I wouldnt call giving friendly advice as enabling him, but I dont think "harden up" is suitable for every case either.

Personally Im happy I didnt grow up with 24hr access to the internet and forums. Spending time with yourself is always beneficial to help form your identity and character.
I agree mate, its a different world that I was lucky to be a part of. I joined the forums as a 15 year old and have developed my shitposting ever since.

I actually think that it would be easier to grow up these days, dont get me wrong. I assume bullying and violence was much worse before. These days it seems you can be accepted any way you are, where as before you had to conform to fit in because especially as a teenager the only people you knew were from your school, sports teams etc or work.

I'm not sure whether to be amused by the animosity towards Waleed Aly or concerned by the lack of tolerance in Australian society which it indicates.

WGMG: dislike/disinterest for a minority figure is considered bigotry by a large portion of society.

Oh in this instance it's not definitely bigotry. It might not be. But, in all likelihood, it's bigotry pure and simple.

Heaven forbid a brown, Muslim, who's incredibly well-rounded, erudite and well-educated goes about arguing against their agenda with a lot of eloquence.

In many ways, yes. But I think the saturation of (social) media doesn't help absolutely everybody. Some find it great, but others would probably do well if they were unhooked from their computers.

There's a bunch of shit in my life that I can't do anything about, even if I tried, and I've tried fixing the things in my life that can technically be fixed, but nothing's changed.

I don't know what else to do, apart from "whinge".

You keep trying. I know you've told me about things that you haven't posted on here, and those things can't be cured, but they can be managed. Focus less on "fixing" things, and more on just doing whatever you can to improve them. Venting and complaining about things can be useful for a while, but you eventually have to just get on with it regardless.

Not overnight like you're expecting. Like we've all said. Your 16. Stop worrying about the meaningless shit. Here's a bit of truth - you don't need to have a huge group of friends. High School is nothing more than a blip on he radar of life. I'm 6 years out of the joint, and of all the people I went to high school with, I'm only friends still with 2 maybe 3. I've made more friends though the 6 years of my adult life than I did in high school. Heck, I've made more friends through this bloody forum than I did at high school. I certainly wasn't Mr. Big or Mr. Popular. I got through it. You're not the only one who has issues around them. We all do, we all get through them. It's calling maturing. Each difficult aspect of your life is merely just a little hurdle. You have a lot of maturing to do, and it's not going to happen by tomorrow morning. It's not going to happen by the end of the week, it's not going to happen by the end of the month, or the end of the year. You will however learn from the experiences you face.

Once you leave school, whenever you choose to do so, and start living life an adult, you'll realize how minuscule your problems now are, then. Start being the bigger man now, and making the right decisions for yourself. Don't know what you want to do with yourself? Congratulations, you're one of many children who don't know what they wanna do with themselves until they finish school. But until then, work at something you're good at. Before you retort with 'Burt, erm nurt gud et anyfing', work towards a goal at school that you enjoy. And before you throw the same 'woe is me' bullshit again, there's always at least 1 class at school you'll enjoy. Still don't like it? Look at enrolling in a TAFE Course, and finding something there you enjoy.

If you're not happy with your life, the most mature thing you can do is take it by your hands and form it yourself. It's your life. You do what you want with it. Mummy isn't going to be there to hold your hand along the way for much longer, or kiss you on the cheek when you fall over and graze your knee. Sitting down, whining, and feeling sorry for yourself over situations you can change yourself isn't going to solve the problem.

Salmon you need to keep persisting. I know you have poor social skills, but if you keep trying to talk to others, you will eventually get better and people will start to want to talk to you. I used to be socially awkward back in primary to middle school. Only when I got to high school did I start becoming someone likeable.

No disrespect to anyone here, but when I was 16 (12 years ago now) all we did was play runescape and mine for gold on that game

Can't help but feel a lot has changed. Which is why my advise is almost pointless I would be way out of my depth to suggest what to do as what I used to do was hip.... Now it is not so much hip.

WGMG: stupid builders who think that when they underquote they can ask for more money and when they overquote they still get what they asked for.
Our land includes fencing, our fences weren't up when the housing developer quoted and they quoted for 3 temporary fences but we actually only need one and they only installed one, so they should refund for the other two minus installation etc... but they try to claim its a "flat rate"... so then i say why specify the number of fences. Argh!
Still going to hassle them for every cent i can save though.

WGMG: I think I'm losing my mind. I can't concentrate on anything. My mind is just about always clouded. Short term memory is fucked for some reason (honestly struggling to remember things that were said just seconds ago during conversations because my brain simply isn't storing it). I know depression and anxiety can cause these cognitive issues and I'm pretty sure it is in this case, but it's really fucking with me that I normally remember absolutely everything and I've always been fairly smart, yet now I pretty much have the mind of a goldfish.

I felt like this the week just passed having worked 12 hours a day under pressure.

I drink green tea, 5 or 6 cups a day. Have you tried it? It helps slow my mind down a bit so I can think.
