+x+xI find it funny how we're talking afl and not the Australia cup, socceroos etc Because its' a thread about AFL world domination? Good for a laugh. Fair enough. I wonder a world where the two sports were on better terms. It's like that since I was at school tho you had the footy and the football group and for some reason there was attitude to it. I follow both so never really understood the hostility

I follow both so never really understood the hostility I think much of the hostility is down to Demitriou and ‘ Eddie everywhere ‘ who shut down any attempt by various football administrations to schedule tournaments or share facilities in ‘footy territory’. Although if this has been going on since before those two were able to influence governments it’s probably for the same reasons.

Meanwhile A $600m deal with the federal government has confirmed Papua New Guinea as the NRL’s 19th team. News Corp first reported a deal between the NRL and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s government has been “agreed in principle”.The deal will send shockwaves across Australian rugby league with controversial plans for a team to be based out of Port Moresby now set to go ahead. I've never sat down and looked at actual numbers but $600m gov deal compared to what may be invested into women's football post WWC. Quick google search shows $15m go build on the post tournament success. Pales in comparison.

+xAFLw crowds have dropped as much as the a league Kind of makes the decades old argument of "there's no soccer coverage in media because the crowds small and nobody cares" full of crap. Yet AFLW gets 8 pages worth of coverage in Vic newspapers.

I wonder a world where the two sports were on better terms. It's like that since I was at school tho you had the footy and the football group and for some reason there was attitude to it. I follow both so never really understood the hostility that's because you live in Melbourne. You'll find the Sydney and Brisbane dwellers will be silent on NRL vs football. Yeah the "sokkah journoes" up there only like one type of footy :P https://x.com/VinceRugari/status/1832284771898331577?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet I've been out and about these last couple of weeks, with both snr & jnr presentations for my local club, even a party for old blokes like me, golf, work, Trivia nights in clubs & Coffee shops & I've heard very little discussion on the great Sydney Derby in the AFL finals, till this day I don't know who won. Would you like to be told robbos? Tell you the truth not really. AFL in Sydney is a bit like NRL in Melbourne. Although the swans are the highest attended team in NSW. If it helps Melbourne Storm are the highest attended team at AAMI park..... hahahahahah LOL, I'd say the bulk of swanette crowd are typical east sydney s nobs/many ex pats who prob have new season Swan and SFC kits to mix and match :) oh o look out from you know who. I take it you are a Westie, LFC , if not , you sound very Boganish. Cheers, You know who. LFC comes from the upper North Shore, very upper, no Boganish about him. It's just AFL, even in the Northern beaches it just doesn't exist. There seem to be at least 12 AFL clubs in Northern Sydney area alone. https://aflsj.com.au/club-information/sydney-north/vs 6 x NRL clubs in the whole of Melbourne https://www.nrlvic.com/clubs It's still tiny, driving around in winter to see football clubs & everyone kicking a football around, very rarely would you see those 4 posts used in AFL on the grounds, I'm sure there is, but nothing in comparison to football. Pubs are showing the NRL & AFL on their TVs, nothing on Football, I see the patrons watching NRL but not AFL even the Sydney Derby, I saw very little interest. People in Sydney play football & watch NRL, & football (not A-League) in the national teams.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI find it funny how we're talking afl and not the Australia cup, socceroos etc Because its' a thread about AFL world domination? Good for a laugh. Fair enough. MSC as we all know our city dynamics are poles apart and your afl sydney link checking it out had me damn surprised for near on 7 of those clbs are within my driving circles regularly, christ never even knew they existed - I know of 1 afl ground with cricket pitch near Drummoyne as for those other clubs buggered if I know where they play. A few others are around robbos area and as he says you rarely spot those uneven no crossbar posts. As for melb lack of nrl clubs, are we not surprised. Therefore comparing the 2 cities by club entities alone shows our city is more "inclusive" as they say today haha yer do they have rainbow flags hehe, probably anything to gain traction.

I guess Canberra is the best place to really make this comparison in hey. But still, ThA SokkAh will wipe the floor with participation, but our Chief Minister has committed $3m in an election promise to fund a Big Bash franchise coming to Canberra, so go figure. Anything that uses his Manuka Oval baby for - if this BBL thing happens - 8 times a year, rather than finding solutions for an updated rectangular stadium to house the already existing Rugby League and Rugby Union side (and apparently incoming A-League side), and a possible neutral venue for the Australia Cup
