Mclarren was promising towards the end there. Looking forward to seeing Griffiths play in Burns spot next week. Burns and Mcgarry too slow.

The central midfield positions need to be resolved because at this stage it the stand out achilles heel. Burns is liabilty, Mcgarry struggling, Cam Edwards is shit and his brother is slightly better but none of his team mates will pass to him...

It was awesome fun. The GFU guys just kept going and we only sang louder as the goals kept going in  Credit to the players for coming over and thanking us. Particularly Gallas who spent the longest with fans after the game.

Reports and the stats are saying we were comprehensively outplayed in the first half when the damage was done. The usual bland Burns response in today's Worst. Stats are damning again, thrashed in possession, in aerial duels, corners, shots on goal (21 to 10), etc. As always, they don't give the full story, because we canned them in offsides and yellow cards.
Moving right along to Victory this Friday night. After successive 5 - Nil losses and their top 4 hopes under threat, they just may come to play.

It was bad, but not all bad.
Vukovich was excellent, as were Thwaite and Gallas. Woodcock was pretty good and a bit unlucky/naive for the penalty. Risdon needs a bit more time. Harold was lively, Sidnei was ok, but end product was poor. Smeltz worked pretty hard - laughed at the end when he lost it and asked for the ball to be given to him on the deck! So much long ball just handing possession straight back to them. Doesn't take Einstein to see that midfield was the big problem,
Surely time to break up the old boys club. McGarry actually had a bit of a shocker, Burns did his usual thing (not much), Edwards' passing was mostly v good (a few mistakes), but doesn't demand the ball enough and he won't appeal to those fans who want to see their mids 'putting in a shift'. I still think with better passing players around him (who weren't instrumental in sacking his dad) he could be good for us as the linking CM. Difficult for all mids with such a good team press against them, we caught holding on to the ball for too long on many occasions.
Marinkovich looked ok didn't he? Put him in at #10 with Griffiths and one other mid (McGarry or CEdwards) and actually try to play through midfield a bit more and we could be a lot better.

Whats everyone's thoughts on the formation Kenny is going to play considering the 3 new signings he has got this week. Marinkovic ( AM) Griffiths ( DM ) Sernas ( Striker)
Considering Smeltz is a certain starter ( as he should be atm) The only way I see us playing all the new players is going back to good old 4-4-2.
My formation Vuka Ridson - Thwaite - Gallas - Woodcock Harold - Marinkovic - Griffiths - Sidnie Smeltz - Sernas
Personally I don't think this is too bad of a line up. But can't see it happening as this would also mean dropping some of the old guard/coaches. But you don't sign 2 players and 1 loan to sit on the bench.

Sure you do... Not ready yet, etc. Or they need to prove themselves.
I reckon you'll see Edwards dropped, the Serb come in behind the striker with McGarry/Burns behind him, and Sernas and Griffiths on the bench to begin with, to be subbed on later.
Well, it wouldn't surprise me anyway.

I reckon he might try Sernas as a wide forward, possibly to come on for Harold or even Sidnei (work those 3 into the 2 spots). Presumably Sernas will not be fit yet, so will probably be in off the bench for a bit.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me anyway. Going to be very very interesting as Burns and Griffith effectively play the same role so unless Kennys thinking of playing him in a different position they will be vying off of for the 1 spot. the attacking midfield role is also a lottery.

Nothing against either of them, but holding a player to a lower level of on field scrutiny because of their captaincy is a real problem.

I just fear that Sage has a soft spot for 'Burnsy' that overrides any business acumen he may have when it comes to contract negotiations...

The New Serbian bloke looked great. Came to the ball, received it and played it off. Much like McGarry at his best.
Hopefully we see him with a bit more time next week, if he's given too much time on the ball, he'll be deadly from long range.

I'll repeat what I copied and posted last November. This must happen at Glory. We simply cannot keep giving up 1/11 of our starting team to an under performing player. There is nowhere to hide, we're virtually one short each week this continues, and the midfield possession stats do not lie. We are getting killed because of it.
Popovic was also coy over his skipper Michael Beauchamp, who was a surprise omission from the side that beat the Heart. The in-form Beauchamp was left out to give Socceroos defender Matthew Spiranovic his club debut. Asked why Beauchamp was dropped last weekend, Popovic said: "Michael's done nothing wrong - he's played well. It was just a decision that was made and it's not due to form. "It was a decision made for that game and he understands that. "I'm sure he'll be prepared and if he gets the opportunity this week, he'll continue on with the great form he's shown so far.

