It’s a lot more than just the 50 States.
It’s their whole DNA towards sport and their fabric incl the amount of billionaires !
Only in the USA as they say - no where, no where can or should follow their sports models.
It just cannot work elsewhere just out of the blue as it tried to replicate here.

yeah the tricky part is we have to invent something new here as there is no comparable country to australia
- sparse population spread out over massive continent
- low participation rate (by global standards) because football isn't the most popular sports

even rugby league can have p and r in england yet no code in australia has even a second division despite being much richer.

my model is to siphon off some of fa's budget to fund a conference division in between the 2 top national tiers and the npl and have a limit on how many leagues some clubs can get relegated to if they meet certain off field criteria until the magic of p and r gets us to a place where there is enough football infrastructure out there to make it work

Sounds accurate tho?

Hard to replicate their model here tho since we have 5 cities big enough and usa has like 50 haha

Reddit is a weird place all around lol.

Telling me the times I’ve gone in for a looksy.
It surprises me how good ol regular posters here jumped there.
They can say what they like about here at times over the years but as for having some kind of reality about the game overall it’s missing in there.
Dreamland so many of them.

yer ta mate, having read some of the questions/comments its a real shame seeing so much ignorance but I'm not surprised.
Such as this
USA/MLS doesn't have promotion and relegation, and the league just grows from strength to strength

I did an analysis that suggested we are getting bigger crowds than u would expect for our player wage. We need to make that profitable through a better stadium strategy and a better use of transfers

800k player budgets is interesting. Suggests at least the starting xi will be fully pro!

yep - Canbra wrong place wrong time kind of scenario NCB.

Here's one that really irks me bringing the game where it should be from the beginning.
These damn over sized stads used......
All and good when you could have the perfect game/comp and Clubs that really connect with the locals as football roots really are :

Agree... the right sized venues are important for these clubs, but it seems the regulation from local and state government about who owns stadiums in this country is almost an impossible hurdle to leap.   Mariners, Adelaide, Perth, Victory, Bulls play in the right sized grounds - WSW if things are going well.   Maybe now WU also. The thing that kills though is the rent. Brisbane pay $100k per home game. For a government facility? Just madness. Perth pay through the arse too.   Would love Newcastle, City, Brisbane, Nix to play in smaller grounds, pack out 10k...   And don't get me started on the quality of playing surface... Allianz Stadium in Sydney is a joke for most of the season...

Yep we only need 10/15k stads - but all/well those other supporters are too consumed/convinced by the sell up of AL beginnings.

Other interesting highlights to me:
  • Re: Canberra expansion - "The fund managers who were lined up to press go on it eased back in the last six months as the APL restructured."
  • Peacock mentioning he offered his services to 10 for A-League, but was turned down.

Interesting re having been asked about what he would change to convert the many registrations into bums on seats at top level games :

This question has existed since 1977, and yet to find the right answer!

A few little things - AL clubs need to have better relationships with NPL clubs for starters - a small part of the big picture, but football people getting on with football people. Wild concept!

And then somehow AL clubs need to be more visible in the community they represent. Some clubs do these as well as possible. It's no secret the NRL and AFL position is based off a tribal element to their clubs from the start of time

I thought australian participation numbers were magnificant until i compared to football nations. England has 14mil, scotland nearly as many as us with a fifth of the population, around 30 percent of all youth in the netherlands play etc. If we matched football nations our participation rate would be around 6 million.

As an aussie that wants to win everything i hate to ask this question, but given our low participation rate are we expecting too much of australian football? And should we supporters of our game be all hands on deck trying to get new people to play to up participation rates rather than worrying if they come to a league games?

Got to say you can't not like AP, has always comes across well and importantly luvs the game we all luv.

His comments re NST

I'm still waiting to see the final . Do know FA have staff dedicated to trying to make it happen, but if it was a simple process the fact is we'd have one by now. It is not. It's costly. Playing budgets are said to be around the 800k mark. Then the travel and accom and other resources needed. You're looking at 2m. As part of the series with Code did find out the clubs have been told by FA in the first year at least centralised revenue will be unlikely. Finding a sponsor in this market not easy, even harder finding TV dollars. FA are adament it's not their role to pay for this out of their own revenue pot. So it's on the clubs and for some its a risk. Others, like Preston, who I watched in a big Cup tie recently v South Melbourne, look to have the model - over 100 sponsors, their own facility, they aren't putting the club's viability at risk by playing. Relying on one big cheque from one source to fund a club's ambition is a very big risk.   Would like some clarity from FA in the next few weeks about where it is at exactly. Planning for next season had begun at these NPL clubs.

What a question from Joey Lynch!

Would you rather fight one Harry Souttar sized Josh Nisbet or ten Josh Nisbet sized Harry Souttar’s?
