Where is Chapman rumoured to go? The kid had some much potential

its a rumour on here.. i haven't heard anything concrete yet. if JVS sticks around he might be better off elsewhere - i dont think he had a very good season. was more involved when we were conceding buckets of goals. maybe having kisnorbo gone will be enough.

there is a big arse clear out - so far every MFCF rumour i heard has come true this end of season.

Zullo - wont be going anywhere. most under acknowledged player in the HAL this season. had a massive impact as the season progressed. covered for novillo and was creative and threatening whenever the team was looking flat - which was a lot.

Gameiro - "EXACTLY 53 weeks after having his left knee reconstructed, Melbourne City’s Corey Gameiro has received the gut-wrenching news that he has suffered the same injury."

It looks like a massive cleanout happening, although they were 1 game from the GF and finished 4th its not like they need to make drastic changes anyway.

no particularly. no doubt he has potential. i will be excited by first 11 signings.

i will most excited when ([-o< ) they replace JVS - and i hope they dont sign too much without the new boss's input.

On signings - there's talk of milligan, rojas coming back to vic. there's also archie free. if we poached anyone of them i would be pretty happy. when there's talk I betchya it's not just one club looking.

wilkinson was a massive loss. we are going to have a tough time getting CB's when we need the marquee fund clear for fornaroli and an attacking midfield. i dont even know who is around to sign. maybe we can lure someone like jovanovic from the CSL if he is on the fringes of the NT and wants a look in for the coming world cup. would be a massive pay cut.

same for adrian leijer

JVS is staying. Kamau is his signing without a doubt- needs defenders and he signs a winger.

On the squad for next season, as it currently stands:

Coaching

JVS -- staying
Assistant coach -- ? (it's been reported that City "will [sign] a foreign assistant with English Premier League experience" )

GK's

Sorensen -- staying
Bouzanis -- re-signed, staying

Defenders

Franjic - staying
Kisnorbo - gone
Chapman -staying
Clisby - staying
Zullo - out of contract, has been offered a new deal
Hughes - gone
Malik - staying
Wilkinson - gone

Midfield

Melling - signed a new deal for 2 more seasons in January (a rumour though he could leave)
Garuccio - signed up for next season (a rumour though he could leave)
Retre - staying
Mooy - likely gone (due to substantial interest from overseas, esp. Europe)
Trifiro - gone
Fitzgerald - out of contract, has been offered a new deal (and will reportedly accept)
Caceres - loan spell finished (but reportedly will stay at City)

Forwards

Fornaroli - offered a marquee deal
Novillo - signed up for next season (but can reportedly leave if he gets a concrete offer/bid from France)
Kuzi - signed up for next season (speculation that he could go)
Dekker - gone
Marino - gone
Brown - gone
Kamau - signed up for the next two seasons

So by Melbourne City/Heart's standard, a small cleanout (7 or 8 players), instead of the club's normal big cleanouts (of 11 or 12 players).

Chapman is 100% staying. He signed a new 3 year deal in January, and given that he missed most of last season with a knee injury I don't see overseas clubs offering a lot of money for him.

I really hope Zullo stays. The club have reportedly offered him a new contract which he's considering. Fingers crossed.

Gameiro's signed up for next season, and I'm hoping he can be a good new recovery story of next season. Last season, Novillo, Franjic and Zullo were all injured for a few months each around the start of the season, and all went on to have pretty good seasons (especially given how long each of them were sidelined). Hopefully Gameiro can finally get over his injury woes and show his quality next season.

And on Kamau, I'm very happy with his signing. A lively winger, young, fit and rarely injured, and a goal threat. I think he'll compete for a starting sport with the likes of Fitzgerald, and maybe Gameiro, and will get the nod more often than not. Right now, our front 3 for next season looks like Novillo--Fornaroli--Kamau. Very happy with that.

agree that this stinks of JVS. but its not enough to prove that he is staying on as head coach.

I'm sorry to say that JVS is 100% staying on for next season. It was reported on Thursday that JVS and the club have decided to stick with each other for next season:
Quote:
Finally, on his own situation, van 't Schip said there was no doubt he would continue as head coach next season, saying he and CFG were "happy to continue with each other".
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/05/05/signatures-mooy-and-fornaroli-focus-city

The rest of last season's coaching staff has been sorted out. Luciano Trani was sacked, and Ivan Jolic quit to join his family back in Sydney (source). If CFG were going to sack JVS, they would have sacked him already.

Also, given that the club is already signing players for next season, like Bruce Kamau, and that JVS is in Europe scouting (source), it looks deadset certain that JVS will continue coaching next season (unfortunately), and some strong evidence would have to be provided to prove otherwise.

So for us Melbourne City supporters, we have to hope that CFG stack the team with quality players, and completely idiot-proof it for next season, so the team can win silverware regardless of who is coaching.

I would take a punt on promoting Cristaldo from the youth team, give him another shot at A-League level, has been performing well with the NPL team so he could possibly be apart of the plans next season. We also have Jacob Collard from Perth who recently signed from the Tassie NPL, who could do a job if need be.

