Mostly unpaid positions. I've also been applying for grad roles in hope that they will let me do my work experience there and then stay on in the grad position. Some of them have told me that instead of the 10-15 applications they were expecting in the first few days they put the ad up they were swamped with more than 50.

Insurance issues aside, it's hard enough to get work in the industry. From someone who's been in the same situation (except swap work exp for grad role), keep trying. It will pay off.

Are the insurance issues because you've offered to work for free?

That's a little quid-pro-quo for calling out my night/nigh typo in the love thread <3 :lol:

Its most annoying when people go to class for a couple of hours and deliberately don't log off but lock the computer so they don't have to wait for a licence when they got back. After a while we started going around and pulling out the power point of all the computers that were locked.

It was frustrating enough watching guys in the A-League push him around, let alone some of the defences in Asia. I think taking on the likes of Vidic, Luiz and Vermaelen would just be embarrassing to watch. Like chum to the sharks.

I was just doing a bit of creative writing, had some ideas bouncing around in my head. I wrote a few down but then it just tried up like Joan River's vagina. There's a heap more ideas rattling around in there but I'm buggered if I know how to segue from the introduction I'm fleshing out into the core plot I've got. All I can think is that maybe I need to re-read 'Dandy in the Underworld' and watch some Californication to inspire the right tone.

Not sure, but it'd be interesting to see.

Yeah, not cheap. I did a couple of construction management courses at uni and we were lucky enough to be able to access this through the uni online library system, as opposed to actually having to buy it. The downside was that only a few people could be logged in at any one time, so sometimes you had to wait for someone to log off.

WGMG: I do so many favours for people but when it's their turn to help me, the cunts whinge before running in the opposite direction as fast as they can.

Champions League football at Leverkusen though. And the guy isn't the most physical player around, dunno how he'd manage with the EPL.

WGMG: Writing, smashing out a page in 5-10 minutes and then the words just stopping dead. The ideas are there but I have no idea how to link to the ideas.

Yeah, I've got a couple who do that all the time. I'm not sure what pisses me off more, when they're obviously in the same room as each other and have to advertise their affection on facebook, or when they go "OMG, Spud left for work 10 minutes ago and I already miss them!"

Oh 100% true, the way our world works this feeds on itself, it just shouldn't. It is inefficient! :P

I studied software engineering for example, got honors. Did this help me get a job? Of course. Did it make me a better developer? God no. In fact it probably made me worse by beating conformity into me.

If I ran my own software firm (ie: wanted to flush my entire financial future down the crapper gunning for the one-in-a-million lucky break that made me rich) I'd have one or two other senior developers and actively recruit the rest of my staff out of high school. The industry changes too quickly for rigid tertiary education, I'd rather a young kid with passion who is willing to be mentored and go on short training courses than someone with a piece of paper that says "I can follow the system adequately"

Unfortunately most business won't hire someone who doesn't have proof of understanding the concepts. I can't say I blame them. That said, due to the way tertiary education is set out in this country, most degrees aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Unfortunately, I don't believe this is how it works in our current society, and so I really have no choice but to push myself through uni one 'night before' assignment at a time :lol:

Honestly university education is highly overrated and over-valued. There are certain fields where tertiary education is necessary but the vast majority of disciplines would be better served with on the job training. Universities, however, love money and are all too keen to push the "If you are smart or want to be successful you need a degree" line.

Simply a matter of laziness on my part :lol: the system failed by letting me in really.

Streetz, it's just an academic writing assignment (Business), but the essay is on child labour and ethical codes of conduct

It's kind of sad how many people on this forum have problems with their uni course of choice. A sure sign that the system is failing.
