I've had enough issues in the past with work permit players that I'm not even giving myself the chance to sign players who don't get a WP, by not getting an international loan feeder. Sticking to requesting commercials.
Need a striker. Juventus stole the one I was wanting. I've got my 2 front line strikers, a couple of backups I'm going to sell, then a couple of young prospects who play in the 18's and reserves who could make an impact this season, so I really wanted 1 striker, better than 1 of the first choice players, to improve the squad.
Have 5 players who do well on the wings (1 dedicated AML, 1 AMRL with a decent left foot to play at AML, and the rest AMR's who I've trained up to AMRL), with a few of the wingbacks able to fill in if needed.
In the centre of midfield we have 3 high quality midfielders (2 young, 1 old), 4th choice is our defender/dm/mc utility player (who I'm really proud of, as I've brought him up from the youth system and has played 229 games for us).
The old guy is 30, so I've been looking for a replacement and may make a signing in this pre-season, as my youth prospects aren't really good in this area.
Central defence might need a pique/evans type signing, as I already have my vidic/rio combination with a crazy 27 year old Ukrainian and a 29 year old frenchie who scores as many goals as our strikers do. 3rd choice is the utility.
Wingback I've got sorted, have a top quality left and right winger, with a good young leftback prospect, with the 2nd right back spot taken up with an England squad member.
Got 2 good keepers (old though), a 3 high potential youngsters. Maybe I could sign a player nearer to 27 or so.

35 million on a keeper? Sure why not. 96k a week + 15k app and clean sheet bonus? Hell yeah. Also bought a striker for 18.5million.
Would like a DC now, but only 11.5 million after transferring some of the wage budget, so I'm not going to be able to stretch it to the god knows how much clubs want for their players.
Team is now 4 stars across the board on the Assistant team report, with a 5 star AML and MC.
Thanks to the chairmans "loan", I've still got 20 million the bank, without any of the CL or EPL Tv money (which is monthly now iirc).

Take the youth path, raid a team in Brazil or eastern europe for a young defender with stats 15+ in the key attributes.

I don't need a young defender with basic 15's, I need a world class one with 17's or better. Otherwise what's the point? I already have my 2 top class CBs, and a decent array of utility/backup defenders.
I have my target, I just need the cash to prise him away.
He's 23, plays for Portsmouth. Kevin Fletcher. English.
His current value is 11.25 million.
He has: 20 - Concentration. 19 - Agility, Jumping, Stamina, Strength, Tackling. 18 - Acceleration, Anticipation, Marking. 17 - Composure, Determination, Positioning, Balance. 16 - Heading, Bravery, Work Rate
He has no stat under 10 (his lowest are long shots, finishing, passing, finishing at a high for a CB 11), his the ability to be a left back as well (stats for corners, crossing, dribbling, flair, creativity are all 12-14ish), and his pace is a 14, which is not shabby at all.
I just need the 25 to 30 million it will take to buy him. It might not be this season, but it should be next.
I'm still being hampered by the fact the game considers me some random side insignificant compared to Arsenal, who finished 5th last season, or United, or Everton or any other "big" side.

January, aim to have the funds by then and if you don't do it you'll at least have heaps of dosh accrued and be ready to swoop when his value drops because he has a year less on his contract. Quote:I'm still being hampered by the fact the game considers me some random side insignificant compared to Arsenal, who finished 5th last season, or United, or Everton or any other "big" side. Here's a question for everyone: whenever the Board agrees to improve training facilities, or youth devlepment, or whatever the hell it is - is there some sort of record anywhere telling you that it's happened?
For instance, NEC agreed to my request to improve training facilities (or build a youth academy - I can't remember which). At the same time they agreed to extend the stadium - so a stack of coin just disappeared one day.
I know the stadium extension will take time, so that 's fair enough, but I'm unsure about the other thing they're meant to be doing - will they notify me when it's done? Will there be a permenanent record somewhere of it having happened? (just to stop me asking again in the future)
In my A-League game, with the Victory, I made a request to improve training facilities and the Board told me they have already agreed to the request.
Ok - fair enough - but is it there? how do I know if it's been done yet or not? (to stop me asking the same question of the Board - because over time, playing multiple games - it's easy to forget what the hell you asked about!)

