Well the new kit is very good - credit where credit is due. And while I don't have children it seems that their community engagement (at least as far as training for the kids, the FIFA/game van thing) has improved vastly. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the reason why membership has been able to grow when the rest of the club has been a shambles.

Doesn't even cover for 10% of the bad though. On field shambles, complete lack of direction and vision for the future, maligning of the youth players, the player power thing, Sage and his Iraqi minister performances, dead last, terrible football, division and infighting amongst the members and supporters, etc. Arrrrrgh.

Our best performance of the season remains the 4 - 2 win over the Kiwis, when DDS lit up the pitch in the 1st half.
That 15 man team had an average age of 22.6.
Taking out oldies McGarry, Thwaites, Vuka and Sidnei, the average age of the remaining 11 was exactly 20.
We're a long way from seeing that again.

Noted that Vukovic sat on the pine for his 1st Japanese match.
Presume it was to aclimatise, although after 3 matches his team sits 2nd bottom, so he shouldn't feel too homesick with the situation.

The incumbent 'keeper has played all 3 matches, but listed as 177cms and 74kgs (Danny 187cms and 96kgs), so perhaps an unfortunate minor training incident may be required to help Danny's cause.

Jack Duncan needs to get on the phone. "Hey, Danny-boy, I've got just the trick for you; when you're in warm-up and need to put your boot through a ball..."

Going by what english J-League forums I could find - their current keeper is hopeless and most expect Vukovic to be the keeper from the next game on, or soon.

Okay, yes, tbf, the kit is brilliant and I do love that we now have a team in the state league.

Sidnei's first goal v Wellington and Sernas' goal v Victory were cracking goals that could arguably make it in a list of all time top 10 Glory home goals.

(Unfortunately Sidnei looks to be strugling week in week out with niggling injuries and has gone off the boil since he was re-signed, whereas Sernas has 5 games left to turn things around or go down as another Peter Anosike. BTW, is Anosike's goal anywhere on the net, I haven't been able to find it?)

Correct, but regardless even if they were against witches hats, it remains the best passing football we've seen this season.
As for that Worst article, I would have shortened this sentence considerably:

The result left Glory rooted to the foot of the table and without a win in more than two months.

LOL.

As for this

Quote:
"I think the desire in the group is that they've set a target for themselves that they don't finish bottom," Lowe said.

"That's their target. My target is always performance-based, but they've set themselves a target and that's what they want to achieve as players and as people, which is good that they've taken that stance.

"It's an achievable goal, it's a measurable goal, it's a realistic goal, so I think it's something that gives them focus."

Re: the bit in bold....what an audacious statement.

Lowe came in and made special mention of making the finals before and after every match until that dream slipped away a couple of weeks ago, when we FIRST heard him talk about his focus now being on performance. If Lowe's target has ALWAYS been performance, why did he fail to mention it until the last couple of games?

So, is Sage right when he said that it was Lowe who thought we could make the finals, esp with a few signings and it was ONLY Lowe who was all about finals (not Sage, who thought it was a transitional year). Is Lowe the ONLY ONE who has no abandoned the good ship "make the finals" and is now concerned about performance? (So much so, that he has taken to bagging his younger players publically?)

OR...is Lowe right and felt compelled to TALK UP finals at every opportunity to (a) get money out of Sage (b) get the job in the first place, (c) because Sage /marketing guys expected finals (d) Sage and co directed him to, or all of the above?

Any way you cut it, its shambolic, and no wonder we are rooted.... to the foot of the table.

Just looked it up. I don't think he ever signed, and I suspect that much like Madaschi, negotiations broke down due to us offering fuck all money.

Looking for positives? Things could be worse ...

"[FFA director of referees Ben] Wilson told Merrick by email last week that Perth goalkeeper Jack Duncan should have been sent off and his replacement challenged to stop the resulting penalty when Cunningham was flattened at Westpac Stadium on March 9.

But no action was taken by the match review panel because referee Jarrad Gillett saw the incident and did not deem it worthy of serious punishment - a scenario that irked the usually amiable Scot".

Bahahahahahaha...

I thought the MRP could only not intervene when a card was given? Now they can not intervene when the referee reckons he saw it but did nothing?

I think it's intended to be when the ref didn't (or claims he didn't) see the incident - eg Burns/Hutchison incident earlier in the season. MRP banned Burns (who ref claimed he didn't see and therefore didn't get a card) but couldn't do anything about Hutchison's kick because he had received a yellow for it.

So it covers the ref for things he missed but not for incompetence.

I presume this was originally set up this way to protect the integrity of the officiating referee.

I think it can only be a good thing to admit referees made mistakes rather than take the Perth Glory approach of denying any fallibility... I think though if you're going to take the stance of admitting the mistake I don't think there's any harm in imposing any retrospective punishment, while acknowledging that the on-field punishment cannot be retrospectively imposed or the match result altered.

I fully endorse the same system be in place for instances such as simulation. Citing for example the Sturridge penalty that was awarded, if on review it was found to be clearly simulation a suspension should be merited even though the penalty itself could never be rescinded.

I recall this tackle from last year which was about the most hideous of the season.
Can't recall whether a free was given, or whether the Ref just decided nothing warranted, but I don't think the MRP were able to act at all.

And from the weekend ... a season highlight has to be the .5 seconds of the Thwaites dribble/spin/twist whatever fancy footwork thing he did with the ball as he ran straight toward the Shed. Left everyone gobsmacked, I think just for the evasive skill used (and to a lesser extent as it meant we had someone actually running down the middle).

That was a shocker. Seeing that reminded me that Jerome Polenz got away with two in two consecutive weeks earlier in the season. Both should have been straight reds but because the ref had seen the incident, the MRP couldn't act.
