The first question is does the ref has the remit to tell him to sit down. IFAB interpret the LOTG as one person can be standing. He was the only one standing in the Mariners technical area. At the same time Talay and his assistant were both constantly standing and consistently outside their technical area. So was it in his remit - not according to IFAB. Did he apply his own interpretation consistently - no. Will I lose sleep over it - no.

Just saw this incident
Salute was to someone in the opposition dugout, not the camera
And he got the 2nd Yellow for taking the piss out of the ref by refusing to sit down despite very clear and explicit instruction

IFAB deems that he doesn't.

If that booking came with instructions to sit down (As per the 'one person' rule, then he poked his own bear. One thing referees generally don't like, especially those that I can see being deemed as power-hungry in threads like this, is people undermining their authority on the field. That's how games get out of hand. Faghani can control his own actions. So can Schofield.

IFAB deems that he doesn't. You're right, it's not in IFAB but how many standing in the technical area is down to the competition rules Generally one is the accepted number. So in the A League, if it's one, the ref can tell anyone to sit down if there's more than one standing. Every couple of matches I'll have to tell the bench to sit down. (Usually pre match I'm telling the coaches only one standing, subs can only be standing if they're warming up and then not in the box.)

He pretended to sit down and then stood back up after Faghani told him multiple times to sit down. Sucked in. Players do this too when you say turn around so I can take your number and then they tell you their number rather than spin around so you can see it. Then you have to ask them again and possibly again. I'm looking forward to the day I book a bloke a second time because he won't turn around despite being asked multiple times. (I've come so close a couple of times.)

My issue is with the consistency, zrilic was up at the same time as Ufuk for most of the game, if your going to officiate these petty rules then it has to be done consistently.
This was anything but consistent.
Faghani is a joke.

That's the only time I've ever, ever seen it enforced - when multiple people have gotten up to remonstrate with the referee.

Lots of quoting of the laws and descriptions, anecdotes and interpretations offered for how that might be used in match situations. More of it I say.

Surely that lets them off?!
