+x+x+xget real, this is more a consequence of the A-league falling back to the field than anything else State NPL part-timers vs APL full time Youth League the A-league is part time in reality however for a time it had the better part timers than it can afford now Full time salaries for part time football.

+x+x+xBack to the topic, although I think the gap is a bigger than these initial games suggest (and I do believe local football quality is getting better), I reckon the gap will be closing soon though. I just read that from 2.65 million something like 530k is being given to clubs. The mismanagement should face consequences. tsf can you explain this a bit more or the link if you can still find it ? You've been here commenting on all this for months https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/crunch-meeting-to-decide-a-league-central-distribution-609370 oh yer snap my bad thanks mate, I won't say where my mind was at thinking elsewhere bout those figures how tsf exxplained it. All good on the page again haha

+x+x+x+x+xUsed to hate when they'd change my headlines there oh nice you wrote for them? What are your articles? Did a bit of stuff towards the end of uni (99.99% F1). Tried to do a comeback in 2020 during lockdown, but got the shits at them because they promoted everything else published that day on Apple News, except for my article. https://www.theroar.com.au/author/ncb619/ ah nice! Should write some footy! There is a couple little puff pieces I did. Something on VAR (first article) before it was actually brought in. (I can't even remember what I wrote haha) Something on us wogs supporting the wog country over Australia. Something on the football world forgetting about the Oceania Nations Cup during Euro 2016. ah nice, oceania just got decent after we left. It now has an automatic spot in the wc, extended club world cup, olympics and youth comps

I just read that from 2.65 million something like 530k is being given to clubs. The mismanagement should face consequences. The gap is huge, however if the NPL teams were training as much as the Aleague teams, the gap would be minimal. I think we all have mentioned its not apples with apples but the most telling divide at times to me is speed/fitness. Not huge but enough to look pedestrian for thats blettingly obvious even like for like top of table playing bottom of table. What I don't get is why the Aleague teams looks so slow against foreign opposition as both are full time. could be a length of season issue?

Some of these Aleague youngsters look massive compared to their age equivalent NPL players.

+x+x+x+x+xBack to the topic, although I think teh gap is a lot bigger than these initial games suggest (and I do believe local football quality is getting better), I reckon the gap will be closing soon though. I just read that from 2.65 million something like 530k I being given to clubs. The mismanagement should face consequences. Meanwhile South had 2.something mill in revenue this year and is predicting 4+ mill next year if NST goes ahead... makes you think eh? No doubt they are run better than a lot of professional sporting clubs in Australia How tasty would a MV V Hellas final (can't remember if possible) That is going to generate a lot of interest, and I reckon from Intersate would watch that too Obviously Im extremely biased but would have the makings of match for the ages... regardless of outcome. For South, the culmination of a tremendous 3 seasons and (hoping against hope) a clearer vision for the future of a national competition .... plus hopefully treble winners in Victoria by then ... playing Victory in a National final would be the crowing achievement of the past 20 years. For Victory, I mean c'mon, this will eclipse ANY possible rivalry they have in the Aleague.... Losing a final to South Melbourne will be more devastating to Melbourne Victory than finishing bottom of the table for 10 yeas in a row.... It would be great for the cup... Don't know mate, our trophy cabinets are groaning under the weight of all the new silverware ... don't know where we would fit another one. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

However, I think semi-final lineups are drawn so it could happen then. QUARTER FINAL PATHWAY:QF1: NWS Spirit or Melbourne Victory --VS-- Moreton City or Perth Glory QF2: Macarthur FC --VS-- Oakleigh Cannons or Heidelberg United QF3: Olympic Kingsway or Adelaide United --VS-- Lions FC or Western Sydney Wanderers QF4: Hume City FC or FC Melbourne Srbija --VS-- South Melbourne Either way, if we do get a Sth v MV final or GF, could the fuckwits please stay home. We just know there will be some, and it's not the type of interest we want to generate. Semi finals are drawn mate... Winner of QF 2 plays Winner of QF4 -- MV vs SMFC could well and truly happen :)

