And the way they are going it seems that it is the way its going to stay in the old days we had a mixture of all nations going to games not so much now had a lot more italians and slavs etc but i reckon they are pissed of on the coaches and players that have been mostley brittish and certainly havent set the world on fire especially the coaches weve had in Sages time .
When Tana took over he said he was going to get rid of the ethnics squoblings and bring us all together which he did and as i see it now it seems to be very brittish oriantated and is not helping the progrese of this club at all when will they learn.

Found it!

Wolves take title but Glory wins the awards

AM Archive - Monday, 12 June , 2000 00:00:00
Reporter: David Webber
COMPERE: Wollongong Wolves' fans are still celebrating their win over Perth Glory in the National Soccer League grand final. But the season has also been a massive success for the Perth Glory which has only been in the competition for three seasons but has attracted a large, broad, and multicultural support base. David Webber reports that Glory fans believe the rest of the NSL should be emulating their club for the sake of the future of the game.

DAVID WEBBER: There were more goals than in any other NSL grand final. It was the longest grand final. There were more people watching than ever before. It was the first for Wollongong and Perth and it's the Wolves' first trophy. Wolves' captain, Matt Hawsley, says the comeback in the NSL competition was mirrored by their performance in the grand final.

MATT HAWSLEY: I experienced the highs and lows and at the moment it's spot on the highs that I've ever experienced. And I'm just so proud of the boys because 3-0 down, you know in any league, but in a grand final, it's virtually hard to come back, particularly when you've got a hostile crowd against you.

DAVID WEBBER: But the Wolves' win also closed as a great season for Perth Glory. This year Glory was boasting home games crowds of 13,000. Elsewhere in the NSL attendances were less than half that. The two NSL finals at Subiaco attracted more than 40,000 people each. Glory fans were disappointed their team went down but believed the club has the most promising future of all the clubs.

PERTH GLORY FAN: It just goes to show what a great organisation Perth Glory is, and all the eastern clubs they've got to try and emulate them.

FAN: I felt really frustrated in the end, like a lot of the supporters.

FAN: ...can be paid so much money and miss a goal, I just can't believe it.

FAN: No actually, I agree.

FAN: Was a great season. And it's disappointing you lose it like that, specially 3-0 at half time.

FAN: They should be the Manchester United now of Australia football. They've got the fans and they've got the money so I don't see why they shouldn't be in the finals every year. That's what I expect.

DAVID WEBBER: The club estimates that about 40 per cent of its fans are Australian born and 34 per cent are from the UK. The rest were born in Italy or other European countries. The club set out in the mid-nineties to establish itself as a commercial venture and developed a focus on marketing. They chose a title, logo and ground with no dominant ethnic connection. Fans believe this is why Glory has been so successful.

FAN: I think it's different from the eastern states because there's a mixture there of supporters. It's not just one ethnic group. Everybody comes down - the Poms, the Italians, the Greeks. Everybody is there, son, and they've been successful so that helps. I think it's just because it's everybody's club. It's not just one ethnic group. That's the problem over east.

FAN: They reflect the people that we are over here in Perth. That of everybody sort of like gets together in a spirit, as one, and it's a great responsibility for the Perth and city itself.

COMPERE: Disappointed but optimistic Glory fans speaking to David Webber in Perth.

I heard a rumor that we are looking at Ruben Zadkovich.

Not sure how true it is.
Wouldn't be a bad signing, a bit of a like for like replacment for Burns, but we don't need a new Burns. In saying that, I wouldn't be against signing Zadkovich, I welcome more quality and depth in the midfeild. But with the signings we have already made, and the potential or rumored signings, a lot of which seem to be in central midfeild, I am not sure if we would need him.

Either way, it adds more quality to the midfeild, which I am all for.

Edit: I am really struggling to get a cohgerent point across about my oppinion on this. I have edited this about 5 or 6 times, and it's not turning out how I would like. I have two competing thoughts on this; That we don't really need him, and that he would actually be a pretty decent signing that I am not against. In the end, it has come out as a comment that I fell doensn't adquetly express my oppinion on both views.

Simply, I woudln't complain whether we sign him or not. I am content either way. I think he would be a good signing, but I am not sure if we need to sign him.
I hope I am making some sort of sense.

Zadkovich?

Lucky it's only your rumour.
Position - Midfielder
Matches - 27 games in 2013/2014.
Goals - 0. NIL. NOTHING. NONE. ZERO. DIDDLY SQUAT. NOUGHT. ZILCH.

The better teams score goals from midfield such as Adelaide 19 in 13/14. Brisbane scored 11 in 13/14, but look at how creative and dangerous Broich, McKay, Miller, etc were. Newcastle got little score from there midfield, but it matters less if you're giving it to your strikers who banged in 20+ for the season.

Glory are down as scoring 10 from our midfield list. Take out Sidnei as a winger (3) and McGarry's penalties (3) and you get a truer picture of just how big this problem area is.
Another non scoring, defensive midfielder is not what our team needs. It's not friggin' rocket science, but why can the club not see this. We don't score, but more than anything, we don't create.
We are fast becoming the club of last resort for anyone who can't get a gig anywhere else.
(Presumably Burns has told the Club they need at least 2 or 3 just like him to fill in the gap his retirement has created).

Lol Polenz is clearly one of the best footballers in the country. Has the touch and technique to put 95% of the league to shame. FFS this thread is starting to annoy me.

Zad isn't a world beater, but a little steel in midfield wouldn't hurt, and he was great last season. I'm guessing that means that we've given up on James and Neil though :(

Appears to be shaping up for a straight Zadkovich - Harold swap.

