Football NSW can officially announce that the 2010 NSW Premier League will consist of twelve (12) teams, inclusive of the Rockdale City Suns which has gained promotion after winning the tightly contested NSW Super League Competition this season.

Wollongong Community Football Club has retained its position in the NSW Premier League competition despite finishing bottom of the NSW Premier League Club Championship.

The Board of Football NSW in making the decision not to relegate Wollongong Community Football Club did so, on the basis that the position of the club is but one consideration in determining the criteria for inclusion in the NSW Premier League.

The 2010 NSW Premier League will consist of the following entities –

Legal Entity (Brand Name)

APIA Leichhardt Tigers Football Club Inc. (APIA Leichhardt Tigers)
Bankstown City Football Club Inc. (Bankstown City FC)
Blacktown City Demons Inc. (Blacktown City Demons)
Bonnyrigg White Eagles Sports Club Ltd (Bonnyrigg White Eagles)
Canterbury Marrickville Olympic Soccer Football Club Ltd (West Sydney Berries)
Manly United Football Club Ltd (Manly United)
Club Marconi of Bossley Park Social Recreation & Sporting Club (Marconi Stallions)
Rockdale Ilinden Soccer Club Inc. (Rockdale City Suns)
Sutherland Sharks Football Club Inc. (Sutherland Sharks)
Sydney United Football Club Pty Ltd (Sydney United)
Sydney Olympic Football Club Ltd (Sydney Olympic)
Wollongong Community Football Club Pty Ltd (Wollongong CFC)
Many of the clubs were granted conditional entry into the league and are on notice that their performance against the criteria for participation in the NSW Premier League will be under review during the 2010 Season.

Each club has been notified that its inclusion in the NSW Premier League competition obligates them to be a committed partner to the implementation of the business plan upon which the current competition was established.

The criteria for the NSW Premier League competition was established by the Football Committee Report of July 2005.

The Chief Executive Officer of Football NSW, Mr. Michael Quarmby, commented as follows;

“Management had provided to me five possible scenarios for the makeup of the NSW Premier League. Those scenarios included a competition which could comprise of eight (8), ten (10), or twelve (12) teams. It would not be unfair to say that a number of clubs have significant challenges when weighed against the criteria established for the NSW Premier League Competition. Those Clubs have been advised of what is required of them to maintain their presence in the NSW Premier League beyond the 2010 season. While Football NSW will work to assist those Clubs, the fundamental responsibility does rest with those individual entities.”

“Clearly, the focus of our NSW Premier League Standing Committee will need to be on measuring the overall performance of the Clubs as a collective in meeting the identified criteria established for the NSW Premier League. To assist in this process, it has been a condition of participation that each club be a committed partner to the implementation of the structure and business plan developed for the NSW Premier League. In this regard, we have issued each Club with the report and recommendations upon which the current competition was based.”

“Ultimately, the NSW Premier League is about quality and not quantity. This needs to be the approach if the NSW Premier League is to maintain its pre-eminent position as the key competition which underpins the development of players for the A-League.”

The Board is committed to the implementation of the report and recommendations which had been prepared to ensure Football NSW could meet the Mission Statement for its flagship competition – ‘To create an exciting, vibrant football competition with commercial appeal, comprised of viable, professionally administered clubs working closely with their district communities, the football family and Football NSW to build the image of the competition’.

So Rockdale in Penrith out.

Wollongong stay in despite them finishing last in the comp. Apparently Penrith go down because of not paying players and such.

Also Almir Dizdaric has left Bonnyrigg White Eagles and signed with Bankstown City Lions

What's the promotion and relegation setup? Quite a few old NSL clubs in this competition.
What's the standard like compared to HAL?

Basically any of the bottom 7 who don't make the finals are up for relegation and then it's down to financials.

Like this year Wollongong finished last but Penrith got relegated due to not paying players so Rockdale get promoted as they finished first in the Super League which is the division below.

The standard isn't to bad players like Brendan Gan, Pedj Bojic, Shannon Cole, Mile Jedinak and Labinot Haliti have come out of the leage in recent years.