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x[quote]Their shouldn't be that much of a difference between top flight clubs and the NPL in cup games. As we all know ,cup games are far different to league games, where one off games are often referred to as " Banana skins ". The bottom rung of A leagues clubs should be snapping up NPL players and playing them, as there is no threat of relegation. But there are too many players mate.and not enough spots... thats the point..... Aleague clubs take a few sure (and put them on "scholarship" contracts wtf that means... but there are literally hundreds of pretty decent NPL players out there that reach 17-18 and go "right' I better get a job and keep playing part time ... whatever percentage of these kids (I dont know it could be 10 or it could be 100) have the talent to be Socceroos.... we are failing them. More often than not, they go. it's time to quit this football thing and get a stable secure job. Happened to a mate's brother about 10 years ago. Everyone was telling him to focus on the football as he definitely had potential, but his brain (and his parents) were telling him to get a degree and get a stable career. Funnily enough he did end up getting that elusive European contract in Spain, however it's as an engineer at a multi-national and not a as football player. Point is, he may have pursued that football career had the opportunities been there. He's fortunate in that his parents would have supported him either way, but not everyone has that luxury. Plenty of young guys simply can't take the risk. Especially now with the cost of living being what it is. Lucky we didn't have that mindset back in the 80s and 90s of the NSL days. Some things are worth the risk. Difference is the risk is way higher now. Cost of living increases haven't been matched by wage increases. It's a very different environment now. Not saying parents were rich back then, but they are definitely poorer now. I don't see the risk any different. At age 16-22 you're most likely living at home. And studying or working part time. Plenty of time to dedicate to training and trying to become a pro athlete. And see how far you can go. If you're in your mid 20s then yes, perhaps focus on another career. But 16-22ish, if you've given up on the sport, then you maybe didn't have what it takes to make it. Or maybe you are the only child of a single parent and need to actually contribute financially to the household costs. Definitely a rare exception to the rule. But still could work and play. As mentioned, just about the whole NSL worked fulltime and played. 4 sessions a week. Interstate games. 30+ games per season. Older players had families. 40hrs p/w work. Longer season than aleague at times. Where there is a will there is a way. yep no matter the era there is always exceptions to the rule, then and now. What I find more noticeable comparing then and now is, can do to can't do...... With so much intel that we as the consumer used to not see but do now we tend to follow so much what we're led to believe. Yet we recently had a record month of new car sales, all I hear from friends or my kids such and such has gone OS. Expensive not expensive units/house's keep selling, airports are flowing, cost of living is up but we keep spending. Yep where there is a will there is a way. Back on topic bought my Spirit vs MV ticks x 4, a great cash grab for a small local Club good luck to them, this is whats needed for the game below.

+x+x+x+xTheir shouldn't be that much of a difference between top flight clubs and the NPL in cup games. So the problem boils down to, not enough money for full time football, for say another eight clubs ? In a way you are right....If clubs arent able to participate on a national level there is a set limit on how much revenue they can expect to make from sponsors, partnerships, memberships, match day takings and advertising... No money coming in for the clubs means no money being paid to players... its not rocket science mate, I KNOW you understand how the whole thing works everywhere else in the world.... yes its right saying so financially but we really don't know the facts do we..... I think the bar set by the FA was too high, prob to cover their arse's but we got to start somewhere with the eyes wide open to a degree instead of fear of failure. Most of the aspiring NPL's have their good small grounds set, know their costs for so long barring looking ahead of renos if needed. All this Bond/and up front $$'s looked excessive to me but hey I'm just a armchair observer. We at NPL level don't need all the glitz and glamour, just need the ground up to decent standards with half undercover (most are), good general feed thats it. No pre or HT entertainment. I think there is quite a few willing sponsers jumping on board by the look of it Club by Club, even NPL2/3 Clubs have heaps of sponsers when you get to know the Clubs. So the additional costs would be the FT wages of a squad of say 18/20. The coach/asisstants/physio's/ground staff. Flights for eg Melb return x 30 is around $15k (at 500 a ticket qantas for eg so can be cheaper) someguyfc at the same time there are many well off parents as there is poorer ones if it makes sense. Walk around the grass roots carparks/NPL grounds shows people are spending despite all the doom and gloom.
