Hmm I think you guys partially answer own question in regards to full back - if Edwards did indeed suggest that Woodcock may be Jamieson's back up?

And AndyTodd'sElbow, or Shayne Hope I should say, is surely right. It sounds correct that Glory have more places filled and even with 18 that leaves 5 spots they could fill, including a VISA or two.

Also during last discussion or speculation around squad size, McGarry was yet to be re-signed and he since has been along with the two young boys.

And with 'designated NYL players' I presume he means the 'Three required Under 20s' as according to here:

From a BBC article 5 years back - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7778449.stm

Average wage is about US$20,000 + five years worth of rises. Top wages are around US$240,000 + five years worth of rises. Even considering that the rand has moved from 5.5 to 9.5 to the AU/US dollar, their top wage earners aren't exactly poor.

So basically we'd probably have zip chance of signing anyone on a top wage - $240,000 to live on in South Africa is more than a $1,000,000 here. I know - I've lived there.

An average wage earner would be easily obtainable - but would we really be looking to sign an average player on a VISA spot? I don't see it too likely that we'd sign a South African player. Maybe a 'coloured' or white player trying to 'escape' modern South Africa, sure. But even so, a long shot I think.

Well informed, thank you for that. I guess it sums up why we haven't signed players from there already - especially seeings as Australian teams like Glory have already visited the place and heck, Glory even had South Africa (I think he was?) coach Mitch D'Avray!

Has Cernak actually been confirmed? Havn't seen this anywhere. Would be such as waste IMO. Need to get rid of Zahra aswell. We need a partner for Thwaite, a creative mid and at least one solid winger (Dont mind Harold now, thort he was useless but no I don't mind him. The imports will be the difference between us fighting for the championship or just slipping into the finals. Really need a couple of experienced quality player. I cant see how burns n mcgarry can play in the same team? Unless edwards chooses 2 CDMS, but one with burnsy should be enough, which would mean mcgarry will play CAM, which I dont like.

What to make of this? What appears to be an amateur team from the UK - North Eastern Manchester / Rochdale area tweeted that a player of theirs is going on a 1 month loan with Perth Glory? Unless it's a nickname the team name is Lighthouse FC Rochdale. Couldn't find anything about them in league comps, and they're not part of either of the two amateur leagues in that area that I could find. Very weird.

THE LIGHTHOUSE FC ‏@FCLiberal 6 Jun
We can confirm that after a very impressive debut @JordanLBuckley will be going out on a 1 month loan deal with Perth glory!

So would seem to be a trial? A VISA spot for a UK amateur. Very strange.

Hello all, I come in peace.

To the site owner(s) I hope the following request is okay?

I am the creator of a Manchester United website called Stretford End Arising. URL: http://www.stretfordendarising.com/

We run a feature that follows the progress of former players. An Everton fan has recently written a piece on Phil Neville: http://www.stretfordendarising.com/history/2013/03/20/pointing-out-pip-an-evertonian-analysis-of-the-good-looking-neville-brother/

Is a keen writer interested in writing an original article on Liam Miller? I am aware he will be playing for Brisbane Roar next season.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Thank you,
Andrew

Yes, it was confirmed ages ago. Last signing of the Fergie era, as in AE had no choice in that regard.

A pretty uninspiring signing, if I remember correctly Lighthouse Talbots Head is a 3rd or 4th division Rochdale Sunday league team!!

Might not be as bad as you all think. Seems like a young kid who made a very big impact on debut. Could be a gem.

Just so you all know. Da Silva was unreal for the young socceroos the other day. He'll be very frustrating to watch this year because his flicks and passes are for players making tricky diagonal runs. A bit like Nicky Carle, his passing and skill may be under rated, because players can't read his game. He's on another level.

If Harold can learn to run off Da Silva they'll be the most deadly combo in the league. Da Silva's passing and Harold's pace will put Harold into miles of space, and that should allow for plenty of cut backs to Smeltz or break away goals for Harold.

I watched the game too and the biggest thing to come out of the game wasnt Adam Taggart who isnt a bad little player either, but was this De Silva kid!

He looks like a super talent, and given the right nuturing he will become a socceroo in the few years not doubt.

He reminds me of Mustafa Amini except he looks a bit more sharper and quicker, technically excellent and great flair and vision.

We are starting to see a new trend in Aus Football, where we starting to nurture a more technical player, creative No.10, and we are seeing first glance with the likes of Amini, Rogic, Antonis and now this De Silva kid.

