Did anyone go to the NPL game? I know we got flogged but didn't read any report from it. Would be good.

From the FW highlights the goalie had a 'mare.

Haven't watched the highlights yet but report on the Glory site includes the following:

"Despite the full-time score, Glory keeper Fraser Greenwood showed moments of brilliance to deny ECU a bigger advantage".

I'm hoping to get the home game v Stirling Lions on Saturday.

Well here is an interesting question Glory seem to have a full set of youth coaches with the NPLnow, are they charging registration fees , and how much in comparison to other NPL teams.

I would imagine, seeing that from 18s down is still controlled by FW NTC, that it remains similar to how one would get into the NTC previously.

Yeah that was half why I'm asking.

I thought 4/5 of those goals the keeper could have done a lot better. Highlights are early in so you don't have to wait long.

Just to be optimistic after not paying attention/caring much for a while -

Just looking at the squad and I guess instantly we can tell the immediate departures/candidates for departure, come end of season - these boys have their contracts expiring or are loan, temporary signings seeing out the end of their terms:

Ryan Edwards (Loan end)
Darvydas Sernas (Loan end?)
Steve McGarry
Travis Dodd
Jacob Burns (No extension yet, as far as we know?)
Gallas
Smeltz
Zahra's contract may be expiring as too IIRC?

Marinkovic, Cameron Edwards, Rostyn Griffiths, Jack Duncan , Thwaite, Jamieson, O'Neill, Clisby, Davies, Woodcock and likely most of the others are all on deals taking them to the end of next season, with a few like Sidnei, Jamie McLaren, Harold and Danny Vukovic on deals/extensions taking them even beyond that?

So obviously a fair bit of scope, room to move for next season... 'on paper' but in practice we all know that's easier said than done!

Senior defender Michael Thwaite has urged Perth Glory powerbrokers to select a permanent coach now so the club can get on with rebuilding after a disastrous 2013-14 campaign.

Glory have been led by interim coach Kenny Lowe since Alistair Edwards was sacked in December, nine months into his three-year contract.

Club owner Tony Sage and chief executive Jason Brewer are narrowing down their coaching options after attracting a wide range of applicants from Australia and overseas.

Thwaite has worked under Lowe, Edwards and Ian Ferguson since joining Glory in 2012 and said coaches had not been the problem at the club, which has won just 14 of 51 games in nearly two full seasons.

The 30-year-old backed Lowe "100 per cent" to continue and said players had to take responsibility for Glory's position.

"I would like to see that decision (on a coach) made now and we can even build for the rest of this year and for next," Thwaite said.

"In the last two years I've had three great coaches, it's just about the players being accountable now.

"Everybody in the last two years has had a chance and especially this year the whole squad's had a game. It's up to us to change the pattern of the year."

A large percentage of the squad is out of contract this year and Glory could turn over more than one-third of their players in the off-season.

Thwaite, who signed a two-year contract extension in December, said Glory should sign players who could instil a winning mindset at the once-proud club.

"It's all about mentality and we want players here at Perth Glory with that winning mentality, whether that's this year or next year," Thwaite said.

"I think that's one thing that needs to change.

"That's always probably (previously) existed at this club. We've always been a heritage club that battles hard with a chance to win and we need that winning mentality back."

Glory are winless in nine matches and sit last on the ladder with four games left to play, three points adrift of ninth-placed Melbourne Heart ahead of this week's tough assignment away to Western Sydney.

Thwaite has struggled with a back injury in recent weeks but is likely to start at centre-back alongside William Gallas.

He's right that we should get in our permanent coach ASAP. However, the rest is a bit bizarre.

Three great coaches? Including the one you went mental at Michael, and was subsequently sacked?

Only about "mentality". Need new players with a winning mentality and then we'll be fine? Straight out of the Glory playbook of how to fail, over and over again....

ATE did a full list a couple of weeks ago:

Harold - 15/16

NYL Pros (+3)
Davies - 14/15
Woodcock - 14/15
O'Brien - 14/15

14/23 players signed for next season, since the other 3 will still be on NYL contract. Sernas potentially if there's one of those clauses in his contract.

2 gone already, Ryan out the door basically, can't see Gallas still here and Zahra bad mouthed Kenny too so can't see him staying around.

That leaves 9 spots for next season (which is a lot) and just Burns, McGarry and Smeltz to be re-signed.

Which means:
a) next season no matter who coaches will be another season of "upheavel" and "gelling".
b) some of the oldies will have to be re-signed because there's no way GLory are going to find 9 people to join.
c) Burns could still be here. :(

Perth Glory winger Sidnei Sciola has been ruled out of the game against Western Sydney at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday with a groin injury.

The exciting Brazilian suffered the injury during last week’s defeat to Melbourne Victory, which all but ended Glory’s slim finals hopes, and was today left out of an 18-man squad for the Wanderers clash.

Ryan Edwards, Josh Risdon and Riley Woodcock all promoted, with two players to be cut on match day.

