The USA even more than Australia has no what you could call a traditional pathway development for players, nor any real structure for quality training and given most training was / is paid training it varies in quality and time.

The MLS has grown to such a size that it needs players of a certain quality.... further national and state bodies development systems were  confusing and often conflicting and Covid came and what systems they had were starting to fail even more.

The MLS decided to take matters into their own hands, and this bit I am not to sure on, but essentially they developed a template to train players from U 13 thu to U19 [can we stay away why not start at U9].....

Various teams from around the USA & Canada could apply to be """MLS Next""", if accepted your club is then associated with the MLS as providing  excellent training among other things..... the rewards for these clubs is MLS will look at there players.... and players and there parents will look to these clubs

The system was started in 2020 and to date has 133 registered clubs spread across the country.... this means 133 high quality training academies and from what I can make out not at a mega cost to those that play there...

This is an interesting concept, as any parent wanting to improve their childs training is often over loaded with who is good or bad.... this MLS recognition provides both parents and players .

From what I have been able to read so far, its difficult to meet the MLS standards and they are audited to ensure they maintain standards.

I wonder aloud if a similar system could work here...

We should be copy/pasting the AFL development pathway programs and I'm not even kidding.
