Maybe we look local micro, someone who knows the region...Papas etc. Interim basis I'd be surprised if Muscat would take it on. I wouldn't if I was him.

Rene on an interim basis. Muscat would be my preferred choice but not sure he'd be keen.

Popovic Muscat Kewell Nick Montgomery <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mark Jackson Poppa Musky HK forget em. Montgomery stands out here for me IF going by another Aussie. Renard is a very good mention, be curious what salary but would be pittance compared what he got from the ME I suspect.
Love Football

Mark Van Bommel (who was the Socceroos assistant coach in 2018) being mentioned too.
I also wonder what René Meulensteen will do now that Arnie is gone? Will he toss his name into the hat, stay as assistant or move on?

Id be happy-ish with Musacat but agree it would be a poison chalice with the players we have.... makes more sens for him to keep going in Asia so he gest another jump into Eur club land if thats what the dream is... As for NPL coaches, eh.... no real shiniing light to be honest... Nick tolio maybe a bit more attacking and stute than Papas but they are far far too green for tsuch an imortant role.. We need a older, wise head... doesnt have to be Aussie.... There are DOZENS of good managers out there (90% of them from former Yugoslavian countries :) ) that wilol get us qualified, blood some youth and give FA the chance to start the ball rolling again on player development and a Manager with vision for the future...

Definitely not an easy gig to walk into for an Aussie coach right now. Not only would they be well aware of the cattle available, they also know what kind of scrutiny they will be experiencing. A foreign coach doesn't have that same problem. They can come in do a good/average/poor job and then walk away. An Aussie coach has to hear about their results well beyond the job is over. Someone mentioned in another thread that these Chinese contracts have pretty high exit fees. Even if the FA wanted Muscat, he may be out of reach financially. From memory he is also on $3.8M per year in China, so he would need to take a big pay cut for the Socceroos job.

worried any new coach will struggle to know our personnel
I also doubt we get a world class coach, so almost surely a step sideways

Our attack is one of the worst in the group and the rest of the team is 2nd tier Europe at best

Ex Canada manager John Herdman at Toronto now. He seemed to get way more out of limitations and inspire players to want to play international football for Canada.
It probably needs to be someone with some. Asian knowledge but more so respect.
