How will byes work with an uneven draw ?
If it’s a standard H/A season it works fine. But with 3 extra rounds would mean teams play more than others ?

I wouldn't trust News.com 2. the idea of 'rounds' is an unnecessary restriction 3. long weekends , School Holidays 'Festivals of football' etc all allow all kinds of jumbling of fixtures 4. Feel sorry for whoever isn't invited to the Unite Round

Full home and away season (With byes) can be done in 28 rounds. So the 29th Unite Round is going to fuck things up, because 1 team won't be playing that extra game... EDIT - never mind me I was doing maths of playing 13 teams with a 14th bye. Home and Away season with byes is 26 Rounds (24 games), so to make Unite Round work, there will be (A) one team not invited obviously, (B) A couple rounds with multiple byes, so that each team can get to the 27 games. So 29 Matchdays all together still.

It means all of your home games will be played at your home ground. Seems like a good deal to me.

+xI might be in the minority here, but to be honest, the whole bye thing doesn't bother me too much. Yeah, byes don't bother me much either. I don't like lopsided draws though. They should be either playing home + away, or like the old days where there's an extra third game against EVERY team, not just some. Reeks of AFL to me. NRL started doing it too once they re-added Rabbitohs.

Old and wise mate told me years ago when news start to attack something you can be sure its about to expand, and News don't want them too.
After ignoring us for years, News seem to find another fault line weekly,

To be honest the bye does not worry me. I just want to make sure that each team plays every team just twice - home and away.
As for Unite round lets retweak it - at least for the men. 13 ALM teams plus 8, 10 or 12? NST teams playing on the Unite weekend. Depending when it is scheduled either CCM or SFC could possibly miss out to even up the numbers (depending on ACL2 and ACLE scheduling and the respective teams progress. TBH the ACL2 seems to be less arduous without the multiple stages compared to the AFC Cup so I would expect SFC to go far.
My preferred date would be the the Easter weekend (18-21 April) which would be the weekend after the midweek ACL2 Semifinal (15 or 16 April) and just before the ACL Elite QF in Saudi Arabia (25th or 26 April).
The date could be earlier but having it later gives the NST a few rounds to get up to speed. It may be gimicky but playing an extra match upsets the proper home and away season. It also gives exposure to the NST for when 9 teams from the ALM miss in the weeks coming up and may get a few ALM followers looking more locally for the winter months.

The Championship is going to struggle enough in the first few years as it is mate, dragging teams to an interstate destination to play a round that members cant travel too will NOT help... Leave the "razzle dazzle" to the entertainemnt league.

From what I've heard, the only reason Canberra aren't in, YET, is the APL knocked back $20 mill holding out for $25m.

interesting drama just heard from a Red Army spokesperson earlier said APL are officially not waiting for ACL Elite and ACL Two draws to be held in two weeks time.
as ALM and ALW fixture release for 2024/25 season is due out tomorrow morning he said with time TBA and its two years in a row they've not waited for AFC club competition confirmed dates involving Australian clubs (which are Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC).

Given APL's current cashflow challenges, I wonder what it costs to reschedule I assume they have a deal with Airlines and Hotels, how much can they muck them about without costing more ? Also the hoohah with the broadcasting cost blowout this year. Who pays when this mucks up their schedule ?

Basically it's gonna be a rough season with the bye found, clubs having no money and the Paramount deal still going.
I'm hoping the season after we get: Canberra in to make it 14 teams, a new TV deal either YouTube or Stan and the clubs really trying to engage fans by trying different things

You will still have six games every week to watch on the telly. Be careful what you wish for re: the TV deal. Not many countries around the world show EVERY game live.

+x+xBasically it's gonna be a rough season with the bye found, clubs having no money and the Paramount deal still going.
I'm hoping the season after we get: Canberra in to make it 14 teams, a new TV deal either YouTube or Stan and the clubs really trying to engage fans by trying different things Man, you need to start thinking positively, a bye is not the end of the world. You will still have six games every week to watch on the telly. Be careful what you wish for re: the TV deal. Not many countries around the world show EVERY game live. I just have flashbacks from under 12s when we had bye rounds hated not playing as a young lad. As the other bloke said they are trying to fit in with the Asian competition so see how it goes.

+xBasically it's gonna be a rough season with the bye found, clubs having no money and the Paramount deal still going. They seem to have been pretty clever with handling the bye rounds. Having the byes midweek and multiple clubs having bye rounds on the same day, means there isn't huge gaps between games. Example, Roar play on Jan 11th, then have a bye midweek (along with MV and MAC) on the 14th then play again on the 18th. As far as I can tell, the longest gap is 10 days. Obviously I'd prefer no byes, but the schedule could be much worse.

Just noticed they have also changed the FTA games. Now it will be both Saturday games 5pm and 7:35pm and no FTA on Sunday.
