yep, mind you as mentioned CR are not a unknown, they can play football but like many small countries around there alot of politcal upheavals.

Wish they would merge the Nth / Central American federation with the Sth American. I think a consistent Copa + WC qualification would do wonders for football in North America and, given the small number of teams, I find the Sth American federation WC qualifiers relatively stale and boring.

Just really not gauging this tournament at all. Plenty of good highlights on YouTube. I get this odd feeling it's only between Brazil and Argentina and Chile, Peru, Ecuador are just also rans. A lot to play for still.

That made me want to look at the draw to see how that would play out.

I absolutely hate when tournaments like this have the groups put together. Countries shouldn't play eachother again until the final tbh. I get there are weird exceptions (eg, Euro and Asian Cups having the 3 teams qualify), but still. Pretty sure there was a World Cup 'recently' that was like this - might have been 2002.

Yeah agree mate, watched the replay last night and Chile unlucky not to peg one back... Stats are absolute garbage in putting this game in context, because Chile's defensive block was almost perfect... Argies wasteful infront of goals.... fascinating contest....

Argies had to play, I was impressed by the chileans putting up a Sparta type stand :) - yer those stats are stacked argies way obviously and why I always contest or just roll my eyes to the stat experts - its not always as it seems.
Chile good football/sporting nation compared to some in that region.
Some key players as you'd know modern times, Sanchez in his prime Barca/Arsenal, Vidal was a beast mid at Juve/Bayern/Barca - big idols back there.

I visit there due to business last 10yrs + - football is huge as is golf nowadays, got a couple getting into PGA now, tennis very strong.
