With about a third of the season over, we are in a stunning 5th position, only a point behind Leeds.
Table stands: Tottenham - 10w, 3d, 1L - 33p. Arse - 11w, 0d, 3L - 33p. City - 9w, 4d, 1L - 31p. Scum - 8w, 4d, 2L - 28p. FC United - 8w, 3d, 3L - 27p.
We started off the season with some glamour pre-season Friendlies against Red Star Belgrade, Feyenoord and Barcelona and Real Madrid. In the transfer market I brought in a 25yo Ukrainian centreback for 10 million, a real quality defender with over 45 caps for the country. A few other younger players were signed on potential ability, and a few of them have also made their way into the first team.
After a few middling performances, we shot out of the blocks with a 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa. We then beat Liverpool 2-0, United 3-1 in the League Cup 2nd round, Sheff, Stoke, Sunderland, Wigan, and United again, Liverpool in the League Cup 3rd round and Birmingham.
We were very unlucky in the 4th round, drawing against 1st placed Tottenham away, despite 4 injuries and a red card, we were finally beaten 7-6 on Penalties.
5th is where we stand, and with such a short season, if we can keep that run going for another few months, we could very well qualify for Europe. \:d/

Went back to my A-League only game over the weekend.
Would you believe that a consortium as taken over the Roar, and replaced me with Frank Farina (that's who the Victory employed when they sacked me a couple of seasons back) - so I applied for my old Victory job - what else was I going to do?
But it irks me that Farina inherits all my cash for a second time - and the Roar were going to invest in training facilities!
Why does no club want to hold on to me after all the glory I bring them????!!!!
Thankfully the Victory still has a bit of cash left form my days and Farina didn't piss it all up against the wall.

Just had the World Cup 2030 groups drawn. Scotland England South Korea Ivory Coast
Pretty tough group.
One interesting thing, is as you might know, the host for the cup in 2038 is decided at the end of the current competition.
"The proposal from Australia thought to be among the favourites".
The other 2 bids mentioned at South Africa and Brazil :/

Is there are a reason why the German NT is full of players who don't exist?
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Ballack is in the game. Unless you are the manager of Chelsea, he goes to Bayern. Later on he becomes a manager. I've seen Podolski, Lahm and Mertesacker.

SI don't have the license for the German National team, or the German leagues. Hence the fake players, and the teams in Germany having slightly different names. There's a way to fix that before you start, but I can't remember how to do it exactly, google is your friend.

from wikipedia: "Germany's national team is not allowed to be included in the game due to licensing rights being owned by EA Sports' "FIFA" series."

Basically, because the German national team is licenced exclusively to FIFA ](*,) Same with the Japanese team to PES. So what you have to do is delete the "fake.lnc" file, if you can find it, I dont' rememeber where it's located specifically though.

As I've said, it's back to the future with me, as I take over the reins of the Victory, after two very fruitful seasons at the Roar, that included the double, the ACL and the even the WCC, however it was the my other team, the Nix that won the double in the season just completed.
At first I wasn't happy about changing clubs again, and having Farina access the money that I had built up over the last two years, along with all the great young players I had brought to the club, but walking back into the changerooms at Punt Rd, seeing all the familiar faces, I felt at home - I knew this was really where I belonged.
It was a case of getting to know the squad again - and it was quite different to how I had left it exactly two years ago. Muscat, Arch, Danny Boy, Lopez, Kemp, and others, are long gone.
But there are a few that I remember well: Ward is now 28 and still decent, Berger is 25 or 26 and pretty much at his peak (he's still burning them off down the left and putting in killer crosses), and a couple of young players who I had brought to the club are still there.
There are some interesting names who Farina brought to the club who aren't too bad: Ontong, Song and NTS.
I gave Pace his marching orders - surely his career survived longer than even he would have expected?!
It was weird seeing my old game plan - it sort of came up automatically, and all the old names were still there - it brought a tear to my - so many good times, hopefully more to be had.
I have focused most of my recruitment on getting some gun 16 to 20 year olds to the club - hoping that this time I'll remain at the club for longer than three years!!
I've made two key mistakes, as we approach the pre-season cup: 1. I forgot that NZ players are treated as foreign (doesn't work in reverse at the Nix); and 2. I pretty much completely filled my roster and payroll budget with quality kids, only to discover that the board would allow me a transfer budget of $7.8 mill - that's some decent coin!! (as I said, luckily for me, Farina didn't piss all of my money up the against the wall the last two years)
I'm short one central defender. I actually made loan bids for both Beauchamp and Leijer, but there was no cigar.
I'd like to make a special mention of one player who goes way back to my very first days at the Victory, Foschini, a left wing-back. He was 16 then, doing really well in the youth league, and he's 21 now (I believe he's the son of former VFL player, Silvio).
For a long time he has listed me as his favourite personnel, so I feel I owe him.
The trouble is that he's absolutely useless!
I should re-phrase that, he appeared to have stacks of potential as a 16 year old, he played U19s NT, and carried a price tag of around $900,000 at one point.
But it looks like he hasn't played a game for two years, his polygon looks about half the size of what I remember it?
He's still only 21, can he resurrect his career under me?
I have my doubts, but he has two years left on his contract, so I'm going to give the kid a chance. I've put him on a special training program - if I see some movement over the next couple of months, I might be convinced - it's up to you kid!

