Central Coast Mariners star Angel Torres was arrested in dramatic scenes at Sydney Airport on Monday.
The forward was subsequently given bail after being charged with rape, assault and stalking, according to 7News.
Torres, 24, had returned to Australia from Kyrgyzstan after playing the full 90 minutes for the Mariners in their 1-1 draw against FK Abdysh-Ata Kant in the Asia Cup.
The case is due to be heard at Gosford Court next month.
Torres grew up in Colombia and played for Portuguese powerhouse Porto at youth level. He was sold to Portuguese side Alverca, then enjoyed a stint with Maltese club Balzan before moving to the Mariners in 2023.
The 24-year-old has proven to be a hit on the field with the A-League club, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in just 33 appearances.
More to follow.

Can we please get two of Australia's best legal minds on this immediately, Enzo and Rusty, to defend and/or sit in judgement of poor Mr Torres over this alleged rape. Just another case of 'misandry'**. The last thing we need is a judge who enjoys 'the limelight'** or doesn't have 'drinking experience'. ** May have just been stealthing which we all know is a 'relative misdemeanour'.** No need for a 4 week trial, mountains of evidence and hundreds of pages of a judgement when either of those 2 blokes should be able to sort it out before smoko. **Real quotes.

On a serious note... Does Channel 7 report with this much drama when it's an AFL player arrested for domestic violence and/or rape charges?

+xOn a serious note... Does Channel 7 report with this much drama when it's an AFL player arrested for domestic violence and/or rape charges? Well it seems to happen every few weeks with afl or nrl players being arrested so it’s not that newsworthy.

As long as everyone gets due legal process, that's all anyone can ask for.

+xAs long as everyone gets due legal process, that's all anyone can ask for. Club Statement released via email: The Central Coast Mariners are aware that Ángel Torres was charged yesterday with serious offences related to sexual assault by NSW Police. Given the alleged serious criminal offences with which Torres has been charged, Football Australia immediately imposed a no-fault suspension pursuant to clauses 7(b) and 7(c) of Football Australia’s National Code of Conduct and Ethics. The suspension is a precautionary measure that suspends the player from participating in football and club related activities. It is important to note that Football Australia in imposing this interim suspension is making no finding of guilt or fault in respect of the offences with which Torres has been charged. Such charges remain matters to be determined by the Courts of New South Wales. The Central Coast Mariners will not be making any further comments in relation to the matter at this time.

"old mate" ( who the fuck this side of 70 holding a beer in some white bogan pub even says that?) Bit of a sidetrack, but I've noticed that it's a phrase used by people in our Melbourne office. As a West Aussie, I've never heard any other Sandgropers use it. Maybe it's a Victorian thing? (And as I wrote that, I realised "Sandgropers" for West Australians seems to have faded out of usage)

Did a google search and there's a player charged in January that I never heard anywhere in the news/radio/websites etc until now (but was reported on at least). On the actual serious note, will see how this plays out in court I suppose. As much as the two of you like to shit on Enzo, he has a point in that as long as the victim and Torres get their due legal process, that's all we can ask for.

+xBloody hell we can't have anything nice can we? Honestly if his done this he deserves jail though What are you on about? The NRL and the AFL are constantly lurching from one scandal involving DV, drink driving, sexual assault or drugs to another and they're more popular than ever. Perversely having the biggest grubs in a sport doesn't seem to affect the popularity of the NRL or AFL one dot. The AFL's 'we've caught over a hundred players taking drugs' didn't move the 'outrage' meter at all. The spin the AFL put on all that was all time brilliant. 'Mental health', 'fragile young men', 'future prospects' blah blah blah. The APL can try some of that. Or hire one or both of the abovementioned two.

Channel Seven seems to have deleted their report According to this https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-23/angel-torres-sexual-assault-charge-mariners/103760350He wasn't arrested at Airport and there isn't any 'stalking'

He'd moved from Qld and was living in a storage unit. There's plenty of blokes with mental issues and a hair trigger wandering around the place. They can't lock them all up on suspicion. It's not the Minority Report. They can't even stop fucking grubs from killing their wives and girlfriends when they've got AVOs out on them.
