That is not all they are missing out on. The total prize money is around €2.5bn and an initial €2bn will be distributed among the 32 teams that book their plane tickets to the USA. Qualification therefore brings €50m (82m AUD) as a minimum, while there will be other results-based bonuses and the winner will receive around €100m.

Auckland City (a semi-pro club) qualifies as the highest co-efficient club in Oceania. With now 2 professional clubs in NZ surely there needs to  be a rethink future editions to allow this ALM teams Oceania entries on the basis of their co-efficient or at the least a 3 way playoff series to determine the entry.

Because there is no agreement in place with the OFC for Wellington to compete in their champions league.
Do you set it as Wellington get an automatic spot? They only qualify for Oceania if they make A-League finals? Do they get an automatic spot from the bottom of the preliminary playoffs? There needs to be a yardstick for them.

Maybe, in the future, they might decide to make a deal that whoever finishes highest between the new Auckland team and Wellington gets a spot in the qualifiers for Oceania.