If it's a stadium expansion, it should be shown on the Information -> Stadium/Facilities screen. Mine currently shows "Planned Expansion - Due to move into 47,563 capacity FC United Stadium on 23.6.2032" and I believe any seating expansion also shows there. Training and Youth facilities have no such information, you ask, it's approved, one day you might receive a "the planned facilities upgraded is being started, it will take a few months", or you might just get "The planned facilities upgraded to the youth/training facilities has been completed". If they have already agreed to the request, it means they are already "planning" it, and it will start at the end of the season, or they are already building it. ******** Quote:That does seem kind of odd. How on earth do you accrue bloody reputation if you haven't been able to do it in 20 odd years? I have got a good reputation now (continental) off the back of the FA Cup win and 2nd place in the league, but compared to the big big teams, even though they might suck and finish 5th or whatever, they have worldwide or very high continental rep. Basically I'll need to start winning more titles and finishing high consistently. I'm hoping to have enough cash to give it a shot in the January transfer window, if I can sell a couple of english players with a 10 million for 1 game transfer clause (I've already done one), I might have 25 million to splash.

Is it possible to change training for a national team? I just qualified Australia to the final stage of Asian qualifiers for WC and about 6 players or reasonable or high importance have gotten injured! Most of them have been in training and a couple in games...shitting me atm. It happened in the asian cup as well.

LOL I signed this new right and centre back who i discovered when i was with Leicester and he's matured into a fine defender. So this other right back in my team goes "I won't be giving up my place in the first team easily" and the funny part is that he'd been out for about 6 months with a broken leg and barely ever plays in the first team. He's shit. I told him to stop complaining and focus on performing well and he doesn't like my "Lack of understanding" so he requests a transfer. Lol dumb shit have the transfer i don't want you.

I'm in the process of replacing my hard disk. I imagine this will probably mean I have to reload FM and start again (although I might be lucky and be able to save my game files).
Given the invasive aspects of Steam - does anyone know whether there's anything I should be watching out for? or is it simply a matter of just re-loading everything?

There is a steam backup you can use to burn all your steam stuff to disc, if you have a DVD burner and blanks.

Just move them back to the same folder that they were in, once you've reinstalled it all. Just picked up this kid for Q.P.R. payed 6.5m for him, which might be a bit high, but I reckon he'll be worth it in a year or two. Would almost consider him worth that value now tbh. Thoughts?

Quote:Or to an external hard drive? Do I then just transfer them back the directory that holds the game data? Steam should be able to do the whole lot for you, it'll back itself up to the external HDD along with the files and you can unpack it later. This probably isn't the place to be asking though, try the SI forums. Fuck I hate steam though, and they're using it for lots of games now  Quote:That should work. I've done that. Or you could install the whole lot to an external HDD and run it off there to free up more of your PC's HDD space for access memory. Funky - That player is quality for 6.5mil. I'd say he's worth more than that already. If he improves mentally you've got a gem on your hands.

Yeh - nice polygon test!
I hate steam too - if FM wasn't such a good game - I would have pissed both off a long time ago!!
By the way - is backing up via steam just a case of going through the Steam icon on the desktop?

Probably the best thing to do would be to take a look at the 'help' in the Steam tools tbh.

I'm still amazed I got a WP for him. Didn't get it the first time, but got it on appeal.

naah - that doesn't sound right - you're not paying enough attention - the polygon tells you stacks (from just a quick glance) - in half a sec, I'll know whether it's worth my while looking more closely at a player or not. Both the shape and size reveal a fair bit. For starters, I'll immediately know whether someone's fast or slow, good in the air, etc - in a split second. I agree with you that you can't rely on it entirely - you need to double check specific ratings for specific positions to be sure. But for quick info - the polygon reveals plenty - I can pretty much tell someone's position just by looking at the shape, and obviously, if it's big and fat, chances are you're looking at someone pretty decent - if it's small - they're not much chop! heh, heh - that's funny!!
I'm pretty sure that happened to me once in a friendly when I was playing a young keeper - I got rid of him soon after that!!
The other thing that happens often, is the keeper comes out, has the ball at his feet, and just stands there until the opposition take it off him and drill the empty net.
Thankfully it normally happens for the other team, but it's happened to me a couple of times.

I've had that "walk out of area with ball" thing, I played in 3d, so it just looks he grabs the ball, and the little circle moves forward, and gives away the foul.
I only got a yellow though.