They also have some decent players playing at the moment. At Sydney United that have Ante Milicic as Player-manager who has been immense this season. Also they brought back David Zdrillic who has revelled in a more midfield role. Both those players showed this year that they are a step above the State League.

Then you've got players like Nick Stavroulakis, Panny Nikas and Jimmy Bakis at Sutherland who are also a step above.

So if all the financials are in order then the bottom club gets relegated?

I'm surprised to see APIA there with all the upheaval they have had.

Actually i'm not sure if the bottom club then gets releghated even lol the past few seasons has just been because of financial insecurity.

Wollongong I know 2 seasons had big troubles they won the title then went bankrupt and are know known as Wollongong Community FC and owned by the community no long Wollongong Wolves.

Penrith being dropped could be linked to Messiner failed a-league bid as he last year bought out Penrith during financial difficulty...turns out he has no money either!

So money evidently is extremely tight. Imagine what it is in the leagues below this.

So on this forum there are a few individuals who talk about crowd trouble due to ethnic issues. Is it a big problem in this league? What sort of crowds do you get?

Anywhere from 200 to about 2k... depending on who is playing. Ethnic clubs generally do well with bringing the crowds in.

From 200 to 2000 people. So we are talking about a league that gets roughly the same crowd as Scottish Division 3. That league is forever struggling financially.

Are the ex NSL teams the big guns of this league? I also suppose you have a Top 4 semi final system which ends in a Grand Final winner takes the championship?

The teams are pretty even... none really dominate however Sydney United did well this year, even though they got knocked out in the preliminary final. Marconi lost to Sutherland Sharks in the grand final.

Money is a hot topic... clubs are certainly struggling, but clubs like Bonnyrigg White Eagles get decent attendances by their ethnic Serbian community and are probably doing better than most... Canteen is always full and usually get decent crowds.

Btw its a top 5 semi final system.

well at least blacktown kept their postion. just.
there was an article here in the blacktown local papaer, sayin an italian buy bought out the club for about 3m, i think it was. so lucky we kept our license.
also this promotion thing is shocking. melita have been in 3 grand finals in a row, and lost out on first due to goal difference. if a team has been consistant in the state league its got to be them.

I gather the winner if the State League Grand Final gets promoted?

Do you guys like the fact that there is a semi final system or would you prefer the Champions to be the first past the post or what they call in League the minor premiers?

not even that. Spirit FC won the grand final. rockdale got kocked out in the semis.
nah i like the final series. i would just like FNSW to be consistant. either come out at the beginnging of the season and say the team that are minor premiers will be promoted, or the team that wins the grand final gets promoted. that way everyone knows

yeah thats the guy. the guy who owns Lily Homes business is the guy that bought it. apparently his son played for blacktown city. and that because blacktown city were just a football club, without politics. which tbh i find it hard to believe. every club has politics. but none the less, got to be grateful to the bloke

I agree. Before a ball is kicked every club must know the ins and outs of promotion and relegation and how the standings are decided especially for and against.

they cant do a blanket decision because there are so many boxers that need to be ticked in order to play in the highest division, things like fencers around the ground, owning the ground they play at,(i know blacktown dont own there ground but for example fairfield bulls who play division 2 play at hajduk's ground who are in division 1 now atm fairfield could never get promoted to division 1 because no 2 teams are allowed to play at the same ground if there in the same comp, it wouldnt matter how many times fairfield win the comp they would need to find a new home ground,) And someteams cant afford to play in premier league, where it cost's more to pay players and costs more to pay the admittance fee to footballnsw,

Sounds like a mess. In the lower non leagues in England the same things happen. Teams can't get promoted because they can't satisfy the criteria for the higher division.

thats right, i play for a divison 2 team and i know our club would find it hard to tick all the boxers to get promoted to divison 1,

The higher you go the more boxers you need to tick and some clubs cant afford/sustain it,

in that case then go to the next highest finisher, or the runner up if they want to conider the finals series.
at least this way the supporters know whats on the line for their team.
yeah i know theres alot of criteria that has to be met, but if FNSW comes out and says "the team that finishes first in the league will be promoted. if this team can not fit the criteria, then its the next highest team able to fit the critera", then i would have no issues at all.
