WGMG: Spending 5 hours without being able to get our program code to work. Even when we copied letter by letter someone else's program that worked we got errors. Matlab just doesn't like us.

WGMG: Being told I haven't contributed enough to a assignment by a group member. I have spent around 24+ hours over the past week researching my part only to be able to get around 600 words. He got 1000 words but what he got I could pretty much copy from wikipedia.

If you want to go to this thing, then id say tell any guy you go with (assuming you dont like them) one of these guys and tell that you dont like them and that youd just be going as 'friends' or whatever.

I thought I'd traveled back in time to my own formal problems.

Go with the Zac guy. It would suck to be alone at a formal. Seeing as he doesn't know a lot of girls, he might be good with it but at the same time, he may really want a date. I would've hated to be single at mine.

However, I think its a bit poor to be saying that we suck. Ever heard of a thing called patience?

True. I mean, at the end of the day, you're not going to care who you go to formal with too much, you'll be busy ripping up the d-floor and downing that cordial. If you go with his Zac geezer, at least you'll have someone to dance/hang out with, but if you wait for the other guy you may get let down.

Gotta make some calls today and find out what the problem might be... if it's gonna need a new part I'm absolutely farked. If its just wiring or something it shouldn't be too bad.

But the thing is, I really don't get why guys have such a big problem going by themselves, or going with mates. Heaps of people in my year didn't bring a date to the ball.
Apparently he won't go if he doesn't have a date, which is why I'd feel so bad saying no, even though I don't actually know him. Argh this whole situation is pretty messed up!

It's because there is a lot of pressure on guys to get a girl. Guys respect those who can get a girl, and those who can't kind of lose respect points. It's harder being a boy in this situation, because they're always trying to win respect. I know guys shouldn't care, but we do. I highly doubt there are many guys who would want to go to their ball as a group of friends, because they all want dates. I can understand him not wanting to go if he doesn't have a date, because its likely the majority of boys will have one and he will feel left out. I had this same frustration, and it annoyed me girls saw it differently. They don't fully understand the pressure guys are under to get a date, look cool and fit in.

In all honesty. If every single F, A and C# doesn't work...sounds like the chip/board has gone (pure speculation).

I guess the main attraction for the girls is to get all dressed up and look gorgeous, and pretty much make it all about them, so dates don't matter as much to us. I get what you're saying, but it's stupid for guys to continually try to be out doing each other. I hate that. If I went to a ball, I'd like to have a date to go with, but I wouldn't not go without one.

It isn't an outdoing thing. I'd hardly consider wanting to fit in trying to best someone else. The main attraction for a guy isn't getting dressed up and the promise of a date entices them to want to go more. If there was a no dates rule, I'd still go, but IMO its better with dates.

From experience you fit in a lot less by not going at all.
So I'm assuming you think I should go with this guy? Bearing in mind that he hasn't even got any idea of what I look like, and I haven't texted him in over a year.

If you don't want to, don't. Simple as that. If you're not sure, I say go for it. You haven't got anything to lose. Remember, i hadn't talked to my date for 5 years when I was partly forced into doing it. I hadn't seen any pictures of her. I just had to go on a girl saying how beautiful she was (and lets face it, they were hardly going to call her ugly) And she turned out to be great.

The whole thing is that I don't know if I want to or not :( I'm so confused, and I'd feel totally guilty if I didn't, because (being brutally honest) he sounds like a bit of a loser. My friend did a quick facebook stalk of him in class, and he only has 3 female friends on facebook, one being his sister, and another being a teacher of his.

If you aren't sure, don't go. Make sure you aren't going to be having second thoughts about it, because you don't want to discover you don't want to go and have to tell him that. Or DO NOT say you'll think about it. Don't keep the guy on the hook.

Haven't even talked to him but yeah, the thing is if I do start texting him and meeting up with him a couple of times and all and then decide not to go with him, I'd imagine that he'd be crushed. Everyone says he's really unattractive too, and I'm not as vain as most girls, but well I'd still like to have a hot date for my first ball.

WRGMG: My so called "friends" bitching about me behind my back. I mean, I figured all along that they would be, but it's one thing to guess it could be happening and another to be told by a real friend who overheard them doing it. It's pretty pathetic that it made me cry I guess.

Ive noticed girls seem to do this quite a bit. (not to steroetype or anything, guys do it aswell, but dont seem to be quite so scathing) its just ive noticed a lot that when one of a group is abscent the rest take it in turns to bag out the missing one.
