Arnie was quoted in a recent article how impressed he was with Arzani's recently  developed defensive game - and - how much he had improved under Popa's tutelage.

Difference between pace and acceleration.. Arzani has always been more of the latter.

Good point.

He is still able to beat people, so with a lot of dribbling techniques acceleration is key to get away from the marker.

Where he was burnt by Old and Paine, they were fairly long sprints.

My thoughts also on Arzani. Since his injuries, his pace over 10 metres has never been the same.  A move to a playmaker role is his only real option now.

Arzani is still beating players by exquisite shoulder feints/body swerves  and La Croquetas.

The pace issue  manifests when he is tracking back chasing  opponents who are ball carrying. Not sure if Paine and Old are extraordinarily quick?

After the GF Arzani has to play for the senior Socceroos.

His recent shooting has improved. He nearly scored from range twice - inducing a great fingertip save from Vuka, plus another Arzani shot went just wide. His dribbling sequence created the   eria goal.

His defending has improved.

My only new  concern  in the previous Nix game, both Old and Paine burnt him for pace over the turf.

Now the technical Valadon is playing more minutes  for Melb Vic, some of the passing interplay between the trio of  Arzani, Valadon and Teague, in particular, plus Villupillay, Kelifi, Folami, Macach, is pretty exquisite.

Observing Arzani against Nix in the semi-final I've found an issue.

I'm not sure if Payne and Old  from the Nix have exceptional speed, but both outpaced Arzani whilst Running With Ball at their feet, whilst Arnie was  struggling to keep up with them trying to defend running devoid of the ball.

This is cause for concern for a winger.  Footballers find it easier to run faster with no ball, than a ball at their feet.

Boyle might be quicker over the turf.

Arzani might be better suited to playing at  Ten or Attacking Mid long term?

He has anyway learnt to defend

Arzani would be such a weapon to bring on against low block Asian sides. No brainer as a sub imo

Exactly - Arzani on one side & Irankunda on the other with 25 mins to go

Imagine having Irankunda, Arzani and Yengi up front for Roos. It wouldn’t be boring like it was at ACup that’s for sure. Some real attacking forwards are needed

This is not FIFA.

Arzani in is a no-brainer.

Should've been at the Asian Cup and his absence cost us.

He's not a 90 minute player but he is so much better than most of Arnie's plodders.

Borello first played for Roos as winger years ago. Silvera is in better league but just 4 goals 2 assists in 37 games. Arzani has 4 goals 6 assists in 27 games. Pretty comparable.

There's definitely an argument for including Arzani and I'm not against the idea because of his playing qualities I mentioned earlier. I'd favour others but its a toss. The biggest reason for picking Arzani imo is he may help pick apart deep lying defences which is something we need in Asia.

Playing for the Celtic reserves??? No sorry mate i watch alot of football but I wouldnt have even known where to look for that one... Looked like a bit of a "step-over king" when he was here and in his 15 mins of fame at the World Cup... bit of a luxury player in my opinion. I hear he is improving his work rate but not someone I wold be pinning any hopes on for the future. But thats without any specific football technical performance stats or criteria analysis :P

Why would they be competing for a position? Boyle is a RF. Borrello cracked the NT as a CF after being a RF most of his career.

Arzani is a LF and there is a lot less competition there. Goodwin picks himself. Silvera is ahead too. McGree if we're playing a 4-5-1. After that there's a group thereabouts including Arzani.

I wouldn't have Arzani in a 26-man squad right now. But he offers something others don't with his dribbling, ability to draw defenders, create space, unlock defences and provide assists. That's an appealing option from a bench for different match scenarios.

Dunno what the relevance of that is? Especially considering that Silvera and Metcalfe play overseas at a higher level, Boyle and Borrello shouldn’t be anywhere near the national team while Lachie has missed most of the season through injury.

He was given his first team debut by manager Brendan Rodgers on 31 October 2018 in a Scottish Premiership match against Dundee.[22]

He did arrive in Glasgow in August and played a couple of months for Youth team despite being nearly 20.... Maybe his dribbling wasnt THAT strong after all?

Yes 7 seperate dribbling sequences every game when he got aroumd 60 per game. Players were like bowling oins around him falling over when he changed direction. Would love him to get back to that level. Even though he only had 2 goals and 3 assists when he left, his dribbling was so strong he debuted for celtic straight away but did his acl