If so, that is outrageous.

Harold is worth keeping. Has decent pace and not scared to pull the trigger.

Zadkovich will surely be asking for a lot more than what Harold was being paid. Story in the Newcastle Herald stated that, "Zadkovich’s imminent departure will free up about $220,000 a year in the Jets’ salary cap".

But Glory is meant to be cutting down wages

They don't need Zadkovich when there's a starting DM like Rostyn and O'Neill and now Ferreria as backups. So this signing is all sorts of stupid if they get him. Kenny having to play Burns-Rostyn in that midfield line last year to accommodate everyone but now that's how he actually wants to play that way? Fucking hell...

Somewhat agreed. Echoes of Travis Dodd, Hersi and some others - 'their clubs only prepared/capable of offering so much for renewed terms - then in swoops Glory to 'steal' their prized assets, 'outbidding' for greater the value and often double the contract lengths!

Obviously it's case-by-case and hopefully Hersi will thrive, but, don't understand this and was the Kilkenny/Wesolowski talk to prep us for Ferreira and Zadko? Coming from the card tables again, some kind of slight of hand trick - misdirection - "Look over there, we are looking at those two players... BAM, let me introduce you to Ferreira and Zadko!"

Anyway, must be a Griffiths-Zadko midfield, Ferreira joining the rotation behind with O'Neill and Cameron Edwards. That is the logical outcome and, on-paper, the centre (&wider) midfield options sorted?!

BTW On the wages part - overall Ferreira and Zadko may still equal 'relatively cheap' compared to Burns & McGarry?

The central midfield is not sorted because there's no one to pass the damn ball forward! All those problems last season - will be EXACTLY the same next season, whether they sign Keogh or Messi.

Zadko isn't cheap. He's $220k PLUS, because Newcastle were UNWILLING to match the terms (price and 2+1 years) that Glory were.

Hersi and Zadkovich have been signed almost exactly the same way Dodd was. He was even a former captain too.

The administration do not learn. Period.

Period.

Of all the names on these pages, about the only one who'd improve us one iota would be Messi, but Kenny missed the boat there.
I have never been more underwhelmed in Glory's efforts ever to improve their squad. People say we can only more in one direction after last season, but wrong, there are 2 spots lower we're looking at right now.
Get a friggin' midfielder who can create for god sake.
Who's got Tommy Pondeljak's number handy, he's still only 38.
Am not happy with all this crap.
If nothing worked last season, don't do it again, change it.
Right now it wouldn't surprise me if they went looking at our previous superstar striker, Dragicevic.

'Relatively Cheap' - Would that wage range compare to Burns? Or the combination of 'above average' Zadko and 'cheaper' Ferreira = a bit less in wage costs 'combined' compared to Burns and 'VISA' McGarry combined?

I don't disagree in terms of quality, bang for buck (Zadko wise) and playing style wise - just trying to view a positive spin on that front atleast.

Wider terms, concur with sentiments of you guys, though I still held out hope even after Hersi and, being a fan, still somehow do, though with each signing those hopes diminish further.

Zadko, both on reputation and on THAT wage we're all fussing over - has not signed here just to be a squaddie and with VISA Marinkovic also about, signed with the purpose of being 'the creative force' whether he actually is or not... odds are less that Lowe will do what we want him to do with central midfield, especially now he's signed said 'Zadko' (And 5/6 potential CMs & AMs now within the squad)? :/

They have 20 players signed now, 21 with VISA striker - rumoured to be Andy Keogh? IF Gallas is re-signed then that's a squad of 22 and all five VISA places utilised/maxxed out? Less they don't re-sign Gallas and utilise that remaining VISA/Marquee spot on a decent CM, then odds are against much change from the existing centre midfield options of this squad. :/

Looking a bit further - what may be even sadder about the Zadko move is that the Jets may replace him from within, and 'who' from within? It's been touted the likes of a promising West Australian NTC product, young Mitchell Oxborrow, may see more of a chance, via this roster shake up!

Quote:

...

Midfield is one area where the Jets have depth.

Josh Brillante, Ben Kantarovski and Zenon Caravella were used in tandem with Zadkovich last campaign. Jacob Pepper is also adept in the centre of the park and Young Socceroo Mitch Oxborrow is expected to push for a regular spot this season.

...

We take a peaking Sydney-product off their hands, so they can groom another young West Australian? Just some slight irony there?

Ok, so Zadkovich has now officially signed.
http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/perthglory/news-display/zadkovich-flies-west/90662

(Any excuse to use that photo and point out the resemblence)
We have Griffiths, Ferreira, O'Neill and Zadkovich. CM/DM is sorted. Can we please now focus on signing a good number 10. We desperatly need one, that was the main probelem last season, no supply through the middle to the striker(s). We always seemed to give it to the wingers and then cross it in.
We need someone to play between Koegh(or whoever we sign or play as striker if the rumor is false) and Griffiths/Zadkovich (I am assuming we will be playing a 4-2-3-1, with Griffiths and Zadkovich as the two DMs. I won't go into my general dislike for the overuse of the 4-2-3-1 in football lately).

On an unrelated note, do we get a new kit next season? I liked the look of the Macron (well, I at least thought it was an improvement), but I ended up wearing the old Blades shirt becase the Macron one was just generally uncomfortable. Especially around the arms and the stupid livelighter thing on the back, that for some reason wasn't made out of the same fabric as the reast of the shirt, it stuck to the skin on my back and was just generally annoying.
