USA has been poor at 3x3 bball at a glance. Good to see ticks next to Australian athletes on the schedule. Patiently awaiting the next round of boxing with a few who've advanced well. Aus men's doubles into the tennis semis.

+xif they have 3x3 basketball, can we have that handball game we played as a kid at school? Would absolutely dominate that type of handball! Our palms are tougher for it.

https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/results/sailing/men-s-windsurfing/prel001100--Going really well. It seems to be like Archery that you have mass qualification then top seed faces the lowest seed and so on in the knockouts.

Boomers lost and are in massive trouble.
Men's tennis doubles won first set and now lead 4:1 on 2nd but the shakes are coming.... Deuce many times this game. A win guarantees a silver at least.

Pretty sure we're on the cusp of gold in men's windsurfing. Australia has led since day dot and it comes down to a final race I think. That's where it could all crumble. I guess silver must be guaranteed then.
5:1 in tennis. 1 more!

Men's hockey lost 3:2 to India but should advance as group has 4 teams then 2 whipping boys with top 4 advancing.
Women's water polo beat Canada and are on a roll

Canada beat Spain and therefore the Boomers advance by 4 point difference.

2 golds in 7min with 50m men's freestyle and women's 200m backstroke. McKeown you gem! Fark if the women's 7s and the women's 100m freestyle had worked out better it'd be bedlam right now.
Women's high jump looks the goods. BMX and wind surfing should see medals and hopefully golds.

Australia men's BMX race crashed out in final. In the worst starting gate he had to get across quickly and risk it all and got clipped. It's weird they have so many races to get to the final then it all comes down to delivering in one single race. France with a podium sweep but the guy who won the first 6 races gets the bronze.

Gold in women's BMX race. Smashed them. The flaw though is the British cyclist was so good in the early races and crashed out in the final. The sport is just too swift and precarious for it to come down to a single final.
Swimming fair enough. Diving has a fair way of finding the winner I think.

Spain 97th min equaliser against Colombia in the womens football quarter final. Would have been a massive upset. Going extra time now so could still be. USA beat Japan with Rodman scoring the only goal in extra time earlier.

Spain beat Colombia on pens.
Mckeon with a surprise bronze on medley having finished 4th but for the American to have made an illegal turn and be disqualified.
Australia bronze in mixed relay. Somewhat stuffed it but McKeon would been the butterfly swimmer allowing Chalmers to do freestyle but the medley final didn't allow enough time to do both.

Germany beat Canada on penalties and Brazil beat France in a bit of an upset. There was meant to be a European dominance coming in womens football, both Spain and Germany pretty lucky to go through. Semi's are Germany v USA and Spain v Brazil.

No shame then in the Matildas losing to Germany and USA. If we are just going there to make up the numbers, then yeah it was fine. But we were battered by Germany, and the USA had already qualified with nothing to play for still looked classes above until stoppage time when we got desperate.

Australia women's waterpolo winning their group awaiting 4th placed opponent from the other group. Semi against Hungary or USA which will be very tough.
The men have shocked everyone by finishing 2nd in their group. If the tables are accurate, a very tough game against Greece awaits who were 3rd in their group.

Showdown in final race of meet. Australia and USA tied on 7 golds. Women's medley to end where Australia have a great chance but the Americans will be so motivated to prevent 2nd place.
Australia men's medley utter garbage finishing 6th. China win in with beef burher hormone bloke at the end. Our backstroke and butterfly way off the pace. Yong a decent breaststroke prospect.

They'll be added to the official tally but the open water events feel different to the pool. They're coming up in 2 days.
Last time USA didn't top the gold count was 88 pipped by East Germany.
Absolute showdown now and there can't be a better set of Australian swimmers to attempt history.

USA smash the WR to secure the most golds. Strauch for Australian breaststroke was a deadly decision. She's just so slow. Ramsay should've been chosen. McKeown showing fatigue with a lower back. I think they all crumbled under the pressure knowing history was at stake. Looked rushed in the water.

Men's hockey out to Netherlands. Frustrating after two somewhat surprising results with India eliminating GB but the bigger shock was Spain beating Belgium.
Silver in women's 50m free. Happy for the Swede who has been a true professional and is nearing the end of her career. Close run things across so many races. The Americans still got 28 which is a bit under recent totals. Interestingly, for those who like numbers, 19 countries won a swimming medal which is the typical total or 21 at other recent games. The non USA/Aus Gold could was 20 which is fairly close to recent games too. The biggest difference was the number of silvers.
I think I've cracked it. The Russian absence is where the Americans and others got a lot of the podium.
Women's high jump on with 2 top chances.

For shits and gigs - the most recent 'points' tally (3x Gold, 2x Silver, 1x Bronze) - all countries over 20 points are listed (which is the top 11) Country | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Points | USA | 19 | 26 | 26 | 135 | China | 19 | 15 | 11 | 98 | France | 12 | 14 | 18 | 82 | GB | 10 | 12 | 15 | 69 | Australia | 12 | 11 | 8 | 66 | Korea | 10 | 7 | 7 | 51 | Japan | 9 | 5 | 10 | 47 | Italy | 7 | 10 | 5 | 46 | Netherlands | 6 | 5 | 4 | 32 | Canada | 5 | 4 | 8 | 31 | Germany | 5 | 5 | 2 | 27 | For comparison, the actual top 11 (sorted by most golds, then silvers, then bronze) Country | Gold | Silver | Bronze | USA | 19 | 26 | 26 | China | 19 | 15 | 11 | France | 12 | 14 | 18 | Australia | 12 | 11 | 8 | GB | 10 | 12 | 15 | Korea | 10 | 7 | 7 | Japan | 9 | 5 | 10 | Italy | 7 | 10 | 5 | Netherlands | 6 | 5 | 4 | Germany | 5 | 5 | 2 | Canada | 5 | 4 | 8 |