Where previously we struggled to identify this type of player in our national set up and now all of a sudden its changed! Great to see!

Personally, still not sold that tweet is real or just some bullshitting.

Good to hear about de Silva, sounds promising.

Just checking again, is anyone interested in creating a Perth Glory forum with me?

Preferably a little bit of experience.

I'd be happy to Mod if you were looking for people but I have no idea how to set that kind of thing up.

In other news, Aussie guy Brad Inman comes off contract at Newcastle in the next month. Would be an awesome junior marquee signing.

Best off getting a paid host. Will only cost you $10/month if that.

I'd start with one of these - https://www.phpbb.com/hosting/ - recommended by the most popular forum software guys.

This is roughly how we are looking at the moment, the bolded players are guys I feel are first XI material, the red is guys who may still leave (have been rumoured to leave) before the season starts:

------------------Vukovic
Risdon--Thwaite--Panta--Jamieson
------------Burns--McGarry
Harold-------Da Silva-------Zahra
----------------Smeltz

Bench:
Duncan, O'Neill, Edwards, Cernak, Makeche, Clisby
Dodd (out for the season)

McGarry looked good under Edwards, but we'll see if he's upto scratch, he has been patchy. We really need a defensive utility on the bench, someone like Shannon Cole or Milan Susak. Da Silva could also end up overseas if he keeps banging away goals for the U20s.

If Zahra can lift and get some decent runs going that's going to be a very dangerous attacking midfield behind Smeltz.
And with another good year from Jamieson we could actually have a team that attacks rather than just being an attacking team on paper.

A-League has improved and moved on. Burns shouldn't be first team for any A-League club.

There are random twitter rumours about Iraq's 22 year old backup keeper either trialling or being linked with the club. Seems made up but you never know.

Yeah, certainly a lot of pace out wide which is the way to go in the modern game. Another striker like Gameiro would be superb, a midfielder like Meyer and a another defensive utility would be superb. If we had to start the season with that XI though, I'd be happy enough. But losing any of those 3 players in red could be detrimental though. Edwards' signing Duncan would seem to indicate that Vuka is staying though, otherwise he might have gone for a more experienced keeper. We will struggle hard if Thwaite goes, which I suspect he is. There just aren't that many Aussies defenders on the market right now. If Thwaite goes I'd love to see us pick up any two of Djulbic, Kisnorbo or Van Den Brink. BVDB was released by Fergie if memory serves, so Edwards may have a chance of talking him back. Fergie had a replacement lined up though, which is why he allows BVDB to go.

You'll see a different player this year. He is the club captain and Edwards wants to play a short passing game. Burns can do it, and I bet he will. This could just be his best season for us yet, but surely his last.

I'd be surprised to be honest. I'll give him 3 or 4 games. If he's the same as last season I'll be calling for his head. Cordoba embarrassed him at the end of last season, and they don't seem to have resigned him. So can't see how Burns could possibly be worth a spot if it wasn't for the (c) next to his name.

Glory have a sad history of letting captains play on when they've been insipid though. Jamie Coyne anyone?

I can't see Thwaite going anywhere just yet, that's only a feeling.
And your right about Duncan, Vuka did go somewhere didn't he for a trial. I hate not knowing.

I think the only area we are left short is CB, if Thwaite goes then we need two replacements. But will soon see.

Since Burns has been dropped to a more defensive midfield position he has a new lease on life and it has shown in his performances.
I also think we need that hard man in the middle as he can stamp authority down on the game.

I agree if he doesn't perform he needs to be dropped but I have always been a massive fan of Burns and even more so now that Edwards will play him where he is suited, rather than when we need a player.

Signing a foreign backup keeper is such a waste of a visa signing. It's like when Wellington signed that English keeper as backup to Paston.
Having said that, I can't see any truth to this. Perth have Vukovic and young Jack Duncan who I believe is a decent backup.

I can't help with.
I certainly hope it's not true.

International spots should be taken by tried and tested players.

Two things.

Firstly, whilst Da Silva is a brilliant player and I think he deserves to be part of the matchday squad every week, I hope we don't put too much burden on him too soon.

Secondly, we really need another wide midfielder. Harold impressed me once (away to Melbourne Heart) all last season, good in patches but extremely inconsistent. Shouldn't be starting IMO, and neither should Zahra.

I don't think that'll be the case. You saw when Ali Edwards signed him, he wasn't thrown straight into the team, rather mostly coming off the bench. After a pre-season I'd imagine he'll be starting, but Ali's actions last season suggest to me he won't let De Silva carry the burden.