And yet, people still defend this administration. The club, the fans are fucked in the reamhole again this season and again for next season. This season is a write off and instead of continuing on with the club's original philosophy of promoting and blooding WA players (something they were three years late in implementing) the interim-coach is making signings for this season and next season so he can get "results" this season so he can keep his job. And these results? Finals! 6th bloody place. We have to see Glory beaten again, thrashed again by teams more competent, teams who don't pick players based on how well liked they are with the owner, but on merit and form all so the interim-coach can reach a mediocre position on the table that the FFA rewards with "finals". No let's ignore building a core group of decent young players, let's get results now, like getting thrashed, so the club doesn't have to lift a finger and hire an actual coach, one that would probably stick up for himself and then get fired because he had the cojones to drop a player. Tony and his puppets never learn. tl;dr Sage out

Quote:Perth Glory recruit Davydas Sernas feeling the heat on arrival in WA
PERTH Glory recruit Davydas Sernas has been sweating like crazy this week, but he knows he needs to embrace the heat if he is to thrive in the A-League this season.
Sernas was feeling the pinch after training in 30-degree heat in Perth on Wednesday.
In contrast, his home country of Lithuania was expecting a maximum of -12C.
Sernas, who signed on with the Glory on a loan deal last week, is in line to make his A-League debut in Friday night's clash with Melbourne Victory in Perth.
The 29-year-old, who can play on the wing or up front, admits it will take some time for him to adapt to Australia's hot weather.
``I need to fight the weather,'' Sernas said while dripping in sweat after a fast-paced training session on Wednesday.
``It's not so easy for me. But I hope I get better and better.
``I've never played like this. We're playing in the evening (on Friday), so I hope it will be ok. I need to adapt fast.''
Sernas has scored five goals in 35 games for Lithuania, with the 180cm attacker finding the back of the net against Spain and the Czech Republic during his country's Euro qualifying campaign in 2012.
He scored 30 goals in 68 games while playing for Widzew Lodz in Poland's top division, but was more recently plying his trade for Turkish Sper Lig team Gaziantepspor.
Perth also secured former Central Coast Mariners defender Rostyn Griffiths and Serbian midfielder Nebojsa Marinkovic during January's transfer window.
Glory sit in seventh spot on the table, but have the chance to jump back into the top six if they can beat an out-of-sorts Victory.
Melbourne enter the match low on confidence following consecutive 5-0 losses, and Glory will fancy their chances of delivering another blow to Kevin Muscat's men. http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/football/perth-glory-recruit-davydas-sernas-feeling-the-heat-on-arrival-in-wa/story-fnhq6mze-1226813277351

Madaschi probably wants more security than he can get with just an IR contract, which is the only thing Glory can offer him at the moment. We've got a full squad.
Vukovic - 15/16 Duncan - 14/15 Thwaite - 15/16 Clisby - 15/16 Gallas - 13/14 Risdon - 15/16 Jamieson (Madaschi?) - 14/15 O'Neill 14/15 Burns - 13/14 McGarry - 13/14 Griffiths - 14/15 C.Edwards - 14/15 Zahra - 13/14 Harold - 15/16 Sidnei - 14/15 R.Edwards - loan - 13/14 Marinkovic - 14/15 Cernak - 13/14 De Silva - 15/16 Smeltz - 13/14 Maclaren - 14/15 Makeche - 13/14 Dodd (Sernas) - 13/14
Davies - 14/15 Woodcock - 14/15 O'Brien - 14/15 (geez he must be really raw/so far down the #10 pecking order that R.Edw is above him lol)
So 9 players still to re-sign for next season, with Gallas, Dodd & Ryan you would assume to be at the club next season. 2 CMs, 2 STs, 2 RWs, 2 AMs lol. A lot of the Ali youngsters off-contract next season too.
Gallas - gone to another retirement home R.Edwards - gone, stabbed in back in anti-edwards revolution Dodd (Sernas) - gone
Smeltz - expected to leave Burns - ugh McGarry - too old?
Cernak - please, no Zahra - should be needed for depth Makeche - club don't rate?
What are the chances of the club re-signing both McGarry and Burns, and Dodd to make a "comeback"? #-o

FFS sake change the feckin record. Ryan has stated on several occasions he want to go back to reading at the end of the season. Is it that hard for you to understand?

Re: Wouldn't think the IR contract would be the problem, more that he wouldn't get much game time this season, unless Gallas goes down again (which is of course possible). Glory probably want him for next year, but don't want to pay him to (probably) sit on the bench this year. Madaschi may also be concerned about not getting games too.
Also, I think I read that Glory thought they could extend Sernas' loan deal through next year if they wanted. So, I assume the plan is to see how he is and if he's good enough, sign him on for next year, esp if Smeltz does leave.
