Pretty relevant explanation from a yank for why the higher you go the faster the game is but the slower it looks https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QTiuDrLMIWsAn spl game with 450 passes looks slower than a championship game with 700 which looks slower than a uefa r16 match with 1000 passes even thoigh there are more touches, more ball movement and the same number of kms run as you go up the levels

Always felt youth football looked swift but that's as their smarts aren't there just yet to take it slow and anticipate.
Same with Asian opposition. It looks amazingly fast as it's so erratic and teams from the higher nations get thrown off with the unconventional runs and the ball ping ponging everywhere.
I've always seen my own teams in a bad light compared to watch others. Watching the Euros I think Australia is probably as good as Georgia or Albania but once we get out there ourselves we don't care badly at all. It's the lack of competitive games that makes it hard to gauge.

Grazor, its interesting when looking at some of the euro game stats to date, say a team has 700+ pass's compared to the 300 or abouts of the opponent. Yet their distance travelled klm's is very similar in some of those dominated games. Goes against the mind logic eh. johnsz, your right we are harsh critics of our fav teams and more so NT. You think we up to Albania's mobility ? or how about their pretty good attempts on the counter ? The only time I recall us in a big game of late getting 1 in the onion bag on a counter was leckie in Qatar. I don't reckon we play to speed or skillset some of these with all due respect B level Euro NT's.

I've seen a few of this guy's videos before - they're pretty good. Particularly liked this one (the title is a bit click-baity, but the content is good on what it's like being a pro footballer) "The Surprising Truth About Professional Football that Amateurs Don't Realize..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E798U31uGM

I liked the part about the mindless press. It is interesting to keep an eye on players who are good enough to handle someone running in a straight line towards them. Almost no one over 23 can in the a league

The touches and passes per game goes up as u go up the levels The socceroos are better than any of these teams without the ball. When you watch a replay of the roos pause it every time someone recieves the ball and count how many passing options they have. It is crazy and makes up for our lower technical ability These euro teams only need one passing option haha I think most of our spcceroos are not resistent to the mindless press with the sole exceptions of bos circati and robertson

On the content at the pro level there are 4 stages of training with the 4th being minimatches

It's an interesting perspective on how the speed of the game can feel different depending on the level of play. I've noticed that too when watching different leagues. It's not just about the number of passes or ball movement but also how players anticipate and react at higher levels.

@ Block Blast At higher levels (e.g., UEFA Champions League Round of 16), players are smarter and more efficient in their actions. They move and position themselves in ways that minimize wasted effort.
