Interesting also to note the lack of acknowledgment of post-European migration to 🇦🇺 as a demographic for catchment. This was arguably the NSL’s single biggest failing from the mid-late ‘80s onward.

Has anyone read the Bradley Report? Not sure that I had heard of it before. Interesting reading, from pro/rel to franchises. They even labelled it and "entertainment business" hahaha! I'll post some screenshots because the text doesn't convert nicely.

Furthermore, this was itself a pseudo-rehash of an earlier report done back in the early ‘80s; its recommendations weren’t pushed through either, though in fairness the demise of Newcastle KB Utd & relegation of Canberra City forced the opposing forces’ hand somewhat.

And further to the point grazorblade makes, a national 3rd division is def a must someday.

Yeah I couldn't believe some of it, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

But very interesting reading. As you said Graz, it does look like the beginnings of the district-franchise thinking. Clubs wanted to expand their base but didn't know how to go about it.

And the pro/rel discussion has hit me a little. I've been very for it, but geez they make some compelling points in there. Stifling club development one of them. It feels like they've always been convinced that true pro/rel won't work here. There will be expanded selection criteria, not solely performance. It's pretty much licencing. But we just don't have enough clubs there yet.

The second tier really needs to be a success. And then the third tier bring themselves up close to that standard, which is what Johnson has mentioned at the NST announcement.

Yeah having large travel budgets for any conference and national league and 9 npls (or whatever equivalent we had back then) makes p and r a real issue. I think we need a 3rd division

Thanks for posting the report. Interesting that after this report the nsl scrapped p and r for the last decade of the comp

They did say p and r was only possible if there are two divisions

I suppose the a league was an implementation of this report

LFC.

Thanks Guus,
Do you see we are still pretty much in the same pigeon hole over so many same similar points made way back in 1990.

Unbelieveable but sadly its real.
No wonder we're still in quick sand.

Interesting time capsule

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fIeOPCg6Ke0

Had a chuckle when the guy from the australian mentioned with trepidation the possibility of seeing folk dancing. Was surprised that the head of the oz soccer federation didnt like seeing australian flags
