Not being involved in junior football, I would like to hear your opinions of Foster's comments. Is he right? Or would you like to see something different?

Let the bleeding begin.:)

Well Foster has been calling for something like this for ages. He seems impressed and happy about what is going to be implemented.

It is a step in the right direction, thats for sure. I have watched my cousin play u10, 11, 12 etc on a full sized pitch and its just hoofing the ball from the back and running. Its crap and not much skill at all. There is no midfield play, no nice passing, or possession at all. And these are the upper divisions too. A smaller pitch would be much better for that age group, and the u5,6,7 should be on a much smaller one than they are on (which is like Futsal size, too big for those kiddies). The size of the makeshift pitches they have at half time at SFC games is perfect for the really young kids.

Lets hope the document addresses coaching techniques as well, because theres no point in fixing the youth system and leaving the coaches the same as they are now. A whole new approach to the game and style of play is needed if we are ever to compete at a club and international level.

Its a step foward that for sure,

Momumentus step fwd from what has been happening in the past decade.

Slowly the way football is being played is changing,

Just a few things tho

This is mainly for the techniqual development of individual players, but still need to address the quality of coaching.

Something definately need to be done about the state and quality of coaches, the education of coaches, that i believe is our next step to developing better quality football in Australia.

the more kids have the ball at their feet and the smaller the spaces the better it will be for their skill level later on - its really only a logical step forward that should have happened ages ago tbh

ave any of you guys coached rep kids from the ages of 9 - 16? I have coached them and the guy is dead wrong. Go to a reps match and watch the kids trust me if I told themat training to "hoof the ball up field don't pass" they would literally laugh in my face. They use the midfield and they have a good touch for their age. Fozzie is talking shit as usual from his bunker at SBS. MAybe he should go watch some rep kids play one Saturday next season.

He's been orgasming over Arsenal's sexy style and wants to impose that style on younger kids because he is a sick sick man.

your taking his words too literally because it suits your argument better. he doesnt mean dont pass and he doesnt mean long ball every time. you say they have good touch for their age, in comparison to what? to whats been coming through in aus for 20 years? hes talking about improving and catching up to the standard of the rest of the world.

Compared to the rep kids who are my age. That is no joke. You can't say the coaching is not improving because it is. The kids I coached last year have a better first touch than 17 year olds I know hwo have played reps so that speaks volumes for the improvements in coaching in the last 5 years alone.
