Neill now linked with Atletico Madrid

Former West Ham captain Lucas Neill is now being linked with Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The Australian international, who is currently a free agent after his contract with the Hammers expired at the end of last season, is reportedly close to joining Atletico according to The Sun.

It is believed that Neill has been offered £1.56million a year by the Spaniards which would be £5,000 less than what he was offered by West Ham to return to Upton Park.

Although the initial figure is less, Neill will only be taxed 20 per cent in Spain, meaning he will actually receive over £300,000 more than if he remained in England.

Britain's 50 per cent rate for high earners comes in next April.

Question is, do we play Emo at RB or RW with Bresicano as RM. Lone striker is Mark Viduka's if he returns No questions asked. (even a half Mark viduka, if that makes sense). Because thats what system Pim will play and he wont change it not even for the WC.

But atm im not a big fan of bres, he is very slow. and his quality on the ball hasnt been good as of late. Emerton Gives us some pace at RW and his quality crosses are second to none. Hes also not a bad FK taker as Aston Villa found out last season.

Re: Bolded part: Thats incorrect. A half fit Mark Viduka is close to useless. Every time you hear the pundits talking about him returning, they always precede it with 'a fully fit'. Dukes is the kind of player who needs to be at the peak of his game physically to be effective. Otherwise, he gets tired after 30mins, and nobody wants a player on the pitch who is like that.

Would you prefer Mcdonald to play LS or perhaps Joshua Kennedy, against Brazil or Argentina. LOL @ THAT. Theyll lose the ball every time, especially mcdonald who is only 5 8. Im just hoping viduka plays and is fit. His achilles has had plenty of time to heal. Its just a matter of getting back to fitness.

A fully fit Kennedy or McDonald is a far greater asset than a half-fit Viduka. A fully fit Viduka was a hand-full for defences in the past - but no matter how good he may have appeared at the end of last season, it's an unavoidable fact that with an array of attacking quality around him he was still unable to score or make any goals in that run in. I believe 'flattered to deceive' is the term.

He seemed to do fine at Middlesbrough, Fulham and Liverpool, This is about playing football in the world cup. Viduka brings an added dimension. Lets be realistic. Kennedy will get flicked over by a decent teams defense, ive seen him play as LS for Karlshrue, and thats why his manager put him out for 6 months because he was so ineffective and not scoring goals. And mcdonald IS plain and simply not a lone striker.

Viduka is one of the best Hold up players on his day and the world cup requires his wealth of experience and his strength to bring the 3 midfielders into play. THATS why, Kewell, Cahill and Emerton said they would love to have Viduka back.

We need him. Many on here (not all), fail to realize his importance to the formation that pim uses. It still baffles me.

Height isnt excessively important. If they can bring the ball down on their chest and hold men off, then they play the role well.

What? he created martins with 2 golden opportunities 7 yards out in the Villa game before martins blasted it over the bar. Need i mention his MOM performance against Boro, he also scored against Fulham only for the fuckwitt referee to rule it out for no apparent reason.

Mcdonald always mentiosn he prefers a strike partner. Hes not comfortable in that role and nor should he be. He is a box striker (and a good one). But Pim wont play with him up front with a partner. Otherwise id obviously prefer Mcdonald with Viduka or kennedy.

If we are to play LS at the world cup, then a fit (Fingers crossed), Mark Viduka will take precedence every time and rightfully so.

I guess well find out then in the coming week or so if Neill joins Atletico or not or if Dukes joins West Ham or not.. I make these threads because they are interesting Not becasue they are factual. You would be a fool to think otherwise. Why wouldnt you want to read about Neill Joining altetico?

Who cares, as long as it gets him a club, and West ham aint to shabby (alot better than fulham, who cant even get the ball to their strikers) and certainly neither is Atletico. If they both join their rumored club, then i will be a happy man. Means that all the the people in the Above line up will be playing top class football in all very good leagues and very good clubs in the lead up to the WC.

The only worry i have is who will partner neill in defense. I tentatively put Moore due to his experince. But hes not exactly playing top flight football and even then hasn't been his best as of late. That position is a real problem for us.
