+x+x+x+x+xI'm going to admit that Cahill was a strange signing at first from a footballing perspective at City, but he adds far more value than meets the eye.Yes, we already have a main striker option in Bruno but Cahill adds another dimension in his determination and drive that we have been lacking. It's certainly a huge investment though but in many ways it is no where near the failure some would like to paint it as. This, what the guy adds off the pitch in terms of his mentality and professionalism has clearly benefited the playing group, you could see it in the first two derbies of the season against victory, his determination to win, his aggressiveness, even the arguably 'dirty' street smarts he brings (dat elbow on Alan Baro lol) helps push the boys around him. i think its the first time that heart/city has had one of those players that can genuinely lift the players around them with just their presence and attitude, unlike Mooy who could often disappear when the pressure was on Good posts. Isn't he also going into some kind of coaching deal after his 2 years? Could be a good long term initiative, having him hanging around the club. Yeah, he will go under the cap next season and then move into a coaching role after that, i hope we bring in a quality coach that he can learn under during his coaching time here, similar to how Arteta is being mentored by Pep right now at Man City and how Vieira was brought through the CFG ranks to end up coaching in New York City. Sounds good to me, as long as he doesn't follow the Aloisi pathway, but I reckon CFG will handle thing better. yeah, i think CFGs global network will give Cahill more of an opportunity as a coach than Aloisi ever had during the cash strapped heart days. i don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, but What did everyone here think of Ruon Tongyik against Sydney FC on the weekend? i though he looked class for a player making his professional debut for city, very relaxed and composed on the ball, already shown more potential than Chapman imo and could get a good partnership going with jakobsen

+xWhat's the song played at the end of each City game? ^^ yep. Dont look back in anger.
Is Wellington diverse? Dont know, however this is a club that has no historical or existing link to a specific migrant group - Rusty Einstein
The negative stereotypes are perpetuated by people who either have no idea or are serving a vested interest; neither viewpoint should get anywhere near running Australian football - Ange Postecoglou

I think Ruons defending has been alibi in both games. Sydney had 15 shots against us last week. Victory had 5 clear cut chances another day they wouldve scored (berisha). Hes fine on the ball but his job is to defend and i dont think hes ready. 1st goal last night Ruon heads the ball up and gets out of position for the second header. Second goal he gets turned on edge of the box and nowhere to be seen for berishas tap in. Hes young and its not his fault hes been chucked in the deep end but if we are a team that wants to win and be at the top unlike previous years the coach cant be making decisions like this. Hence why we are 5 hours away of being 4th position 9 points behind syd and possibly 5 points behind victory if they win there catch up. Okay we won the cup but it means nothing when we are playing average in games. A Passing style in a nice style to watch, but do we want to win on the scoreboard or do we want to win how many passes completed. First 3 or 4 games we caught teams out by surprise with the 3-4-3 but now teams have switched on how to play against it we are losing key games because of it. Coaches need to wake up because our season is slowly slipping away game by game because i cant see Sydney dropping too many points till the end of the year and victory are starting to hit form at a very important time, compared to us who are coming out of form when we need to kick on to contest the top.

so how do we all feel about the formation on saturday.. i have to say i thought it worked pretty well until jakobsen went off. kilkenny surprised me in a more forward position and i thought muscat did as well as malik has managed in CB - until jakobsen left and took his line management with him. the line up was close to what i was banging on about in the match thread in the lead up. is this right?: franjic---------------------muscat----------------------------jakobsen-------------------colazo ------------------------------------------------malik Caceres------------------Brattan------------------------kilkenny-------------------brandan --------------------------------------------fornaroli the team seemed more balanced than they have in a long while. i rate malik as a CDM. the big question for me is who makes the pair in front? i would like to see caceres given a run with brattan.

Certainly better without Cahill there and without Rose in left back. It's a shame we don't have a competent left back though becasue Colazo playing in the number 10 role would work well.

Would Melbourne City supporters be happy or upset if: A brand new stadium for approx. 20K was built at Dandenong showgrounds and Melbourne City moved into it?
Full trophy cabinet (but yours looks a bit empty) ! Reigning BACK2BACK 442 A League and World Cup (Mens and Womens) Tipping Champion - so yeap, I do know best !

Caceres doesn't work out wide. agree malik in that spot changes our defence. caceres has been playing well. but i think its another compromise to just fit someone into the squad. this is what is killing city. they play too many out of position to get them into the squad. kilkenny and cahill have wore the brunt of that shitty decision making. kamau needed a break. he has lost form and needs to earn his space again. fitzgerald is hungry. i would play him on the right wing. i would also give caceres a start in midfield next to brattan - in front of malik.

next years squad. i suspect the new coach will have a lot of say in recruitment. i suspect we are going to get someone with a bit more clout than JVS or valkanus. my money is on mikel arteta. but... i would like to see the club sell fornaroli now and take the cash while they still can. also timmy will definitely be coming of the bench next year. soooo I would like us make a move on jamie maclaren or adam taggart as our first team striker. I really want to see more young aussies leading the line for us. our wings are good as is. we will need a big time attacking midfielder - this is where we should marquee it up. and a solid af central defender. if we recruit well in these 3 spots we will be very good next year.

Considering the season so far membership has now hit 13,013. Hopefully translates into more people at games. Will be interesting to see where it is with a season of sustained success.

That's not bad at all. I would think 20k over the next couple of year might be achievable. Success on the park is the key but City have been doing a lot off the park with the community which will also help with membership.

Yep certainly a lot of contribution in giving back to the community, a lot of which isn't reported and known about , that has helped greatly. Scott Munn was quoted saying the target was 14,000 which in all likeliness won't be achieved this season. But had we been more consistent I think we would have certainly got there by now and would have even been pushing 15k+.
