go even further I'm not buying what you're trying to sell me'.

Next minute after that.' We should run ads for the A-League'.

Uh huh.... do go on.

Jesus who is this Dom bloke?

Muz, seriously, the CReport gave him the viable ticket argument (as was expected) go to of the model he already knew all too well like his malls, put aside the MLS he knew what he was doing and then just needed his ol Johnny mate pat on the shoulder go for your life and a $15M so called Gov loan.
The rest is white collar railroading to commercialism.
Sure in part what the game needed but that typical take over broom out the lot here's the emporer's new clothes approach hasn't lasted eh.
Just re read this
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/the-fathers-of-australian-soccers-success-20051119-ge19rz.html
"We have got a participation level that is the envy of many other sports. We have got an A-League that looks the goods, and we have got a national team that is performing at the very highest level. We are a very serious player now in mainstream sport and I really think our positioning vis-a-vis the other football codes has been substantially enhanced. "I am not saying we are going to be the No. 1 football code in Australia within X number of years, but certainly our chances of achieving that have dramatically improved."

AAFC Chairman Nick Galatas was at the Meeting

It was an excellent meeting yesterday.

Yes, it's taking longer than expected, but we'll get there & get it right.

Misguided policies for 20 years has consequences.

FA & all clubs now flicking a switch at once isn't easy.

Alignment takes time.

When he says ‘all clubs’ does he mean A League clubs as well, hopefully he does as they will have to be in the conversation now.
When he says ‘20 years of misguided policies’ I believe he is saying that FA want a reset of both professional and semi professional leagues and this is the time to do it.

No mate, they acted on SOME of the Crawford report.... and even then some of it took FIFA intervention to cause them to change...

When he says ‘all clubs’ does he mean A League clubs as well, hopefully he does as they will have to be in the conversation now.
When he says ‘20 years of misguided policies’ I believe he is saying that FA want a reset of both professional and semi professional leagues and this is the time to do it.

The direct quote from FA is :

"Football Australia and the NST Clubs will continue their dialogue over the coming weeks"

Nothing in there about APL clubs (or anyone outside the NST for that matter)

NST FOUNDATION CLUBS MEET WITH FOOTBALL AUSTRALIA TO DISCUSS COMPETITION’S FUTURE

Following yesterday’s meeting between Football Australia and the National Second Tier (NST) Foundation Clubs, I am excited and pleased to announce that significant progress is being made to progress the competition and ensure a timely launch.

Discussions were incredibly productive, showcasing a strong commitment from all parties to collaborate effectively and build a sustainable and dynamic competition that will benefit the entire Australian football community.

The collective passion and shared vision among the clubs reaffirms Sydney Olympic FC’s dedication to this important initiative.

Thank you all for your patience and support throughout this process.

I look forward to sharing more details with you as soon as possible.

I should have also quoted his comment ‘alignment takes time’. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but it sounds to me that it is more than just the setting up of the NST.

Sorry mate I am not sure.... I dont know Nick personally but have seen him around the club... My understanding was that yesterdays meeting was only NST clubs and FA (of which AAFC is now at least provisionally on the board) ... could be wrong though.

It was an excellent meeting yesterday. Yes, it's taking longer than expected, but we'll get there & get it right. Misguided policies for 20 years has consequences. FA & all clubs now flicking a switch at once isn't easy. Alignment takes time.