However, I am totally unaware of anything JVS has planned for our defence. With two even three experienced battlers at the back gone it will be hard to see if he goes with experience, youth or Visa. I can definitely see Chapman starting, just unsure whether JVS likes Malik at CDM rather than at CB.

im not convinced. kamau would have been getting interest and so they signed him before someone else would. tell me a single coach that couldnt use a pacey wing with a heap of potential.

i havent seen a MCFC or CFG rep come out and say that JVS is still gonna be there.

they would not be making any comment until something is solid.

I've liked what I've seen from Cristaldo. I'd be happy if someone like him or Stefan Zinni was promoted to the senior squad, on minimal or low wages, for depth. With both Dekker and Marino gone, I'd be pleased to see one more one Australian attacker signed up to the senior team.

Very good point about the defence. It's the big question mark for next season ATM IMO. I'm pretty confident that JVS thinks that Chapman is a good A-League starter (and I'd agree), which is why he signed Chapman for 3 more years in January (despite Chapman even being sidelined with a long term knee injury at the time).
I reckon JVS will be scouting for another experienced Visa CB. Another Aaron Hughes, effectively (although hopefully this time our foreign CB isn't so old, and so injured and... so bad). Hopefully CFG's scouts do better this time round.
My inkling about Malik is that JVS will continue to play him as a CDM, but JVS would play him as a CB if there was an injury or two (so effectively Malik will provide cover/depth for the centre of defence). JVS generally likes players to be able to play in at least 2 positions, so I'm sure he likes the flexibility that Malik provides, however I'm tipping Malik to pretty much be a CDM for all of next season.

So all up the defence will be pretty new-look next season. And most importantly Melbourne City will have to sign a top quality experienced Visa central defender, that Melbourne City can build its defence around, after losing Wilkinson, Kisnorbo and Hughes.

The club has also signed up Manny Muscat, and was quick to release Hughes, Wilkinson, Brown, Trifiro, Dekker and Marino. Someone must be making these decisions, and I'd say CFG will have JVS stick around for the final year left in his contract, which is why the club has already made the numerous decisions, and has made them so quickly.

On Melbourne City or CFG making a statement about JVS, I'd advise people not to hold their breath. The club (under CFG) makes incredibly few statements to the public, and seemingly only makes statements if they feel it is absolutely necessary to get some information out, and pretty much avoid a crisis or horrible PR. The club rarely issues statements just to keep supporters "in the loop" nowadays.

I expect the club to announce a new assistant coach from Europe in coming weeks, and that will be the club's way of saying that JVS will stick around for next season.

Any fresh news regarding anything Melbourne City lately??

I've been keeping a keen eye on our NPL list, and to be honest I feel for a lot of those lads, one in particular, is Phil Petreski, had absolute no chance at a gig in the seniors, he had all the talent to become a future replacement for Mooy... and now I hope gets a heap of senior time for Heidelberg in the top flight. he'd been at Heart/City for 5 years or something like that, what kind of message does that send to the other blokes in the NPL squad???

However, If JVS does actually promote a duo or trio it has to consist of either Yusuf Ahmed, Stefan Zinni and Chris Cristaldo, these guys continually stand out week in week out. City have scored a total of 14 goals in two weeks these guys being huge contributors to that stat ...

Finally though, Our defence is sloppy at the least. Starting from the keeper, Sozer, who I feel isn't quality enough at 21 years of age already. And the back four half the time look confused, and from what I've seen on highlights they've let a lot of comical goals in!! at the minute our youth team is not up to scratch, nowhere near victory's quality. I personally think it is up to the coaches not being experienced enough. Although it could also be down to the quality of player we're choosing from other NPL clubs?

A bit of an update...

Jacob Collard has joined Oakleigh Cannons... Not too sure whats happened there but good luck to him, maybe not up to A-League standard after all.

Considering we currently sit top of the NPL WEST standings and in the automatic promotion place, goes to show the quality of other teams in the league. Ahmed and Athanasiou were named in the team of the month for May, Athanasiou has been flying under the radar with his performances of late but seems to be developing into a great player.
If we do get promoted I am quite scared of what might happen.

Still don't know why there isn't a Abu Dhabi City. Seems like China. India isn't ready yet but probably a long term target.

our current first 11?

-----------------------------Sorensen
Franjic -----------Malik-------------Chapman---------Clisby
----------------Caceres------------------Brattan
------------------------------Cahill
Kamau/Fitzg--------Fornaroli----------------Novillo

Im pretty keen to see who the other secret marquee is that they have lined up. also the future head coach that was rumoured to be assisting this year.

If they bring in a gun marquee midfielder and a solid CB we are looking quite good. still a lot of folk on the melbourne football forum reckon the marquee is going to be Terry... Would make sense.

Aaron Hughes played for Northern Ireland last night. Was he constantly injured when he was with City or not considered good enough to get more game time last season?

both. i think he was injured and just didnt get full fitness. plus we had wilko at the end of season and JVS was too much of a stooge to drop kisnorbo who was probably responsible for half the goals we conceded last year.

righto mate... well done. I'm a keen contributor to the MV thread (in a positive way) so if you're going to contribute to the thread please do so in a way that shows your interest in not only the club (offering opinions about tactics, players and transfers) but also for your interest in Australian Football all around.

If not why post?