Senior defenders Michael Thwaite (back) and William Gallas (groin, hamstring) appear likely starters despite struggling with injury in recent weeks, while striker Shane Smeltz is at least one more week away from returning from a groin complaint.

Western Sydney bolstered their squad with the return of Socceroos defender Matthew Spiranovic and Japanese marquee player Shinji Ono.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic could make several changes to his starting line-up after securing a 1-0 win over Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Champions League mid-week.

Glory are one of just two clubs yet to beat Western Sydney since the expansion club entered the A-League last season.

The WA side is winless in nine matches and rooted to the foot of the A-League ladder with four matches to play in the regular season.

With finals seemingly out of the question, the playing group has moved to refocus its attention on avoiding what would be the first wooden spoon in Glory’s 18-year history.

An unlikely win over the Wanderers would give Glory hope of catching ninth-placed Melbourne Heart, who host Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park on Saturday.

I don't buy that BS.

The coaches might be great to be around etc at training, but if bottom place is acceptable, then all need to get booted out.

Glory have gone from a coach with a long term vision built around youth battling for 6th spot to a short term results orientated coach (and not delivering those results) now battling to avoid the wooden spoon.

That is a huge step backwards. Everyone can see it except Sage etc who are blinded by their own "yes" men and incompetence.

FMD, what shit are Glory supporters going to have to put up with next season with Lowe in charge again, Burns in a more senior role (probably Ass Man/Player) and imports misfiring and not playing.

I just wish I could go hide under a rock for 12 months and come out and all will be better. But it will be the same shit again in 12 months with another coach and another world search to come up with the next Glory coach, who just happens to be the current Ass Man.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Woh thanks for that biscuitman1871 (And ATE!)

...Ah Sernas is Dodd's IRP, forgot about that!

Thank goodness Ali Edwards' legacy via some of his signings, keep on - Sidnei, De Silva, Davies, Woodcock, Duncan, Clisby, O'Neill etc the only questionable one, with benefit of hindsight, could be McLaren - such a long deal - but he's still a talented young lad and only catapulted into the line up earlier due to Smeltz. I guess Cameron Edwards could be lingering as 'controversial' given circumstances of Dad's departure, but most of us don't bemoan his presence as a squaddie option?

So with soo many still to be re-signed, IF they will be, things could still be promising. The delay over their re-signing - can only be a good sign? It's clear some haven't been offered or won't be - but how many?! We hold out hope! Though, again, as you posted GloryB, coach scenario still key to most things, especially given how things panned out this season!

And with the season all but over, this is the time we should be blooding, giving more game time, to the younger boys aka those who will be there next season!

Edit: Agree/concur sentiments Hotrod and this is part of the problem, while it's part of the game/media PR, it 'seems' we hear too much from the players out here, some times, or more from them than the coaches? I might be exaggerating, but wouldn't mind hearing less from them at times, though granted I kind of feel that way generally... but none the less, with the poor season... thank goodness Vuka ran off, atleast we will hear from him less!

It's a poor season, get your heads down, pull your fingers out - Thwaite may not be, but a few of these boys are playing for their contracts - if they're not on the way out already!

With one of your leading players behaving like that during the game, gee, that's great for morale! Honestly, Michael Thwaite... #-o

All For Goals and Glory, their contracts were expiring though and reading up, their contracts were extended earlier this season, under Ali or around that time. I could be wrong though, if they were re-signed after he departed, but I don't think they were.

Edit: Yeah, what ATE said - that's what I meant. :)

People bemoan some of Lowe's signings or, more, the direction he's taken this squad and worries that some vets may be kept on, but most of the young boys will still be there, atleast for that 1 more season. So, less there are some early terminations, it will still be atleast half Ali's squad, for one more season.

BTW Though I presume some of you may've discussed this somewhere, what are people's thoughts on Thwaites' behaviour with that infamous self-dacking moment? Not an inspiring moment from one of your senior stars, not a great example for his young team mates, let alone young fans watching! If anything just reflected the downward spiralling morale and even growing apathy setting in this season (With Vuka jetting it out of there). Now with his comments in the article above - 'the usual' kind of talk - It doesn't fill with confidence, given the constant turmoil we've seen and more 'heard about' this season? There is probably some irony there somewhere, with Thwaite's latest comments and even provokes the response of 'practice what you preach'? :-k

Well the excitement is palpable for our next match, what day is it?

We've had our fair share of young guys showing promise in the squad, but the issue is always going to be whether they get the necessary opportunities?
For yet another season I sit here wondering what bright lights we can look forward to for next season. We do ok when it comes to defence, but in the middle and going forward you're left wondering.
The defence aside, who is this squad has taken giant leaps forward after another season under their belt?
What youngster would be an automatic starter next season?
It's just all up in the air and all over the place. No-one has any idea and no-one knows what direction we're heading in (apart from the obvious one). I would have hoped by now that we could see a clear Kenny direction, but no.
And if we've got 40+ CVs from across the world for our coaching position, and Kenny is the best and gets the gig, oh dear.
Yet again in this week's squad, we name the older guys stating they've injury concerns, niggles and so on, but rain, hail or shine we play them, while the youngsters get to accrue more frequent flyer points.

