"If we don't have a coach by that point, we, of course, need to appoint an interim coach, but time is on our side."

"Our next competitive match isn't until Women's Asian Cup in 2026 so when it comes to Matildas coach, it's about getting the right coach, as opposed to trying to rush a decision."

If we want any sort of serious improvement time is not on our side. How many training sessions with the full squad are we going to have in the next 2 years? How many quality international friendlies are we going to get to really develop our playing group and playing style to the requirements of the new coach? There are 6 international windows each year in women's football according to wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_International_Match_Calendar).

We needed to be looking already and have a succession plan in place (not necessarily a successor in the wings) - it is not as though they made the decision not to extend Gustavsson in the last week of the Olympics...is it?

We are hosting the Cup and we have qualified, but we do not want to be working out issues in the lead up to the tournament again.

I think we need a coach onboard and with time to consider squad issues for the next international window (late October 2024) or the one after that (late November/December 2024). Any later and it poses a huge risk to our chances on home soil in 2026.

I do not agree 'we have time' - it is a somewhat more urgent matter.

"We're in dialogue with the players and that's healthy," he said

If we were in dialogue with the team and that included telling them that this is the point where they decide if they are up for a professional national career or would rather just play club football then that would be healthy. It is called managing expectations and our playing group has lost sight of the realities of professional football at the national level based on the performances we have seen.

If we are asking them what seemed to work well for them as a playing group and individuals and what did not work well then that is healthy. They are from a diverse range of football backgrounds and their experience is incredibly relevant.

If we are going anywhere near asking them what they want the new coach to be like or how they would like the new coach to be then that is not healthy. It is critical that the players understand that their opinions do not form selection criteria for their new 'boss'. I honestly would rather have a coach come in and clean sweep the group then invite individuals back, and expect to lose games in the interim, rather than have the potential of any replacements to come into what I consider to be a negative powerblock of players.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Juric or Ros Aloisi would be good.

Don't know much about the first coach.

I've seen Aloisi coach. I've been under Jukic's tutelage in footbal workshops in National Conferences. Both impressive in different ways.
