that's hilarious... that's the last team they'd wanna play, although after what's happened tonight i think it'd be a St George v Gold Coast grand final, which i'd be happy with because atleast then you would of had two teams from the top four and for the most part consistent and more importantly good football teams instead of those who are off the cuff and are really quite average i.e Penrith

Edited by gooner4life_8: 12/9/2010 12:18:32 AM nobody gives a shit about the rugby... i watched the swans match but continued to flick back and forth between the two league matches, the a-league and the epl and still didn't check the rugby scores... but that easts game was exceptional, Braith how good is he, always thought Braith was a quality footballer who has been criminally under-rated and attacked in the media, started going for Wests but Braith's field goal was just ridiculous :d so ended up going for easts by the end it, felt like goo  Go Canberra though, the team is practically just a bunch of country kids giving it a go

I'm happy because apart from Easts and Manly I wouldn't mind seeing any of the teams win.

I had my head in my hands watching, watching, watching that ball sailing ahead...the commentator screams he's got it, half of Wagga hears me roar YEEES! then i proceed to do a lap of the house. Kenny Dowalls try made me run laps of the house screaming 'YES', then run outside cheering. Over-reaction? I think not.

Kenny Dowalls try made me run laps of the house screaming 'YES', then run outside cheering. Over-reaction? I think not. and that sort of did keep them in the finals in hindsight but the thing is what would of been a great shame is if this game could have potentially really meant nothing, so it's good that the result really mattered... they really should change the finals to the afl system, the nrl (i cant remember what its called the mccarthur or something system?) is just so utterly fucked because you can have games where it actually doesn't matter, if Penrith won tonight the easts wests game wouldn't of really mattered to the make up of the finals... and the AFL system most of the time does get you better match ups (although the finals so far have been brilliant)... and the thing is that Canberra get a home final is abit ridculious, like i find it funny and im happy they do because i like canberra but a team that comes 7th should never get a home final, and yet they have, you should get more reward for coming top four, because it's actually possible for teams 4 and 3 to be knocked out (although this has never happened, it is a major flaw that it is possible) in the first week of the finals. Aswell you get more marquee games (it's hard to argue about quality after seeing the two games tonight) but the top four playing each other in the first week is a pretty big selling point when the tv deal comes around... although this year i think the top eight does lack the league's big teams, parramatta, canterbury, melbourne and brisbane aren't playing so it's abit eh having wests, penrith and the warriors make the eight and you could probably argue canberra aswell

I agree with the finals system, I really like the AFL style, I'd be happy if NRL changed to it from the McIntyre system for next year.
In regard to the 'big' team not being there...well yeah it does lack them, but youre not gonna get in there unless youre competitive enough of course. And well Melbourne, they brought it upon themselves. I'd count Tigers as a big team though.

A team that makes the finals only twice in 10 years is not a big team. +1 they have a large base of supporters but are nowhere near consistent enough in making the finals... last year was a really good finals series in the terms that teams that have been dominant over the last decade made the eight and that it brought something new with the Gold Coast having a home final against Brisbane... and the thing is you had a few actualy good teams that could win it, Melbourne, Parramatta, St George, Canterbury and Brisbane... now i don't think the Gold Coast have improved too much but instead of being just short of being a contender there probably the 2nd best bet behind st george, it shows how the quality has rapidly dropped over the past season which is a trend that has been on for the last couple of years... why can't we have dynasties like the AFL does, the AFL had the Port Power, Brisbane and Essendon dynasties at the start of the decade, followed by West Coast and Sydney and the four year dominance of Geelong... the league i suppose you could argue Easts at the start of the decade followed by Melbourne and Manly but ehh, teams rosters can be destroyed alot easier in the league than the afl

WFMB: brighton beating MK dons 2-0 and being 7th in the league, two ponits off top spot, it's amazing how poyet has turned the club around since around this time last year, relegation battlers at the start of one season starting to dream about promotion at the start of the next :)
