In a massive coup for Sydney FC they've signed a player with 13 million followers on Social media. And list it at the start of their announcement. Couldnt find any recent goal scoring info or match stats from them, but who cares when you tik tok like that https://sydneyfc.com/news/sydney-fc-sign-world-football-star-in-huge-coup-for-a-league/

Looks it's a big signing I don't know how he'll go on the pitch but it's something we should all be excited about

Decent about 8 years ago. Apparently flopped at LA. Good luck to him but you'll see him spending more time down the beach than on the pitch.

Yep lost it some time ago but he sure should be above dribbling by quite a few of the APL backs in between zumba zumba sessions on the bondi promanade for training. Maybe a surf as well.

"set to illuminate the A-League for the next two seasons, like no one before him. "
" the eyes of the football world will be on Sydney FC and the A-League this season"
"With over 13 million followers worldwide, the 33-year-old has a larger social media presence than Sam Kerr, Pat Cummins, Nick Kyrgios, Ben Simmons, Reece Walsh, Dustin Martin and Alexander Volkanovski, with only Australian sports stars such as cricketer David Warner and Formula One driver Daniel Riccardo having a comparable online status."

brazilian players have a habit of burning out and peaking early in their careers. Hopefully see some decent games from him

Play it low key and let the performance on the park speak, yer put it out there but...... From the couch he sure should have the skillset to beat most of the fullbacks he's going to face compared to what he's faced over his career, 34yrs you still should be able to play a game no worries with his so called over hyped pedigree. He ain't no 39yr old ADP level thats for sure. tsf's post is spot on, why is most of our football press release's so cringe, makes us look desparate for headlines.

I don't think this one has much anti a-league sentiment to be fair. I mean the bloke is 34 in a few weeks and literally is past it.
I really hope he can't beat any of the young Aussie full backs he comes up against and further proves the growing level of the a-league.

It’s a risk but it could be an exciting addition to the league, he’s had he’s injury issues but the quality is still here.

I'll reserve judgement until he actually kicks a competitive ball. However, wouldn't be at all surprised if this ends up being another Sturridge situation. Statistically we can pretty much rule out SFC from winning any silverware next season. Whenever an A-League club signs a 'big' marquee, they always fall flat when it comes to results. I wonder if this signing was forced onto Talay as the clubs try to get more people/money through the gates. Could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like the type of signing Talay would be seeking out.

I seem to recall with all the titles and NT/Port resume it was all coming for MV re Nani as well.... The club marketing dept need their reigns pulled in for the record shows most times its a fail but the exceptions. Studgz was always going to be a fail, what a move by PG, stoopid banking on hope. From my observations it seems the lesser known lights shine so to speak and not surprising espcially here once grounded. That SFC/Adrian was a friggin class act when I watched him, his footwork/skill was way above the AL level. Ninko was no huge name but class once on the pitch. Brioch say no more.

Would be excited if a headline appeared that ‘A league club signs player with years of Top 5 European league experience’ or something really substantial along those lines. I couldn’t care less about social media followers numbers?! I care about some proven quality players entering the AL instead

But judging by that press release they've signed Messi meets Taylor Swift...

+xThis is like someone is taking the piss... Read the caption and then witness the evidence I saw this & took this with a grain of salt. However, we complain that the A-League does not promote, here we have the A-league promoting. This is the first player signing that I have seen on mainstream TV for the A-League this season, so already this is a good thing. Douglas Costa is a seriously good player, I saw him a lot when the great man Ronaldo was playing with him in Juve, he is a serious baller, that was only 3-4 years ago The fact that at 33 years of age he is in the A-League does show that yes injuries, attitude, commitment maybe not there, who knows. Will he succeed or fail, I certainly don't know as some of you posters (not you TSF), who are all already calling him a failure. All I know for a fact is some of my mates are now interested in coming to SFC to see him play, whereas last season even with free tickets I couldn't get them to come. Now if Dustin Martin does sign for Manly Warringah Wolves for next season Sydney AFL would I go & watch, don't think so, I would go WHO? The beauty of A-League off Fox sports, I now have no Foxsports, but Stan, Optus & Paramount & proud to say I cannot tell you one AFL player.

