+xHe played at lower levels (league 1) once he was older sure but first 10 years of his career was at either top flight or 2nd division. Need to remember the top flight (Premier league) was called '1st division' til 92/93, and then from that point til I believe 02/03 2nd flight (the championship) was called first division. So all in all he played 4 seasons of Premier league level, and 7 seasons of championship level. And most of those 7 seasons at championship level were either promotion or challenging promotion. How many Australian footballers played more 4 seasons or more, in the big 5 or champions league sides? Not many. His cv puts him above Muscat, Popa, Foster, Murphy, Tiatto, foxe, Mcgree, Richard Garcia and Harry Souttar and a host of other famous socceroos who had/have had lengthy careers in England. And how many of the current socceroos have played that many seasons or more at that level? Only Ryan and Leckie, that's it. I remember seeing him on TV playing for Luton(?) He wasn't that good. Big, ran about a lot, limited skills.

The fact that no other Aussie in any era would have made that Liverpool side, tells you all you need to know. No, Kewell , would not have.

+x+x+x+x+xThe guys who come to mind are Viera, Johnston, Dorigo, Simunic, Seric, Didulica and Dykes. Fantastic players but only including guys that weren't capped by other nations. Johnston wasn't capped by another nation, just elected club over country Johnston make a silly comment at 17 years old that 'playing football was like surfing for England' & this was held against him. IMO, he more than most was the little Aussie made it big in the UK playing for the Man City of the Day, Liverpool, lots of people started following Liverpool because of Johnston & even I followed the shit club for a while. They like Man City now, brought the competition in the 80s & changed football in the UK. Liverpool in the 80s, Man U in the 90s eraly 2000s & now Man City just brought all the players & provided us with unequal competitions. No more Notts Forest Div 2 winners, the Div 1 winners the following year & European Champions the year after that. They say money talks The Man City of the day comment is absolute bollocks. Liverpool typically bought one or two players per season up until about 1986, by that time , they were on a slow downward trajectory. Stick to the facts, not your hatred of a club in a foreign land to you. I will help you with this link https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=1563&teamTabs=transfers

Some interesting players on that list, a shame they didn’t get an opportunity to play for the Socceroos.

+x+x+x+x+xDoesnt exactly qualify as he WAS capped but how Con Boustianis only got 4 caps (one as a late sub) for the Socceroos is baffling.. 4 goals from 4 appearances (Although three where during that 31-0 American Samoa genocide) Good shout, criminally underrated player. Watched a YouTube compilation of him recently. Had a rocket launcher for a shot 🤔 HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH Yeah, I'm not sure whether BOH's initial comment was intentional humour or not!!! Hahaha unintentional on my part! Completely forgot about that saga!

They say money talks Roo wouldn't couldn't have - been one of our best mids of the times but niave 17yr old with heaps of pressure bad case of flippant foot mouth desease that yes the mud stuck. Hard days travelling then and clubs hate letting players go as well, pioneer you could say but he was alone, LFC would have been constantly in his ears, they sooner he play for England than Roos might I add. Would have luved seeing him play for us, would have been a beast. Football even back in those 1st Div days had the have's and nots, cinderella's now and then back then but no more this is the times. vincen Karem was never gonna have anything stable sadly.

If Karem wasn't caught up in off field drama and had a stable foundation he could have been one of our best strikers we've ever had.

+x+xI'd go with Galekovic in goal, backed by Caravella, Wilkshire, Vukovic, and Wilkshire in defense. O'Neill, McKay, and Carle would make a solid midfield trio, supporting Volpato and Kalik up front, with McBreen and Reinaldo as the striking duo. In the 2nd XI, Theoklitos would take the keeper spot, with Mrcela, Ansell, Lowry, and Rose in defense. Galekovic, wilkshire, Vukovic and wilkshire all capped so too oneill mckay and carle. Didnt Theo get a cap too (I could swear I remember him sitting on the bench for Roos game)???

+xDoes anyone know why David Oldfield never played for the socceroos? Played 4 seasons in the English top flight and 7 seasons in the 2nd flight yet never played for Australia. his resume looks a bit weak tbh (scroll down to the table) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Oldfield_(footballer)

There would probably be a big list of non-NSW players from the 60's and 70's when team selection heavily favoured NSW players. That was before my time though.

Actually I've forgotten Christophe Teinert
