Thanks for the above. Anyway, it'd ludicrous to not be capped capped for Australia by the time the German tabloids start entertaining such an idea.

He’ll be back in a few years licking his wounds. He’s very immature I just can’t see him having it to survive. Arnold should immediately respond and say he will pick him when he’s mature enough to play for the green and gold and if that means losing out to those other two countries so be it. Put it back in him he needs to earn the shirt. That includes attitude and maturity as well as talent. It’s a privilege not a right.

Is it citizenship only or do fifa need you to have been in the new country 5 years? With Germany's new 3 year turbo citizenship legislation this sets up just wonderfully. They had been trying it on with Guirassy even when he wasn't so good and this season he was just mental but had already played for Guinea.

Sosa also until he opted for Croatia.

The only proof that FIFA requires is a passport - buy they do require that they've lived in the country for 5 years to be eligible to play for a non-birth nation. If that makes sense. I'll see if I can find the exact wording

Here's the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying regulations: (Regulation 05.14)
  • 14 Eligibility of players
    • 1. Each association shall ensure the following when selecting its representative team for the preliminary competition of the FIFA World Cup 2026™:
      • a. All players shall hold the nationality of its country and be subject to its jurisdiction.
      • b. All players shall be eligible for selection in accordance with the FIFA Statutes, the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes and other relevant FIFA rules and regulations.
    • 2. The participating member associations shall be responsible for fielding only eligible players. Failure to do so shall lead to the consequences stipulated in the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
    • 3. Protests regarding the eligibility of players shall be decided by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
And the statutes and regulations they refer to - specifically in relation to "Acquiring a new nationality" (Article 7):
  • ART. 7 ACQUISITION OF A NEW NATIONALITY
    • 1. Any player who refers to art. 5 par.1 to assume a new nationality and who has not played international football in accordance with art. 5 par. 3 shall be eligible to play for the representative teams of the new association only if he fulfils one of the following conditions:
      • a) He was born on the territory of the relevant association;
      • b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant association;
      • c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant association;
      • d) He has lived on the territory of the relevant association:
        • i) for players that began living on the territory before the age of 10: at least three years;
        • ii) for players that began living on the territory between the age of 10 and 18: at least five years;
        • iii) for players that began living on the territory from the age of 18: at least five years.
    • 2. A player who seeks to rely upon par. d ii) must:
      • a) demonstrate that the move to the territory of the association was not for the purpose of participating for its representative teams; and
      • b) submit, via the relevant association, a request for eligibility to the Players’ Status Committee.

EDIT: OK, Windows 11 and the new snip and sketch are playing up with pasting images, So I have updated with the text cleaned up.

That's not how it played. He said he is not sure about his NT future before backtracking and saying his dream was to play for the Socceroos. The thing is he was very likely to be called up in this window. Now, if he isn't it's Arnold fault because he's picking on the poor kid. If he is picked it's Arnold succumbing to pressure.

Idiot people on twitter suggesting the Germans will try to convince him to sit out for 5 years and become a German national to play for them.

He probably has a stellar career in front of him but being the standout player for Adelaide is not really that big an ask. I'd pick him for the upcoming window as well as Arzani to play as a 10. If Mauk can turn around what was a fairly quiet first half of the season (1 goal and 2 assists and a red card vs 7 goals and 4 assists) for him - Arzani feeding him would be exciting to watch. To be fair to Arnold Irankunda's  his best form has been after the March qualifiers.

Would love to see Irankunda and Arzani on pitch for Roos. Defeders would definitely struggle with both of them at same time - even just as subs for last 20-30 minutes.
Will be surprised though if Arnold does select them both - will probably go with same old Leckie, Boyle, Mabil, Silvera etc

He just got asked about his Socceroos intentions and Irankunda said yes, I want to play and hopefully that'll happen soon. And said that he still has decisions to make in the future but is very willing to play for the Socceroos. A passing comment from a provoking question which made a redundant headline.

Don't be emotional

I wouldn’t pick him just for these stupid comments.

How immature is he.

And at the end of the day it’s laughable that the threat is ‘I’d go to barundi’. There is no chance in hell that will happen. Number 1 his value goes down so his agent will stop it, number 2 players from
Barundi don’t even want to play for them 😂I know cause it did work for them about 15 years ago.

Press conference comments here. He looks more frustrated with it all to be honest.

Given the immunity of international windows. Does Australia even have to bother liaising with Bayern? I think for the Olympics some liasing could have helped with European clubs yet they didn't want anything of it.

Barundi and tanzania are both outside the top hundred and have squads that look much weaker than an a league squad. So indeed they are a bit weak. Just lucky he isnt eligible for a decent team

Not just that but travelling to and from barundi games is not for the feint hearted.

It is always exceptionally hard, sometimes impossible.

Irankunda is enlisted to he’s own view, this country has a tall poppy syndrome culture and it shows with outdated attitudes like not picking him for under age football.

A serious football country would not waste him capping their best players already, let be honest we do the opposite because we accept mediocrity as a football country.

The article is mostly about how much he wants to play for Australia and how he's been doing well and then the sly question of changing allegiance and he says 'of course'. There's the headline.

This shouldn't even be happening because he should have had 3 A caps already. Silly comments but his community are very close to him and they can get into his head easily.

I can't remember any of our best Socceroos being this arrogant at 18.

What the heck is going on here

He doesnt start tonight in a pure marketing game despite being the front face of the promo material

He doesnt get called up for the olyroos with vidmar claiming it was a mutual decision and saying he is too mentally fragile to play then apparently inquires about him when tilio was injured

Arnie selected him when he was doing as much as g kuol was in the a league but just as a train on player

Does he tick off coaches or something?

Good thing he is only eligible for minnows rather than world cup regulars
