Firstly, whilst Da Silva is a brilliant player and I think he deserves to be part of the matchday squad every week, I hope we don't put too much burden on him too soon.
Secondly, we really need another wide midfielder. Harold impressed me once (away to Melbourne Heart) all last season, good in patches but extremely inconsistent. Shouldn't be starting IMO, and neither should Zahra. I don't think that'll be the case. You saw when Ali Edwards signed him, he wasn't thrown straight into the team, rather mostly coming off the bench. After a pre-season I'd imagine he'll be starting, but Ali's actions last season suggest to me he won't let De Silva carry the burden. I trust Edwards to take good care of him. Da Silva will have a good season if he can stay injury free, and it'll he'll be massive for us. I wasn't a big Harold fan until Edwards came in, from then on I thought he picked up immensely. He and Jamieson stepped it up a gear and started playing short passes and flicks along the ground. The thing you have to remember is that Edwards is well trained with the 433 system using fast wingers and works well with younger guys. Just watch what he does with Harold, I think he'll be a key for us this year. I don't like Zahra starting either, thus I didn't bold him. My point was simply that he's probably the best option we have signed at the moment. We really need to fill the huge gap left by Nagai. Edited by Eastern Glory: 23/6/2013 09:18:37 PM

I think De Silva will be safe next season. He will adapt to the league pretty quickly and he is strong enough already to hold his own and this tournament will help increase his strength.
hard thing is going to be keeping him injury free from people hacking him and that's why I feel Burns will be important next season.
As far as hype building the kid that's going to be hard not to do if he keeps developing the way he is. The good thing is Edwards is used to working with youngsters as keeping his head out of the clouds will be important after the under 20's tournament.

Under Edwards Harold started improving and Jamieson started getting back to his early season form.
Such a shame that we lost Taggart. I rate him very highly and him in front of Harold, De Silva and an in form Zahra we would be deadly and fast up front.
Maybe Gustavo Maralunda could be our answer for that. I understand it is big step up to A league but it could work.

I'd prefer to see Harold more centrally forward and Zahra on the right wing.
We have a defensive utility, his name is Pantelidis. We need a starting CB to pair with Thwaite. Unless Clisby turns into the next Good/Sainsbury.
Pretty sure Nagai was said to be coming back.
And Vukovic was training/trialling at Fulham.

Clisby was very good in the NYL for Glory and was named the best player in the comp for the West Australian premier league last season, has good passing range and a cracking free kick!!

Can anyone comment on Clisby's form for the NYL team? As Rooster said, he played at RB and he can play holding mid, which I think was his preferred position, which means he could play central mid too as well as centre-back which he's done for us. Whilst he's no 'Jamie Coyne' is positions he's prepared to play, that's a utility in my books. Rooster9 wrote: Clisby was very good in the NYL for Glory and was named the best player in the comp for the West Australian premier league last season, has good passing range and a cracking free kick!! Should be noted though, that the state league performance there was before the NYL. So it's "form" more than a year old. Yet Izzo was the one doing his best Schwarzer impersonations against Colombia  Tbh, I feel a lot better with Duncun as backup than Italiano. We literally saw nothing from him, Edwards can't have rated him and at least Duncan is in the Young Socceroos, which indicates some talent. I suppose we'll see when Lewis is starting at Welly.

Quick Question, With no Liam Miller and no replacement on the horizon are we finally going to get to see Brandon O'Neil or is The Coaches son going to help Burns run our midfield. Also how does everyone feel about the addition of Cernak ? I never rated him with Victory and dont feel he really fits our style..

Was interested in taking him when NQF folded, but he hasn't looked anywhere near good enough since. A little annoyed that Fergie was allowed to sign him for next season with the club knowing that he was close to the axe. Hopefully Edwards can turn him into a decent squad player.

Quick, to the Titanic we go! \:d/ Cernak, by all reports is a flop, no idea why Fergie signed him, sucks that we're stuck with him but hey, Jamo and Pants did well enough and they were recycled players so stranger things have happened. Edwards v O'Neill fighting for a starting spot wouldn't be bad thing. I presume that McGarry will "mentor" De Silva in the No.10 role this year.

I'm just thinking about where we need to make signing for the new season, at the moment this is how we are looking for coverage:
GK: Vukovic, Duncan
LB: Jamieson
CB: Thwaite, Pantalidis, Clisby
RB: Risdon
DM: Burns, McGarry, O'Neil, Edwards, Thwaite, Panta
AM: McGarry, Da Silva, Cernak, Edwards
LW:
RW: Harold, Zahra, Cernak, Makeche?
ST: Smeltz, Harold, Makache
So it looks like we desperately need that left winger. Some of the right sided boys could fill in there, but it's not ideal. Someone young, fast and left footed would be perfect. Also, someone to give us another option in that front third, Jamie McLaren and James Meyer are both available. And a defensive utility, would can play left or right back. Someone in the mould of Hingert, Cole or even Susak. Also, a quality CB would be a great addition.

Yeap, clearly. Either we secure Nagai once more - where the dispute over 'February end' seems to have left a deal on tenterhooks? Or Glory seek to utilise that VISA spot on another LW of similar or better quality?
You left Travis Dodd out from your list, unless you guys are more up-to-date on that scenario? Has he been released?! Otherwise he's still contracted to the club, for this season.
Clearly the team has a few VISA spots free. IF Glory can't secure a quality Aussie CB like Djulbic or Madaschi, then surely a VISA spot will be utilised there, as we've discussed before. Essentially a replacement for Van Den Brink.
DM/CM may need a VISA quality talent there, given the departures of Miller and Cordoba. Whether McGarry is AM or partnering Burns, Glory need a VISA quality talent in there. Hopefully De Silva can push through this season for ever more minutes and even starts, especially as McGarry enters his mid-30s and is surely only a season or two away from retirement. The likes of McGarry should be helping to groom De Silva, O'Neill, Edwards and co.
Then again, Edwards COULD be satisfied with his CM options, especially if he feels Cameron Edwards and/or Brandon O'Neill are ready for the step up? Cernak being about too, whether we like it or not, he will surely feature as an AM or DM during the season aswell?
Upfront Glory clearly need to utilise another VISA spot on a striker to either rotate with Smeltz (Push him for his place) or even support him if there's a 2 upfront scenario? Essentially replacement for Mehmet, but maybe slightly different style of player - most position ally adaptive, like capable of being a winger too?
Richard Garcia would be a big signing, it would mean that upfront is essentially sorted and Garcia also provides more depth/options for AM and even wide too? He essentially = VISA quality and so Glory would not even have to utilise their full VISA quota, just like the Mariners in the past few seasons - that would be a change?

Dodd is out for the season (injury) thus I didn't include home, but he is contracted.
Garcia I agree would be a huge injection for us in the front third. Would link up with Smeltz very well, and brings the wide players into the game well too. We are just stuck on this winger issue, I suspect we won't get Nagai back unfortunately, and credit to Edwards in not just taking the easy option and signing him til February. I'd really like to see us pick up: Garcia Meyer McLaren Djulbic Visa LW.
I think I could be pretty happy with that.
