Ah well, if we get Vrteski back, we'll finally have a keeper to keep Tando honest.
To be fair, I prefer having 2 keepers the same age going for the one jersey then a veteran keeper and young keeper going for it as it improves competition between the keepers.

Erebus wrote:FP General wrote:That story is now on the blog: "Newshound: Young goalkeeper set to return to Glory". Check out the blog for more... Stop plugging your blog. Its in your profile and your sig, and that is enough. Posting in a thread just to plug you blog is frowned upon. Erebus, how's this for a deal... most of us Glory fans (myself included) like seeing all the blogs and resources we can on our club. As long as it doesn't become ridiculous, traffic-diverting-so-I-can-earn-cash spam, how about the General advertises as much as he likes on this thread (within reason), and he can keep his ads in other threads to a minimum. Sound reasonable?

It seems logical that every new post on his blog, he should be able to let Perth fans know in here.

Just something random ....
its good to see Jacob Burns winning the poll on the a-league website.
Goes to show he must be quality, and considering perth has a smaller population then other cities around aus, people over east must be backing him to do well too.

Tommycash wrote:All quiet on the western front regarding marquees. i wonder what sterj is thinking ? Says in today's West that an announcement will be made by Monday. Says that Central Coast, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth all had placed offers for him. Personally, Central Coast seems possible, close to home, but will they fork out the $$$ to have him, they run their club money wise very effeciently, think they mainly spend what they can and not too much more. Gold Coast have no hope, they would only be able to offer him $100K max, then not be garunteed a starting place, something that would be really important to him leading up to the World Cup. Adelaide seems possible, Champions League football after the season ends. Probably on a little. Perth, well who knows, we made the first enquires ages ago. We'd offer him marquee status, Tony Sage said on his interview with Lets Talk Football said that if Chris Coyne and Mile Sterjovski came back to Australia they'd come to Perth, but then again who knows? Also in the West article it said that Tony Sage was looking at $250,000 from the government to go towards the game. The governments has said that it didn't have enough economic benefit for the state. Sage said he has spent over $1,000,000, close to $2,000,000 on getting the teams over and needs to sell out both matches to recoup that investment. According to the article, if this goes well there could be a possibility that one of the members od the EPL's big four, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and La Liga's Barcelona could be coming to Perth next season. How massive would that be?! [-o< Edited by southern3: 23/5/2009 11:44:47 AM

Quote:PERTH Glory has failed to gain State Government backing for friendlies involving two English Premier League teams because they are not thought to bring in economic and media benefits, the West Australian has reported today.
Eventscorp, an group under the auspices of the government, said they would not provide funding for the three friendlies involving Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory to be held at Members Equity Stadium in July.
Eventscorp executive director David van Ooran also said an application for funding from the Glory had come to late.
"In addition, on the basis of the information supplied, Eventscorp is of the view that the proposed matches don't deliver the required economic impact and media benefits that are required to receive State funding," he said.
Perth Glory owner Tony Sage, who reportedly will spend over $1.6 million to bring the teams over to Perth, thought the Government would provide around $250,000 to the club.
"But I don't think they understand the significance of it," he said. "They don't understand how big the English Premier League is and how much interest there is."
In order to recoup the costs Sage is hoping crowds of 20,000 on both nights (July 10 and July 15).
He also said inquiries had been made to luring big name teams to Perth next year including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Glory are expected to know the future plans of Socceroo Mile Sterjovski by Monday. www.footballperth.blogspot.com Thats the article. :) Edited by southern3: 23/5/2009 02:38:59 PM

Edited by FP General: 23/5/2009 02:41:07 PM Its annoying that. On the subject of the article, i wonder what caused the cost to go from 1.6 mil to 2 mil?

Each time you do these things you'd learn things too. And the more often it happens, the more often we get to try and get a new stadium.

From the sounds of it the Fulham match will make a profit, with that profit going towards the exclusiveness of wolves here in wa.

The wikipedia article on Sterjovski states this: Quote:Sterjovski recently signed for A-League club, the Central Coast Mariners for an undisclosed fee. He has announced a press conference for 23rd May. Could have been a wishful fan, or someone with inside knowledge...
