Almost guaranteed that the FA go with an Aussie coach. No chance are they splashing cash on a high name coach when the talent available is sub-par. If they were smarter, they would splash the cash on someone who would come in and not just coach the national team, but develop the youth pathways so we have talent on a production line for time to come.
We also need a new Matildas coach, so I can't see us going for a big name. I also have absolutely no faith that the guys at the top of the FA have any idea of what they are doing.

Monty seems like a decent set up. He knows a lot of the A League players, can band a team together, is currently at Spurs so can chat to Ange and Jedinak about it all. We've got to remember how awesome his teams performed under him. Decent football at both ends of the pitch. The question is wether he's an international manager or better suited to club football.

+x+x+x+x+x+xGet Zoran Markovski in.... Socceroos will be rolling around on the ground like Middle Easterners in no time :P lol I'm only half-joking, we are not getting some super big name. Maybe we look local micro, someone who knows the region...Papas etc. Interim basis I'd be surprised if Muscat would take it on. I wouldn't if I was him. Id be happy-ish with Musacat but agree it would be a poison chalice with the players we have.... makes more sens for him to keep going in Asia so he gest another jump into Eur club land if thats what the dream is... Definitely not an easy gig to walk into for an Aussie coach right now. Not only would they be well aware of the cattle available, they also know what kind of scrutiny they will be experiencing. A foreign coach doesn't have that same problem. They can come in do a good/average/poor job and then walk away. An Aussie coach has to hear about their results well beyond the job is over. Someone mentioned in another thread that these Chinese contracts have pretty high exit fees. Even if the FA wanted Muscat, he may be out of reach financially. From memory he is also on $3.8M per year in China, so he would need to take a big pay cut for the Socceroos job. Yeah very true I’d hate to be managing the team. Our attack is one of the worst in the group and the rest of the team is 2nd tier Europe at best reckon our defense is pretty good tbh but agree we are weak in attack years of foreigners clogging up attacking positions means we have produced better defenders than attackers with the exception of rb well Graz if you think our defense isn't too bad lets see against better opponents we shall see the coming games. China despite not being ranked that great will give us a run for the money but Japan, well IF they are ON their game they should tear us open if not I'll be a monkeys uncle.

I don't subscribe to the theory next coach has a dull attack that's bs. It's the way we setup our system no creativity, to many similar players, and players can't express there flair. 3 DM against Bahrain prime example. So many coaches get minnows playing good football with nobody's.

Hjulmand isn't really bad. His end at Denmark was down but the early times he did especially well. We're really at a results stage now so that's all that counts to get things back on track. Not much need for prettiness just yet.

Has he ever beaten an Australian team? Absolutely detest him, his style, his antics and his results.

+xHas he ever beaten an Australian team? Absolutely detest him, his style, his antics and his results. 1:0 final qualifier but a dead rubber and a dodgy night. Perhaps his antics and the Saudi antics worked so well together. I wonder how much of a decent tactician he is vs a motivator. Similar to Arnold in that some good fortune allowed a big WC victory but the other two games were dire.

Regardless what coach, I want to see a change in a way we play and show adaptability when it comes to higher level opponents.
With Ange he played one style of football but struggled against top teams, with Arnie he also played one style of football but also struggled against low level teams.
Thats the balance the FA must strike going forward with the new national coach.

We have a TD don't we? Perhaps what we need is a head coach that will work with the TD to achieve this. Does our TD do anything?

+xJoachim Löw? Could be dull but pragmatic given the situation. I think he'd be great. Apparently he's interested in the England job though, but could you see the English appointing a German? Then again they might be getting desperate enough to win something. Same article says Ange might be sounded out so probably usual quality British journalism, actually there's a cast of thousands mentioned ... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13645279/Former-German-national-team-coach-Joachim-Low-interested-England-job.html

I know he is a bit unknown, but Jon Brady has done well at Northampton. Would be a step up though but think he could do alright. Would never happen, but i think Alen Stajcic could do a good job as well.
Foreigner wise, I would look at Jorge Sampaoli. Wouldn't be against Renard, but would not be my first choice.

Ufuk Talay. Aussie, knows the players, proven at aleague level to be able to build and motivate a team, can choose players with skills and employs strategies and tactics in games. Poached from an aleague club is nothing new either.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Had a shiver and a shudder. Tony Vidmar?
Popovic I know enough about but hear a lot of bad. Might fewer games be just the recipe where he needs to get it right just once instead of regular continuity like at a club?

+xFucking read Neil Lennon for a second then. Haha Yeah i think arnie and popa are great coaches but i am really hoping that we get a crowd pleaser for the next coach Sick of the negativity, sucks (some of) the joy out of following the roos. So if we get a coach that gets the fans excited, even if not better, that would be a good outcome

Poppa is the lazy and easy option and shows the FFA don't understand the football landscape. So many great coaches abroad how do these minnows find them.

+xRenard because he has great hair. Renard out! Want to be first. My disdain for that POS verges on irrational hatred. Maybe we could look at the world rankings/awards and see if there is anybody there we could get? https://www.fifa.com/en/news/articles/the-best-mens-coach-award-2023-nominees

Talk of Mancini leaving the Saudi's with Renard lined up as the replacement.
I have a feeling we will end up with Popovic.
