Wow didn't realise McGarry was close to citizenship. Worth keeping then IMO. I'd give him Cordobas spot (despite Mattias being the better of the two at the end of the season) if he is to continue on as an Aussie from 2014. Age would be a factor but unlike Dodd (for instance) McGarry still plays a complete game and runs hard. Probably one of the few lucky enough to age well.

Now into the nitty gritty of who to re-sign or let go: Hopefully re-sign Nagai - guy is a gun and fits in well with Edwards' approach and philosophy, including being a young, energetic player of strong technique who can create. If Glory can't hang on, then they need to utilise that VISA spot on another Winger of similar ilk. Seeing Nagai in action reminds how Glory have missed that kind of speed and quality on the wing, especially with the likes of Heffernan out there. Re-sign: Miller - 1 season, Jamieson - 1/2 seasons, Zahra - 1 season, Cordoba - 1 season and Re-sign Ward - club veteran, good for squad depth rotation. flexable player, can be used across the midfield and even as striker. And with Glory's history of injuries, such players are needed. The Nick Ward of these days can't be too expensive either, one should think. Depart: Despite saying the above of Ward - Let Heffernan go - He'd be relatively expensive, especially for just a squad player and his contribution has been decidedly mixed. He only features more recently due to injuries to Dodd, Zahra and others. Glory need space in the cap and squad for better defensive cover too - as was again reflected this season. Panta gone - been a fillin CB too long and time and time again exposed as such, including the penalty against Victory. Being a recruit from over east, and his age range, Glory could do a bit better, with an out and out CB from elsewhere. Glory have been slumming it in their defensive stocks far too long (Since Todd and then C.Coyne absent/left). Berger can go too, to make way for another young local to bolster the squad in an area of need. ?: McGarry is a tricky one - I thought Glory could do better than McGarry, VISA spot wise, for quite a while, but he's consistently been one of Glory's better players especially this season, even when times are tough, and I've discovered that IF Glory re-sign him for next season, then entering into 2014 he will be eligible for Aussie Citizenship. Given his form and perhaps the consideration that he may be on the cheaper side, especially with his age now and leadership and experience he brings - Why not re-sign him for that 1 more year? Then have him as an Aussie that 1 more season after, especially if/when the experience of Dodd, Burns and co inevitable leave/retire as I believe they will, end of their contracts next season. Then again he'll be pushing into mid 30s by then aswell! What do you guys reckon, on McGarry? Edited by Gloryperth: 6/4/2013 04:48:31 AM

I called us signing Jammo last year, but i'm all out of ideas this time around  This question needs bumping, now Glory's season is over, and I'll 'attempt' to answer it, via Official/FFA Sites and articles: Contracts expiring end of season/still to be negotiated: CM - Liam Miller Glory signs Liam Miller - 3/6/2011 - VISA DF - Steve Pantelidis Perth Glory re-sign key duo - 4/5/2012FB/M - Dean Heffernan Perth Glory re-sign key duo - 4/5/2012W/FB - Evan Berger Berger To Beef Up Glory Stocks - 18/12/2010W - Adrian Zahra PG Snap Up Starlets - 30/4/2012CM - Steve McGarry PG resign Steve McGarry - 9/5/2012 - VISA CM - Matias Cordoba Matias Cordoba joins PG - 6/2/2013 - VISA CM - Nick Ward Nick Ward return home - 27/4/2012W - Ryo Nagai - Season long loan - Hopefully we can re-sign on loan or even permanently, though latter would be unlikely you'd think? Takes a VISA spot. LB - S. Jamieson (12/13) PG adds former Sydney defender Scott Jamieson to squad - 17/5/2012 - Odd, For some reason I thought he was on 2 season deal, but unless Glory I missed an anouncement of Glory re-signing him, it seems he's still to re-negotiate for next season? Players with contracts continuing into next season (13/14) atleast: AM - T.Dodd (Till end of this season - Option for 1 season extension) Glory finally nabs Dodd - 1/3/2011DM - J. Burns (13/14) Jacob Burns and Billy Mehmet sign new two-year deals to stay in A-League with Perth Glory - 27/2/2012GK - D. Vukovic (13/14) Vukovic joined PG on 3 season deal - 14/12/2010ST - S. Smeltz (13/14) Glory days ahead for Smeltz - 20/3/2011CB - M. Thwaite (13/14) Sydney target Perth Glory defender Michael Thwaite, sign Sheffield Wednesday junior Jarrod Kyle - 13/2/2013W - C. Harold (13/14) PG Snap Up Starlets - 30/4/2012CB - J. Clisby (13/14) Clisby Elevated - 22/1/2013CM - B. O'Neill (13/14) Glory rewards young duo - 2/5/2012ST - N. Makeche (13/14) Glory rewards young duo - 2/5/2012GK - N. Young (13/14) Perth snaps up Young - 28/2/2011AM - D. De Silva (14/15) De Silva signs for PG - 21/2/2013FB - M. Davies (15/16) Glory Legend Welcomes Young Stars - 6/3/2013FB - R. Woodcock (15/16) Glory Legend Welcomes Young Stars - 6/3/2013FB - J. Risdon (15/16) Risdon signs long term deal - 3/4/2013I hope I have all of the above correct. Others about the senior squad are NYL players on NYL deals, including Roux, Italiano, Quaqua and Higgins. I listed them by contract expiry date. Listed the positions so people know where our squad will be short if some of those off-contracts don't re-sign - which positions Glory will need to strengthen.