And onto goalscoring.
Was it this pre-season we went to Seff Africa and couldn't score a goal?
How we've progressed, with 22 now in 23 matches.
All interest now on whether McGarry can score another.
Can he join Smeltz at the top leading our Golden Boot table with 4 goals in a season?

Michael Thwaite despite all the smiles and supposed good nature is basically full of shit.
he had a big hand in the Edwards decision and bagged Fergie to anyone who would listen.
everytime he opens his mouth it's crap he should stick to pulling his pants down.

Cernak - 13/14
Makeche - 13/14

Smeltz - 13/14
R.Edwards - loan - 13/14
Dodd (Sernas*) - 13/14

Duncan - 14/15
Jamieson - 14/15
O'Neill 14/15
Griffiths - 14/15
C.Edwards - 14/15
Sidnei - 14/15
Marinkovic - 14/15
Maclaren - 14/15

Vukovic - 15/16
Thwaite - 15/16
Clisby - 15/16
De Silva - 15/16
Risdon - 15/16

If the club had guts they'd sign a high profile coach, let him have a quick look at all players with contracts coming to an end and decide to get rid of all of them if necessary, and give him free reign to bring in whatever players he thinks he needs to make a completely new playing system work.

Basically like what Ali Edwards did, but without spending so much money on kids and without completely blowing the squad balance by signing players in the wrong positions.

They didn't spend a lot of money on the kids, that was the point.

No one was signed out of position. Face it, if the brothers had a different surname we'd have depth everywhere. None of the coaches we've had this season have persisted with Cam Edwards (#8) or B O'Neill (at #6).

Was going to post something after Shanager but FFT shat itself again.

TL:DR is basically on Sunday Zahra will play for Sidnei and Risdon/Davies will take the spot remaining on the bench, whilst Ryan Edwards will be on the outer, again.

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe admits his young players are getting "burned" by the A-League's finest, but says the experience will play a crucial role in helping them develop into star players down the track.

A nine-game winless run has left Glory rooted to the bottom of the table, and they face an uphill battle to end that dour streak when they take on Western Sydney at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday.

Lowe inherited a squad bristling with young talent when he took over as coach from Alistair Edwards, but he feels the inexperience has hurt the team at times.

A clear example of that was last week's 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory, when a momentary lapse in concentration from Glory's defence allowed veteran striker Archie Thompson to pinch a 90th-minute winner.

"Unfortunately, our young lads are getting burned a little bit," Lowe said on Friday.

"But you know what, it will make them better people and better players, which is a massive positive.

"We've fallen over the odd ball. We've thrown the odd ball in the net. We've helped people along the way. But no one's outplayed us.

"With a little bit more luck, we would have picked up more points."

Perth sit three points and goal difference adrift of ninth-placed Heart.

Glory players have set themselves the target of avoiding what would be the club's first ever wooden spoon.

Star striker Shane Smeltz (groin) will miss a second straight match, while speedy winger Sidnei (adductor) has also been ruled out of the Wanderers clash.

The Wanderers sit a point adrift of second-placed Melbourne Victory as the race for a top-two berth heats up.

Although Western Sydney have managed to record back-to-back wins in the Asian Champions League, they haven't won an A-League match since their 2-0 win over Perth on February 22.

No mention of the f*** ups of the senior players, who have fallen over the odd ball etc... And was the last goal all Clisby's fault anyway. He was tracking left, who was tracking Archie who was heading right?

Were they one of the local sides trying to promote a connection with a European club? I know Stirling have the West Ham thing going, and ECU obviously have a number of English links... but what's the differentiator with Balcatta then?

Wow. Seems a bit excessive. Any idea what they're offering players that makes the costs so high?

Every midfielder in the squad, apart from perhaps McGarry and Ryan Edwards, is either a winger or a genuine defensive midfielder. Since it was known that McGarry was probably not going to pull off the dynamic central midfield role based on past form... that meant Ryan Edwards as a proper central midfielder or no-one.

Combine that with the lack of cover at full-back and the fact that at the start of the season we only had Thwaite and Pantelidis as experienced CB options... I would definitely call that unbalanced.

And as far as I'm aware we're not spending significantly less on salaries than any other club and indeed if you factor in Gallas we're one of the highest-spending clubs. Therefore the kids filling out our squad are presumably getting paid as much as anyone else in the league. So if we're paying that much for young talent they should really be up to A-League quality.

Watched Adelaide getting good coverage on SBS again tonight... what a joy to watch. Pass the ball about with precision and dictate games, create great goalscoring chances, good youngsters like Malik, Barker-Daish, Mabil and Bowles coming through, and 5 imports in Ferreira, Carrusca, Cirio, Isaias and Neumann who all fit into their salary restrictions and have more talent between them than the entire Glory squad.

And to think, barely over a year ago they were a troubled club and arguably behind Perth Glory in developmental terms. Amazing what a couple of smart signings of key personnel and a commitment to build a stylish and entertaining football tea can achieve. I'll definitely be cheering on the Reds come finals time.
