It is a shame that we can never see the team that won our league playing in this competition. That is just the way of it; but Mariners are a shadow of the team they were to qualify for the competition. Buriram were sharp and controlled and played excellent football. A real quality outfit regardless of the exaggerated 'injuries' we have come to expect. Mariners were beaten in every aspect of the game. I am interested to see how Mariners go in the aleague this season. Watching that team play and comparing it to last season's team and form I can't imagine them doing well - but it is preseason still. Not blaming him for anything, but Alou Kuol does not seem to make the grade for me. I just don't rate him above a decent squaddie. Not someone you can build victories around.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Got to add - the way Buriram controlled the ball and picked up the second phase play was impressive. We have been trying for years to get some value out of balls headed/skimmed on and invariably the ball goes to the opposition. Buriram used it exceptionally well, and rarely lost the ball when they did it. They always had a few passing options for the ball carrier and their cohesion was quite fantastic. It is no surprise that they are winning games 7-0 and 6-0 in their domestic league.

It was always to be hard for the mariners as it is when they in pre season and not playing regular matches in any case but it doesn’t help they have lost so many good players to overseas so the squad turnover was always going to be a factor.
At least they got some good young prospects coming through such as Tapp, Brantman, De Lima etc to bring through whilst keeping some of that core around.
Another problem replacing Vuka will be hard, two unproven keepers which won’t be easy to replace the former.
I think they going to a tougher season so hopefully their fans could ease off with their expectations because it won’t be easy.

I havent watched any of this game but will hunt down highlights tonight...

I was trying to work out who CCM had lost from last season? Farrell from LB and Ballard from mid. Who else? Agree they seemed a shadow from their previous team. I was a bit concerned at the lack of a large Aussie based domestic contingent.

I've only watched 25 mins so far. CCM played at a slower tempo, as opposed to more of the fast counter attacks I saw them play last season. The slower tempo didn't seem to work very well in those 25 mins.
CCM played too many square and straight balls in possession as opposed to diagonal passes. Square balls enable a player to receive with effective body shape and scan the field simultaneously to play forwards, but they make little territorial gain in build ups.
Straight balls make it difficult for the receiver to receive and scan the field simultaneously if marked by an opponent. Straight balls are a good course of action if a player is unmarked, but the CCM players often were, hence they could only play bounce passes backwards to their own goal.

Just realised Vuko wasn't in goal either.
Was the CCM crowd sufficient for an ACL game? It seemed a bit small.

Nisbet from AM,Hall from CB and Torres LW/RW( he is facing criminal charges and has been cut by the club). Also Tulio ( RW and sometimes striker or AM)left half way through last season to go to a Japanese club.Jing Reec( substitute striker) has joined Victory. You have already mentioned Vukovic.