That Wellington game was a terrible day, it seemed like the players didnt want it(something we generally don't suffer from), preety shite atmosphere too.
Let's hope we can impress the crowd and get a win on Saturday.

Resenting our lapse against Wellington. Had we won that we would have already qualified for the finals by now (barring a 10 goal turnaround on GD and Jets beating WSW)
Oh well, finals start early. Nervous but have belief in our ability to knock off Adelaide in Perth.

Hating the log jam on the table leading into the final week for the season
4 does not go into 2
My guess is Brisbane and Scum FC will take the 2 spots available

Can't wait to see who Edwards goes for in the off season.
I know that 2 of these 3 are under contract elsewhere, but I'd love to see us sign Gameiro, Matty Simon and Billy Celeski. Keeping Nagai would be fantastic too! Two others that are pipe dreams are Patty Kisnorbo and Suree Sukha, the Thai RB/RM, he's an absolute machine!
Matty hasn't had a look in at Chunnum, Gamerio will likely be released at the end of the season, and if Billy was available, I reckon a nice little pay rise might convince him to come back.
Some strong options then even if we lose Smeltz and Burns retires.

Us, Sydney FC, Melbourne Heart and the Jets are fighting for that one spot

How much shade is that roof going to provide when the sun is setting in the west? #-o Its more than likely Glory will play in the evenings (7pm between December and February), or early evenings (5pm onwards in March) to stop people getting skin cancer Although! the sunny side of the ground is usually where the camera is facing anyway in most football grounds in the world. Gosford, Sydney FC etc etc. Except they get cloudy days in those parts of the world

Hopefully the new stand is not a white elephant, it is the skin cancer side of the ground at 3-4pm
Or will Glory be playing all their games in the evenings?

Edited by JDW: 9/2/2013 09:31:22 PM Perhaps a tad optimistic to say done by then, but it is supposed to be completed by the 23rd which is the first force home game. So maybe not done by the 2nd, but as you can see some seats are being put in, if there could be 15k seats in by march 2nd (another 4k) then it could have a great atmosphere. Actually it could be done or at least very close in 2 weeks It is possible, it is scheduled to be completed in March and so far everything has run ahead of schedule, i have a feeling we will just miss it though for the Sydney game. Yeah you'd think they'd have given the guy a 6-game guest contract instead of looking overseas for an unfit 18 year old.
I think he's a few years away from being naturalised as well. At least 2

But either way he seems a hot, leading talent upfront in the WA State League and it may be worth glory giving him a shot? Heck, wider terms, Edwards and Naven SHOULD do 'A Poppa' and during early pre-season do an extended camp perusing all the leading local stars, young and old, with a view to recruiting 2-3 for the 2013-14 season. Poppa did this with Wanderers, hence the signing of West Sydney State League local, Jason Trifiro and West Sydney based Joey Gibbs. I guess Poppa had the advantage of building a team from scratch, but Glory are clearly undergoing a revamp, semi-clear out and so there will be plenty spots free, including 1-2 VISA ones, to trial many players in that early to mid pre-season period, both local talents and those from overseas. Edited by Gloryperth: 13/2/2013 06:10:18 PM Gustavo is Colombian, and has been training with the Glory for some time. So he is certainly on the radar.