Not getting game time at that level at taht age will do a lot of damage, but you can get back some standing I'd think. I never rated Matt Foschini personally.

I already admitted he's useless! (but the fact that he had this massive price tag against his name, has got me thinking that there might be improvement in him) - his price tag is still a staggering $300,000 - not too sure why!! I recall giving him some senior games when he was young (in the ACL and trial games), I thought he might become a good back up for Berger (because at the time I played with three at the back and wing-backs), and he did all right from what I can remember - but I never tried him in the A-League at all. Anyway - I just can't do the dirty on him - I just can't do it.... By the way - all this reminds me of another youth player I had, who had just about the tiniest polygon I've ever seen - and yet, for some strange reason, whenever I played him in trial games, he did all right, so I kept him as a back up for about a year past the age when he could play youth league. I'm not sure, but it's possible he was one of those grey no-names I signed up at a time when I didn't know what I was doing. Here is a question for everyone - is it possible for some players to display a lot, lot more than what their ratings would suggest? I have reason to believe that it might be (and of course we all know the reverse is true) - that just like potential, there's some other little secret rating that players have that we can't see (maybe call it competitiveness, or getting the most out what you have, etc) Edited by pippinu: 19/5/2009 04:10:22 PM

Just smashed Arsenal 5-1 in the League, with only 12 games to go it put's Arsenal well back, 7 points behind as well as a game behind Tottenham and City.
The win put us 9 points behind Arsenal, and 2 ahead of Portsmouth (who have a game in hand), and 5 ahead of Newcastle (with no game in hand).
Our 2nd last match is against Portsmouth at home. That match could very well decide a Champions League place.

Don't take this the wrong way, but for some one who has little idea of the inner workins of the game, you ask some fucking amazing questions. As you're aware there are potential and current ability levels as hidden attributes. There are also a couple of other numbers that you don't get to see. One of these is a "big game" rating, how well the player stands up in the crucial matches. So you can have a player with amazing stats taht plays like arse in important games or likewise, you can have a player that has garbage stats but plays amazing in bigger games.

Re Foschini - I was wrong - he's got a price tag of $625,000!!!! (with an absolutely tiny polygon - under technical, he has no rating above 10!! but has very good physical ratings)
Actually, there are two green pointers in his profile - it's probably the first time he has shown any improvement in years - maybe he's a (very) late bloomer?
Maybe there's a hidden rating for "late bloomers"?
No worries Foschini - everyone says I should ditch - but I'm gonna stick by you till the very end!!

I'm almost tempted to genie-scout him see what happens.

I'm almost tempted to genie-scout him see what happens. This is it - there's something unusual happening here. Even four years ago, with ok youth league form, Healey was telling me to offload him - yet he had a market value of $900,000, and four years on, virtually no game time, and it's down to $625,000!! which makes zero sense - and this is why I've wondered whether there's something going on here, i.e. whether he'll bloom all of a sudden. There was another left sided player in the youth team around the same time, Behich, his ratings were even worse, and yet I recall he had a price tag at the time in excess of $500,000. In fact, I don't even know how it is that Foschini has lasted so long! Someone must have renewed his contract. The funny thing is that he is still listed as a "hot prospect", and he is still marked as available for loan (which goes back to my time previously). The other funny thing is that in his personal page he still says: looking forward to getting senior experience by going out on loan!! - that's a very unusual thing for a 21 year old to be saying! (in the A-League) I laugh every time I see it!