Points taken. One thing I will guarantee is he will score against MV and this post will be bumped again - hence my reluctance to condemn or judge him lol. TSF, I hope he does score MV. I too will wait to judge. For the sake of the A-League I hope he succeeds & puts egg on some of these bitter faces on here. I don't think people are being bitter. More taking the piss at what is some really silly statements I support the A-league and would love to see football being successful in Australia in all forms, but I will also call it out when we need to get better. Well said and welcome back robbos good to see you posting I was watching the Olympics LFC. Looks like Liverpool have started well under new manager. Best Olympics since 00 imo wasn’t it great. As you know long way to go but 2 on the bounce can’t complain. Lfc sorry to change the subject but you need to check out the interview with beintez on the overlap YouTube it's fascinating

As LFC will tell you, Liverpool not my fav team, but Klopp didn't have the financial backing of the 'boot room managers' where Liverpool were the Man City of the 80s, both in terms of winning trophies & financial powerhouse.

He succeeded at Liverpool, not to Klopp level, but did well, he failed miserably in the biggest club in the world, as a matter of fact probably the worst manager there in recent memory, maybe that clouded his judgement. What is " Klopp level " ? Compared to the boot room managers, he was pretty much a flop. As LFC will tell you, Liverpool not my fav team, but Klopp didn't have the financial backing of the 'boot room managers' where Liverpool were the Man City of the 80s, both in terms of winning trophies & financial powerhouse. oi 70's and 80's :) my correction and yes overlooked your biggest club statement for yes thats LFC not RM haha but yer he failed there. We're pretty harsh but thats us armchair devotees. Oh look out Sutho joined the party :) we're all good eh even though I'm 17,040.49klms away from Anfield lol....... Yes Boot Room was in the "zone" those days as robbos mentions we had it all and definately one of THE Clubs those 2 decades as you all know. Sutho for clarity who was the flop ? Rafa or Klopp ? He wasn't called " Klopp the flop " for nothing. Haha yer to most non supporters more so for they disliked seeing LFC be strong again and yes fail at some stages of his tenure luving to put the boot in so to speak. Some and I mean some LFC supporters disliked his throw everything at it kind of game instead of closing up shop but overall he’s been brilliant for the Club/Liverpool and the game…… You can’t have it all but it’s been an awesum 9yrs overall I’d re live it again in a heart beat compared to the fits and starts of years before.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xThis is like someone is taking the piss... Lfc sorry to change the subject but you need to check out the interview with beintez on the overlap YouTube it's fascinating Yeah I heard he rated Gerrard better than Ronaldo, I did laugh!!!! Manchester City are not a patch on Liverpool of the 70's and 80's. For a start, Liverpool up until Dalglish was the manger, rarely if ever bought 2 players in a season. Most seasons they won the league and European cup with a squad of 16 or less.

I dont think any of the "bitter faces" will know if he has scored or not Robbo ... maybe the rest of the football world will be talking about it so much that the thousands of fans busting down the turnstiles to see old Dougie will make enough noise that they will save the Aleague for ya... good luck.

Unlike you, I am a football fan ahead of my little old club, so I'm rooting for the revolutionised 4 team competition, play each other 10 times & all teams straight to semis. Lets go, you got me interested, maybe not in any teams, but I'm all for revolutions in football in this country because nothing else seems to work.

Good luck to Douglas. Hopefully he still has some long range bombs in that left foot of his like he did in around Football Manager 2010.
I just am a much bigger supporter of the Central Coast type of model that is investing in local grassroots talent sprinkled in with shrewd well scouted overseas players with a point to prove. I believe this bodes well for the future of the game rather than investing in cringe clickbait.
In saying that I will also be very happy if he does a Joe Lolley and absolutely tears it up!

He actually done better than you expect - lost good players brought in some cracker players and did win 4 Cups but also went through a woeful ownership period. robbos Souness/Woy and KK mk2 had worse win ratio than Rafa incl BR. Anyway lets get back on topic as much as I enjoy this subject :)

I know he was bright in Liverpool. :w00t:

One who now is a Bundas undefeated Champ gaffa. I'll give him more cred he believes SG is better than CR7 hahaha box to box absolutely :)

General consensus is we might see Douglas at Macarthur in 2 years, or will he return, that might be a bit leyte? Must admit there's somthing about a pre season Brazilian signing that gets you enthusiastic again about being a SFC fan..
