An aging marquee like Pirlo, whose form is on the downturn is certainly not the answer. Results seems like the only means for a sustained increase in crowds now. Lost 5-1 the other morning to galaxy

Another big season win. 8-0 to Oakleigh
Still need to see franjic on the park. However good signs from the prickly pear seems like a good signing at this point. Maybe not as good as a FBK at victory but time will tell. Would look to see Gamerio on the pitch more however not to be rushed back from an injury. Last year we had hype new owners and Villa coming down had us at the start of the season favourites I think it was.
HOWEVER now we seem to clear more deadwood from Heart days we are moving forward. Novillo Hughes Franjic Zullo Gameiro prickly pear and Sorensen to name a few newbies. Have us playing a style I haven't seen since day 1.
Koren has found the net a few times in the pre season and Partalu seems to of stepped up a bit which is great.
So all in all looking like we are in good shape.
Ive siged it from scott21 but I think one way or another Melbourne will hold a chest of trophies this season. I hope its the city way thou..
Also the sad news for some. Germano our last soul survivor from the original heart days has been let go. Good player but took up a visa and was always injured. So it had to happen for us to move forward as a club.

Obviously i didn't see last night's game but City seem to be getting some good results in pre season with a few quality players still to come in . City have the squad this year to make an impact they looked good against man city in the friendly and against pheonix in the cup the other week. Is this the year we see two quality Melbourne and Sydney teams. I am happy to see City do well as they have the potential to be a massive club. I would love to see a friendly between new york city and melbourne city. Edited by vincenzogold: 10/9/2015 10:50:45 AM

The FA cup win against NIX was a good step to that and the friendly wins are a good sign too especially with some outs still to come in. We will never be as big as victory in the near future. But if they play attractive style and attacking style keep winning we will be in good shape. membership isn't far off last year even with the Villa hype.

I thought the performance yesterday was outstanding. Very good possession football (fast passing, accurate, and most passes were purposeful rather than meaningless/unnecessary), the work-rate of all the players was excellent and there were no passengers (everyone was useful).
I agree Koren and Paartalu ar improving and I'm pretty hopeful that they'll both be much better next season.
It was sad to see Germano leave. I'd like to see the club create some new history and keep some of our current good players for a long time. Re-signing Mooy on a lucrative long term contract is a very good start.
There will be a match against New York City eventually IMO, and I'd really like to see it happen.

I expect City will be the dominant Melbourne club from now on, they have the right systems in place as the most professional club in the A League. Find it will have the largest supporter base within two seasons.

I was wondering what is the status with Steve Kuzmanovski? Such a regarded talent, but hasn't seen much senior football since his move to City? The club brought Fitzgerald in mid-season too, which just adds more experience infront. Corey Gameiro is their leading talent on the RW and he will hopefully be back to challenge next season too. James Brown also still about in the options. Kuzmanovski are Gameiro are both signed on till the end of next season - I wonder, with the lack of quality options at clubs like the Jets and Mariners especially, there should be demand for talents like they. Interesting perspective, thanks for that Helloworld. I think you could be proving right and Melb City's own recruiting seems to prove this - Their Foreign Marquee was a bust, but Mooy and their Non-Marquee VISAs, players approaching their prime, have really delivered.

Last week they played some shit football against Glory though. Didn't think I'd see it again this season after City's performances over this last month.

Quote:Fresh off a two week suspension stemming from an altercation with his partner, troubled Melbourne City FC star Harry Novillo has found himself at the centre of more controversy.
This time, a confrontation with teammate Jack Clisby.
There is no doubt the 24-year-old Frenchman is a talent but the majority of his teammates would like to see the back of him as he is perceived to be arrogant, undisciplined and not committed to the team cause.
While management is aware of the team’s gripes, coach John Van ’t Schip’s apparent unwillingness to act is alienating members of the squad. http://www.sportingnews.com/list/4698462-the-secret-agent-hotshot-a-league-striker-holding-melbourne-city-to-ransom/slide/2

I seem to recall a few years ago he had a run in with a glory payer at a training session.

clisby is starting to looks the goods. helps when you are not out of position and paired with kisnorbo. i cant believe JVS started chapman as a fullback against adelaide. may as well chuck bouzanis in. we have retre, garuccio, clisby, all doing a good job in it when called on.

we have retre, garuccio, clisby, all doing a good job in it when called on. Goes to show the depth we have, But not only that the value they have for the spot, With multiple players challenging for positions we are seeing a real hunger and desire between them, Last year we didn't see much depth. This year different story.

next year! who do you want to see bought in to take mooys marquee spot? i want fornaroli as one. we will have brattan in the centre with malik and caceres. im a big fan of all three but it just doesnt look like a very creative midfield. mooy, hughes, gameiro and novillo all likely to be gone. that's a lot of cash in the budget. hopefully JVS gets the flick as well and we can bring someone in who can use the squad. i vote mike mulvey - he did a cracking job at brisbane before the owners screwed him.

it's hard to read how they are leaning with JVS. they havent been linked to anyone other than Brattan. That would seem to me that they are not signing until they have a new manager. But it's a lot of releases in a relatively tight australian pool of players - you would think they would want the new boss to be involved in those decisions. I cant see how JVS would keep his job. I cant see any real signs that they are keeping him.

this is our first 11 so far - with the rumours and releases taken on board. I am happy with the clear out. There is still too much of a hangover from some of the shit under JVS and Aloisi in the heart days. -----------------------------Sorensen Franjic -----------NEWB-------------NEWB---------Zullo ----------------Malik-------------------Brattan --------------------------Marquee fitzgerald--------------Fornaroli----------------NEWB

Surely if JVS goes and Gombau doesnt replace him, the replacement would be someone already in the City networks? i cant see gombau as the coach to take them through to the ACL title in a hurry. maybe he is the guy to overhaul the squad and shift the attitude. he wouldnt be my first pick, but I would not be disappointed with his appointment. i think CFG have an opportunity to attract attention with a high profile ex player as coach, and they must be thinking about it. if they support them with a couple decent assistants it could work well.
