Well I'm now a Glory (associate) member for the first time. Hopefully I'll be in the gold seating during the fulham/wolves games, eating my cake, laughing at the guys in the standing area breaking the barrier when Dadi scores his first goal.

in regards to the MES....

we have one of the best pitches in australia .... the surface and condition of the pitch we have is world class standard for sure, its just the capacity thats the issue.

an upgrade in the off season to say 30k would be fantastic, then with more upgrades to me implemented later.

MES stumbling block is the heritage listed stand. That will remain a pain in the neck until the govt allows its destruction.

Issues with sharing a multipurpose stadium like Kitchener are scheduling conflicts, expensive preparations to switch codes and most importantly of all for our game - the pitch quality.

I'm with FFA and favour a new purpose designed stadium where the power station currently is. A lot of German clubs have great stadiums, and they still have terracing.

Yeah very similar seasons have been, high's and many more lows but the Glory are firing the league up this season. Nix aren't but I have a feeling we will do well, cleared a lot of dead wood (except for bloody Mulligan) and 2 or 3 more good signings and we will have a good squad. Just hope that Kruse does not accept our offer.

Dogfight continues over rectangular stadium
Tim Clarke
May 19, 2009 - 7:28AM
Perth Glory owner Tony Sage has vowed to fight any push to have his club leave Member's Equity Stadium - despite suggestions the FFA believes the former Perth Oval will be unsuitable to be any part of a bid to host the soccer World Cup.

Glory, the Western Force and WA's rugby league fraternities have been pushing the State Government hard in recent months to give the green light to a $73 million upgrade of Perth's premier rectangular stadium.

Sage admitted he was stunned over the weekend at reports that talks between the FFA and government officials last week centred on other potential sites as possible soccer venues - including the old East Perth power station

"There has been a spanner in the works, the FFA have come out to the west and put another proposal forward which has surprised everybody," Sage said.

"It certainly took us by surprise at Perth Glory, so we wait and see.

"We think that there will be a solution to MES within the next two months, it has to happen, everyone knows about the facilities.

"The Force are moving here next season and the government will act, I think, in the next couple of months."

The FFA's bid to host a soccer World Cup would currently not include Perth, with Subiaco Oval considered unsuitable for rectangular sports after the growing discontent of Force fans.

A long time critic of the FFA, Sage said any push to move Perth Glory from its current home would be resisted.

"This has come out of left field, and needs to be digested by everyone. That (move) would be extremely bizarre and I don’t think it would happen," Sage said.

I can see why the FFA don't like us!

Glorious it's not just about capacity though- Sage brought up that it was embarassing Wolves or something had access to only one lot of showers or something. Sorry not sure what Sage said in regards to that. But it reflects how MES does have some way to go, to bring it up the 'International standard' it needs to be, to host WC matches. Yeah, some German stadiums still have terracing or something, but I think they temporarily installed seats for the WC? Or Berlin's Olympic Stadium was a special exemption? Also when I talk of upgrades, the Force talk of this too - the proposed $75M upgrades include better media boxes or something and more corporate boxes. Having the capacity is only part of it, there's alot more demanded of stadiums, for these events, these days. It's like UEFA's 5 Star rating process for their stadiums, like who can host CL finals etc...

Yeah a new, slightly larger, purpose built stadium would be best, but as I spoke of, how to sort out the Force situation in the short term? They will be spending money on MES regardless, because MES as it stands is below what they require and the govt. may not like the idea of spending up on MES, when the rectangle codes just want to abandon it to up and move to some $250-$300M venue around the corner, that the govt would also have to fund/support.

There's alot of politics here and the Kitchenor thing - Force were initially part of that and if that proposal comes back on the agenda then any push for a modern, larger purpose built rectangle rectangle stadium perfectly suited for the World Cup, may be off the table. Like Adelaide likely pushing for Adelaide Oval to be used, our govt. will probably push for Subiaco to host WC fixtures anyway, which equals the death of our chances to host a group anyway.

Article in the west today confirms Vrteski is back training weith the club.
and also it appears Juric has decided he'll be more of a coach then a player.
so Vrteski will be our number two which is great news.
i hope we dont go waste our money on another keeper like we often do.

Woot.

Tando and Aleks competing for number one, with Dejan Aleksic in the youth team keeping an eye on a senior spot... that is a damn impressive young keeping line-up.

And Frank the Tank no longer taking up salary cap money... thank god.

Just for Xmaswhore...

Newshound: Young goalkeeper set to return to Glory
After spending two years in Macedonia former Australia youth international goalkeeper Aleks Vrteski is likely to re-sign with Perth Glory, according to a report in the West Australian.

The news was revealed by Let's Talk Football host Eamon Duffy on Sunday.

The young goalkeeper has already resumed training with the club and will battle Tando Velaphi for the number one gueresy.

Perth Glory's other goalkeeper Frank Juric is set for a coaching role within the club.

Vrteski was part of the Glory's setup for the 2006-07 A-League season but left in 2007 to join Macedonian club FK Pobeda.

He said he could feel a difference within the club.

"There's a very good atmosphere within the club," he said.

"Comparing two years ago when I was at Glory to now, it's like a different place."
